I know this is a cover blog and our big thing here is the desire font, but the trend of a () of () and () for book titles is. Really getting to me. Especially when paired with the desire font (see a Song of Wraiths and Ruin). And it's all the same words too! It's like you said--these titles don't say ANYTHING about the book. They're just ya buzzwords in the ya formula. Ahhhhh.
"Our big thing here is the desire fontâ love that this is my legacy. But yeah lol people have been making fun of that trend since like 2015 and yet weâre still using it, itâs had SURPRISINGLY long legs. I donât begrudge WRAITHS the formula because black people get to do the harmless dumb shit that white people have been doing in this industry for years as much as they want, but. My very fruitful google search confirms that itâs a running joke at this point.Â
I did one of these and got âThe Air of Dirt and Furâ which...... sounds like my apartment
Thereâs a branch of the Medicis that moved to Ireland and now are running a successful chain of fried chicken restaurants which is a very different vinbe from when they were like buying popes and stuff
The current heir to the main branch of the Hapsburg family is an endurance race car driver
#if he got rid of some middle names i bet he would be more aerodynamic and better at racing via @/honeyseller
Correction: it's not the Medicis who run the Dublin fried chicken shops, but the direct decendants of the enemies of the Medici; the Borgias. The chain is called Borza and is better known for fish and chips. They moved to Ireland in the early 20th century. They are also said to have introduced the deep fried Mars bar from Scotland to Ireland.
The Borgias, among the most feared and reviled families in European history, running a fish 'n chips shop with deep fried Mars bars is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. It's like something from a D&D campaign where they decided to completely change genres.
Had to look it up and apparently not only is it true, there's an entire subgenre of ancient Italian families with storied histories now competing to get in on the lucrative Irish fish frying market.

Disney making another "ikemen animefied Disney characters" game because Twisted Wonderland is not enough đđđ I'm guessing that based on the groups that this is gonna be one of those music/idol group-themed type game like HypMic or Idolish7?
Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Chip 'n Dale
Mike, Sulley, Roz (Monsters Inc.)
There's a Beauty and the Beast themed one that's just been announced, but only 2 out of 4 has been shown.
That's Belle and Beast đđđ I guess the other two will gonna be Cogsworth and Lumiere. I mean, I hope so, like... they aren't going to put a Gaston in there or anything, right? They already have him in Twst.
I'm also assuming this guy in the main promo art is Cinderella in honour of the Cinderella Castle that Disney use as they main logo thing.
Someone said the main character(?) from the movie Eight Immortals is like "Jack Sparrow but make him Chinese". From how he acts in the trailer, I can't say they're wrong đđđ

I don't understand why Nobuyuki's Genzaburou's name is listed as his "childhood name". The name sounds similar to Yukimura's Genjirou, which is commonly agreed to be his "alias name". Nobuyuki's one should logically be the "alias name" as well and we just never knew what his childhood name was.
Like, in a lot of other cases -rou names are often the alias name anyway. Kojuurou, Keijirou, Saburou (Nobubu), Kankurou (Nobuspawn), Jirousaburou (Yasu), etc.
There is a good reason why people often confuse samurai childhood names with the "middle name/alias names". It's because when someone doesn't have that middle/alias name, they use their childhood name in its place. It's only when we do know the childhood name that we can tell that this other name is actually the alias.
For example, as far as we know Mitsunari's childhood name is Sakichi. Until he was granted his formal titles, in letters and such his name would be listed as "Ishida Sakichi" because you aren't supposed to use the formal name casually like this.
Still, you know? Why did people even assume X name must be the childhood name to begin with? If you don't know for sure, just don't label it as anything, because a lot of the times we don't have definitive records of the actual birth/childhood names of people.
Like, for the longest time people thought Nobubu's son Oda Nobutaka's childhood name was "Sanshichi" because that's what he was referred to as in letters and records. Then a while ago some people did some research and found some sort of source that said his actual childhood name was "Kanpachi" ĺĺ Ť. In that line of thought, it would mean that "Sanshichi" is apparently just short for "Sanshichirou". It's kind of like how Maeda Keiji is how the name is famously known as, but supposedly the full name is Keijirou. The -rou is just often dropped for whatever reason.

So is the new route slbp said they were releasing this year just yet *another* nobunaga story? What a letdown.
Ah, it must be the Gaiden routes. We get to actually see what happened with his brother who died pre-Main Route.
I don't know why they didn't do the Ninja sequels. I wonder if the ninjas are not popular enough :/

Why is the manga character art always less attractive than the novel version.
Again, it's not because the novel art is more "detailed", the manga art here is super detailed too, and the character design they went with in the manga is not bad per se. I just prefer the original novel art more đ

I've been playing this game called Merge Teahouse and it's actually super fun. I got caught by one of those Youtube ads, but this game is surprisingly great.
The story element is genuinely engaging, and the artwork is gorgeous. The plot is a bit cliche, but I mean, I'm used to this kind of cliche rebirth plot from my stint of binge reading Chinese novels so I'm okay with it.
There's also some romance elements, which concerns me because this is a linear plot and not like otome game where you can choose which man you want to date. Maybe it'd be like Tears of Themis where the "main storyline" seems to have equal interaction between MC and the guys, and the romance are placed in a separate section.
ALSO. My favourite guy happens to be a secret prince... again. Like what the heck LMAO.
Writing Resources to use instead of AI
For coming up with character names:
Behind the name (my absolute fav)
Allows you to choose the origin of where you want the name to be from, whether you want a more feminine vs masculine vs androgenous name (as voted by users), random surname generator, and clicking on the name gives you important info like if there are any famous people with the same name, where itâs from, how common it is, and how people tend to see it, etc.
You can also search their name database by letter or meaning or origin, so if you know you want a character who has a name/surname that starts with an A from Ireland, thereâs a whole list for you to choose from.
Census sites
Especially useful if youâre looking for a name from a specific place and/or time period. Just search â(country) census (year)â and youâll find a database of real people who lived in that place at that time. No one can ever call your names unrealistic again.
For coming up with place names:
Fantasy name generator
This site can basically come up with any name for any person, place, or thing you might ever need. There are also specific generators for different fandoms if youâre looking to make an OC in an established world.
For finding that one word on the tip of your tongue:
One Look Thesaurus
This is my go-to. Not only can you find synonyms like a regular thesaurus, but you can also describe words like âunhappy smileâ or âquiet laughâ to find the more specific word youâre looking for.
For coming up with ideas:
Word cloud
When I need to inspire a new idea, I write down all the things Iâm interested in (hauntings, academia, lesbians, etc.) and put them into a word cloud to shuffle them next to each other. Sometimes seeing a concept in a new context can spark new ideas!
WWF Discord
This is my discord channel (shameless plug) for when you need to brainstorm off other people but donât have anyone irl to talk to. Weâre also happy to read and give feedback on writing, answer writing questions, or just chat!
For visualizing places and characters:
Pinterest can at times be a bit too sterile for my tastes, but if you use the right words, you can find more realistic photos of places. For example, adding âaestheticâ after basically any word will bring up a more broad collection of photos to help you flesh out places.
This is also a great way to find photos of people and fashion to help visualize characters. Iâm bad at describing clothes, so I usually collect photos of outfits to help me know what my characters are wearing. Searching up âcharacter inspirationâ will collect more interesting photos and drawings of people who might not exactly be of our world.
(However, to make Pinterest not show you AI results, you have to go into your settings and check the âreduce AIâ box. Luckily, it does mostly work.)
Death to Stock
Like pinterest but completely AI free (hooray!) Only drawback is that you have to pay a monthly subscription (about $20 CAD).
Cosmos
Very similar to pinterest but slightly more "artsy". I'm not super familiar with this one but I believe all the photos are human and you can save them and create collections with a free account.
Dupe Photos
Royalty-free stock image site with very Pinterest-core photos!
Minecraft
If you havenât built your entire fictional city in Minecraft instead of writing, why not? Itâs fun.
The Sims
This one is dual purpose because you can not only create your characters in Create a Sim, but you can design their houses. If you really want to go for it, you can bulldoze all the lots in your town and build your world from scratch.
For checking grammar:
Grammar Girl
Easy to follow definitions and examples, and if you learn better by listening, every article comes with a podcast to follow along with instead.
Grammar Monster
This one is my favourite for checking grammar rules because thereâs tons of examples in graphics that helps for any situation.
Reedsy
Among other things, reedsy can connect you to professional editors within your budget.
For writing advice:
One Stop for Writers
This one was recommended from my discord channel and has all sorts of tutorials and resources for the writing craft.
My Blog Directory
Another shameless plug, but if you need writing advice on something specific, you can search through my directory to see if itâs there. If it isnât, you can always send me an ask about it!
For an alternative to Google Docs:
Ellipsus
Think google docs but without AI. Yay!
(will update this list with any more suggestions or resources I discover đ)
A great resource

Too lazy to manually translate so this is just Google Translated Wikipedia entry.
One of the things that annoyed me about "pop historians" online is how SO many people were saying "there's no way that Hideyoshi was the commander of the Kanegasaki Retreat because his status is low".
No, just because he doesn't have that fancy Whatever-no-Kami titles, doesn't mean that his status within the Oda family vassal rankings is low. The actual paperwork proving Hideyoshi's status pre-Kyoto was just rather hard to find, and you can't make assumptions when there's lack of evidence.
People should already know about Hide being chosen to be one of the Kyoto admins alongside Niwa Nagahide by now, right? (teaming up with Akechu, yay!!) It was featured in Sengoku Musou, come on, that means it can't be that hard to look up. Someone's bound to have made a detailed post about it by now.
Anyway, Kyoto is a very big deal, so being allowed to be in charge in Kyoto affairs should mean you're very important. Nobu isn't going to assign some low ranking nobody bum to be his representative to manage Kyoto.
I'm sure people won't argue against Nagahide being a high ranking vassal, so if Hide is more or less equal to him, then that's a fairly high status. So as per Kanegasaki, which is after Kyoto, Hideyoshi should have been someone up there equal to more senior vassals.
It's baffling that Japanese people are the ones spewing stuff about "low status low status" because even I from outside Japan can find texts at the very least shows possible proof of Hideyoshi's high status, even if it's not 100% confirmation. Why do you not know about them? Why aren't you trying to look for it properly? It just sounds like these people read a Famous Person say it and then just parroted the opinion.
I would be so mad if it's Watanabe Daimon, he sounds like he actually hates Hideyoshi, so his opinion is super biased and I hate him. I'm okay with negative opinions about any Sengoku figure I like as long as it's fair, and this dude doesn't sound fair. He sounds like he's gleefully taking any opportunity to talk bad on Hideyoshi and any positive concessions he makes sounds like he's making it under duress.
I kind of don't like the actors' faces and the summaries sound bleh, so I'm not as excited about it. Which is a shame, because I honestly like Hideyoshi more than Nobubu, but Hideyoshi in fiction is always mistreated and portrayed in such a bleh way these days.
I guess people are starting to feel iffy about what he did in the Korea wars and his policies can seem a bit cruel sometimes, but you can still depict it in an interesting way. And yet it's not being done. Like, I'm not Japanese so if my ideas goes against Japanese people's sensibilities or interest then I can't argue with it even if I don't like it. But if it's like this because of Corporate Laziness then I'm annoyed.
Anyway, while I really don't like a lot of the plot direction, there are some scenes that I'm interested in, so I might someday try to actually at least find the relevant episodes and watch. I want to know what that "Tokugawa secret formula medicine" scene was all about LOL. Like why is Hideyoshi fanboying over Yasu? Or was that just the samurai team exaggerating and the scene does not actually say that?

I need to catch up on the summaries of the Hide brothers drama because according to the samurai Bushotai team, in the drama Hide actually was a big fan of Yasu. There was a situation where he got "secret family medicine" from Yasu or something. It was a lie, and it was just normal medicine, but in the show they phrased it like that and it's just LOL why.
This is the funniest thing because Yasu and Hide being close or friends or whatever is an idea that I thought of, and it's like "Why did nobody do this before?" People always likes to make rivals/enemies have a history of being friends so that when they end up fighting it's Super Sad (TM). And I guess finally this Taiga drama might me using that angle just a bit LMAO.
Now please, someone do it with Akechu too. The Hide-Hide duo being friends or whatever and then everything being Super Sad in Yamazaki was my longest pet trope, but nobody wants to do it because everyone's focused on making it all about Nobu and how Honnouji Was Sad.
PSA: Credit Card Phone Scam
(Or, how Tumblr just saved my ass)
I saw a PSA recently about a scam going around with spoofed official numbers calling and asking for information, and how you should hang up and call back using the correct number rather than just go along with what the caller is telling you. But this is Tumblr, so I'll never be able to find the post again.
I decided to make my own, because this literally just happened to me an hour ago. Hopefully my story can spread some more awareness and save other asses the way mine was saved.
Around 7:30pm tonight (Friday), I got a phone call from a 1-800 number. I almost didn't answer it, then I saw it was 1-800-465-4___, and I recognized that as the start of the CIBC phone number, so I picked up.
Me: Hello?
Guy: Hi, is this [MrsD]?"
Me: Yes.
Guy: Hi, [MrsD], this is _____ from CIBC, how are you tonight?
I thought, okay, this is a sales call. Right before I'm about to sit down for dinner. Typical. Mentally, I'm already putting together an exit strategy, preparing to say no to everything and get off the phone ASAP. But thenâ
Guy: We've just flagged suspicious activity on your CIBC Visa card. It was an online BestBuy transaction for $980.00. Was that your transaction?
Me, flustered: Uh. What? Sorry, how much?
Guy: $980.00 at BestBuy, was that you?
Me: Oh. At BestBuy?
Guy: Yes, your card was used at a BestBuy in [town nearby]. Was that you? Did you go to [town nearby] today? You don't live in [town nearby], right?
Me: Uh. No?
Guy: Okay, so I need some information to verify this transaction.
By this point, my brain had caught on that something about this was hinky. First of all, I thought he said it was an online purchase, then he said it was in person. But maybe I'd misheard, he was talking fast. My second thought was that every other time there was a suspicious transaction, I got an automated phone call and a text message with instructions to call back. I've never had a person call me directly.
My third thought was, well, the phone number on the caller ID was right....
THEN! I remembered a Tumblr post I saw recently, and I remembered what it told me to do.
Me: I'm skeptical about this call. I'm going to call CIBC myself and look into this.
Guy: What? Ma'am, you can just tell me, I can verifyâ
Me: No. Thank you, but I'll call the number on the back of my card.
Guy, getting more agitated: Ma'am, if you look at the number on your card, you'll see it's the same number.
Me: You know that can spoofed, right?
Guy: Uhâ but ma'amâ
Me: Sorry, but I need to make sure. I'm going to call CIBC directly.
The guy kept sputtering, but I hung up on him. In that moment, I really didn't think that he was a scammer. In fact, I thought I was being paranoid and was maybe kinda rude to the guy. I wondered if I was being overcautious, and I felt a bit guilty.
I called the number on the back of my credit card, waited 15 minutes for an agent, and told him what just happened.
IMMEDIATELYâ
Agent: You didn't tell him anything, did you?
Me: No. I said I wasn't in [town nearby] today, but that's it.
Agent: Good. You did the right thing by calling us, let me look into the transaction for you.
Then, a minute later:
Agent: I'm not seeing any transaction like that. There's no flags on your card, nothing suspicious at all.
Me: So it was a scam?
Agent: Yep. Entirely fake.
I was honestly surprised. I really thought that there was some kind of mix-up and that I would be apologizing to this guy for being rude to his colleague.
Looking back on it now, I can see all the telltale signs of it being a scam call:
Time of day. Early evening on a Friday, chances are people are either sitting down for dinner or in a hurry to get somewhere. In this situation, a lot people probably wouldn't think twice about giving "the bank" some information just to get off the phone. (Joke's on them, I have no life!) But the way that I reacted to his introduction did evoke the desired reaction of Ugh, what now? Leave me alone! that the scammer was banking on (pun intended).
Sense of urgency. The scammer spoke fast, threw details at me quickly, and made sure I knew that I had to give him my information right away. This honestly threw me off. It was overwhelming, and I felt concerned and a bit frantic for a few seconds until I thought about what I know about scams and what I'd just read in that Tumblr PSA.
Complete lack of empathy or understanding about my skepticism/anti-fraud precautions. The last time I had to get a new credit card number due to fraud, the agent I spoke to said things like "I know this is frustrating", "I'm sorry this is a hassle", etc. And of course the CIBC agent I spoke to tonight was immediately grateful that I'd called them directly and reassured me that CIBC would never ask for information. By contrast, the scammer was outright dismissive of my concerns and got agitated when I wouldn't just trust him right off the bat.
Emotional provocation. Similar to #2 & #3 above, the scammer was very good at making me feel things. Worried and fearful at first, then guilty about being suspicious, to the point where I actually apologized to the guy. (Granted, I am Canadian, but still!)
And finally, I cannot stress enough: the spoofed phone number. I am a pretty well-informed person. I keep up with news about scams and whatnot. I know that phone numbers can be spoofed. I've been in front of my phone when it just starts to ring and I can see the auto-dialler number appear briefly before it gets replaced with a number that has my area code. But tonightâearly evening on a FridayâI was cooking dinner and my phone was across the room. It had rung several times by the time I got to it. I only picked it up because I recognized the CIBC number. And when the scammer started his spiel, the fact that the number was the same was enough for me to give him just a tiny moment of trust. Had he actually gotten past that first barrier and started requesting my information, I think I would have caught on, because people asking for sensitive information over the phone is a huge obvious red flag. I like to think I would have caught on, anyway. But maybe not! That fake number almost had me.
TL;DR: No matter what the number on your caller ID saysâthat it's your bank, your energy company, your internet provider, whatever!âif the person on the other end is requesting sensitive information urgently, don't panic. Stop. Think. Then tell them nothing, hang up the phone, and call your service provider yourself using a verified phone number.
