vegans who refuse to even eat backyard eggs….why

people who think its unethical to eat chicken eggs are like people who think bees should keep all their honey. they literally produce more than they need and your unwillingness to even buy local means you are doing nothing to help them, support your small farmers you heathens

I raise chickens and take very good care of them, they’re free range and have roam of the 3 acre backyard. One hen lays up to 2-3 eggs a week and it’s a waste to leave the eggs outside because we have no rooster. If I were to leave the eggs they would go rotten and affect the health of the chickens and make the coop smell bad, the chickens dont mind me taking the eggs because it becomes too cluttered if I dont.

Even with a rooster, by the time out hens get all broody and sit on their nests, they’ve amassed way too many eggs for them to actually incubate properly. They sometimes have upwards of 50 eggs under them, most of which have gone rotten already. And then only like three hatch. We remove their eggs and when they’re ready, we give them enough to incubate based on their size. We’ve had massive success like this. Most of the eggs hatch, so less is wasted and we have waaayyy more chicks

Also people, please realise that if you want farming practices to change, you need to vote with your money! If more people buy animal products produced a certain way, that demonstrates a preference, and that pushes the industry towards that type of farming. If you opt out entirely, you don’t get a vote anymore!
