what i’ve learned in my life is if someone is treating you poorly and youre asking yourself “what magic words can I use to make this person treat me with basic respect,” those words don’t exist and they never will.

doing research in the field of humanities is interesting because there isn’t necessary this paradigm of the most recently published studies are by definition the best that you get in the hard sciences, like sometimes that book published in 1909 really continues to be the best foundational text about 1590s amsterdam, but then again sometimes i’m reading a text published in the 60s and it starts describing italian culture as “oriental” with no further discussion and i’m like hmmm maybe i should find something a little more current

genuinely so frustrating when youtubers swear or say something like "kill" or "suicide" out loud uncensored, but the subtitles censor it. like why the fuck, if YouTube is gonna get your ass for writing "kill myself", literally who wouldn't it get you for Saying It??? all it does is make me feel babied as someone who has sensory processing issues, and I can't imagine how much worse I would feel if I was completely deaf. why do hearing people get the uncensored version but we get the toddlerified end??? how is that fair?

after I wrote this post I lost hearing in one ear for a while and it only made this feeling worse.

Pro tip: when you see a brand new slang term, your first question should be how that term has been used in AAVE for the past 20-30 years.

the thing about being bullied for being weird as a kid is that even if you've always embraced being weird your brain is still always looking for the line where it's too much. you can be as proudly and intentionally weird as you want and you can love being weird but your mind is still convinced there's a point where you get too weird and people start treating you like a weird looking bug again. also it feels like you reach that point 500 times a day even if everyone you've spoken to today found you pleasant and likable and even if you're completely alone in your house with nobody looking at you at all.

at the start of every month everyone reblogs some insane poetry that’s like “august has arrived and again I swallow my bones in the burning sun” and every time I’m like damn that makes no sense. but kind of true.

Chain lightning is the best wizard spell because you hit one person with a lightning bolt and then OTHER PEOPLE also get hit by a lightning bolt. Literally no downsides to casting it in every situation possible.
