“I don’t need you throwing off my game.”

What if Jemma doesn’t even remember she has a daughter?

That’s something that has always bothered me about the reason for their split. If the enemy captures her and scans her brain then they’ll know about her daughter and Fitz’s location anyway. It just seems like it would be safer to have Fitz on the ship with her and way more efficient.

People have been speculating that the device in her neck suppresses her memories of Fitz’s location but I think it also suppresses memories of her daughter’s existence.

I mean, the nickname Deke has for Fitz is closely tied to Jemma’s child, even though it’s in the future. It seems weird how that memory specifically is gone.

Even if Jemma doesn’t know where Fitz is right now, even without the device, she would obviously know she has a daughter. If the enemy scanned her and found no information on Fitz’s location, they would still have the information that she has a daughter.

That’s something that Jemma would do anything to conceal, even if it means suppressing her memories of her daughter’s existence, and the fear she mentioned was some of those memories unconsciously coming to the surface.

I think Enoch is keeping those memories buried deep down through the device in her neck but perhaps that EMP disrupted it and now instead of just burying the memories she wants gone it’s also impacting her short term memory in the present. Jemma clearly isn’t even aware that the device is present, which would make sense if she was trying to hide the existence of her daughter even from herself. If she knew it was there, but didn’t know WHY it was there, then she would probably remove it.

And like say the ‘significant amount of time’ has been a couple years, so the child is maybe like… 3 or 4? She’s hanging out with Fitz wherever Fitz is and naturally she’s hearing all sorts of stories about her family. 

About her Aunt Daisy and Uncle Mack and Aunt Yo-Yo and Uncle Enoch (cos Enoch gets uncle statues he deserves it) and Aunt May and Uncle Coulson and… (nephew? son? does uncle even make sense?) and Deke… Deke’s there too. 

And he’ll tell her these stories while she’s going to sleep and bring her into the lab and show her around (she has her own little station where she’s allowed to mess around) and be like “what time do you think they’re in now?” and she’ll laugh and say “all the times!” and Fitz’ll grin and scoop her up and say “I don’t know if it works like that, little Monkey,” and then he’ll dive into an in depth explanation of time travel that flies over her head but it’s her daddy and she loves hearing him talk. 

And he’ll perch her on his shoulders and walk around the lab and get into big, technical spiels that aren’t quiet right because no one is here to finish his sentences and he misses Jemma so much, but at least he has their daughter as a piece of her. 

(and sometimes at night he wonders why he was left with this precious gift to look after and he doesn’t feel like he’s worthy because his father wasn’t a good role model so how can he be a good father and sometimes, in the darkness of night when he’s the most alone he remembers what he’s capable of and he wonders how much of that Leopold Fitz is still in him, how much of the Doctor is still in him and if he’s really worthy of looking after this beautiful child.)
