My monkey gamer brain looked at this and thought of what could easily be done in GTA or any game where you can kill people. Augh. I’m probably shooting myself for going to college for business (paying out of my own pocket), but I see this as a good thing as I want to start my own business someday. This is something I’ll have to deal with, so I see this as a helpful exercise at best for anyone else who wants to go that route.

my problem with the comic is that i don't really care if the author is gay or not, it fetishizes gay relationships. none of the characters even have names. they're all just walking tropes. on top of that it's just plain bad writing, there's no conflict whatsoever, so it doesn't make for a good story

The author is a gay dude. You literally cannot fetishize yourself ffs. You can think they’re cardboard cutout or stereotypes or shallow or whatever, but writing a story about gay characters that you think is shallow isn’t “fetishization” it’s just bad writing. To “fetishize” means to objectify— to treat someone or something as a sexual object. It doesn’t mean a gay man writing a cutesy conflictless romcom. And to continually accuse gay media of “fetishization” no matter how non-sexual, how created within a humanizing milieu by queer authors is to say that no gay media should exist because it will never be untouched by the IDEA of someone jerking off to it.

Fictional characters are already imaginary inanimate objects. If someone treats another person badly because of what they saw in a work of fiction, that’s on the individual at the end of the day. Not the author. “Fetishize”, “romanticize” and words like that are mud now because so many people have used them in place of “I don’t like it” in order to sound righteous and important these days. And, dare I say it, maybe someone’s “representation” is someone else’s nightmare.

Isn’t found family very commonly almost entirely overlapped with having friends? Speaking personally, I feel a far more familial attachment to my friends, even ones I’ve only had a short time, than I do my blood relatives.

That’s what I thought the concept of found family was. “Blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb” kinda thing, unless I’m doing the saying wrong. You’ve gone from acquaintance to a friendship with low investment, and maybe work your way up to “ride or die” high investment. ...Investment sounds transactional, but I mean this in the sense of regular bumps and valleys in general dealings--between the arguments and the hugs, stuff like that. Forgive me for sounding weird about it, as I’ll admit, I haven’t had the chance to experience that until my later years in life. Friendships and rapport--well, relationships, romantic, platonic, business even--take time and have their ups and downs. I do enjoy the “oh no this is a cult” aspect in stories, though. Makes for some good tragedy and horror sometimes. But that’s a different point, I suppose.

Yeah, and even then, kids would find a way around it. I remember using AOL as a kid back in the dial-tone days; parental controls were a thing, and I think I remember at one point using a kid account had a key logger to track what kids say. But the parental controls were so finicky and that it blocked Dr. Martin Luther King’s speeches and his letter when I had an assignment to do once. Parents could make exceptions to this, though, so it wasn’t too much of a problem. But I’d only connect to the internet through AOL and get around that by using Internet Exploder/Explorer and Nutscrape/Netscape to play some Lenny Loosejocks and JoeCartoon games. Either way, her parents are still responsible for that.
