From the Nashville Zooās fb page! Hereās the petition, please please please take a moment to add your name (even if youāre not from Nashville!). If you are from Tennessee, contact your representatives and make it clear that the people do not want this data center. This is an AZA accredited zoo which is home to several species of critically endangered animals, we NEED to protect it. Make your voice heard!
Because people will pay attention to cute animals, here are some of the critically endangered/endangered species housed at the Nashville Zoo!
The Amur Leopard and Clouded Leopard (which recently celebrated its 50th cub born at the zoo!)
The Sumatran Tiger
The Red Ruffed Lemur and Ring-Tailed Lemur
The Cotton-Top Tamarin and White-Cheeked Gibbon
The Colobus Monkey and De Brazzaās Monkey
And the Mexican Spider Monkey!
Look at them!!!! Look at them and fight like hell to save them!!!!
"Friends outside of Minnesota please read. I'm sharing a post written by a personal friend and medical doctor: Friends outside MN, you need to know what is happening here. Everyone knows that ICE shot and killed a woman here on Wednesday. But thatās not the only thing thatās going on:
ICE agents are cruising areas with immigrant-owned businesses, and kidnapping patrons and employees alike. Yesterday they abducted two US citizen employees at a suburban Target, one who was begging them to allow him to go get his passport to show them.
ICE is going door to door in immigrant-heavy neighborhoods, asking residents where their immigrant neighbors live. Read that again. If it sounds like something out of your high school history textbook, thatās because it is.
ICE is targeting schools and school buses. They pepper sprayed teenagers and abducted two school staff members at the high school up the street from me on Wednesday. Police are literally escorting school buses to ensure children can get to school and home safely. The Minneapolis Public Schools have moved to virtual learning for the next 4 weeks because itās unsafe for children or teachers to physically come to school.
They are targeting hospitals and clinics. Patients are scared and are cancelling their appointments or just not showing up. Kids are missing their checkups and vaccines, folks arenāt getting their cancer care, etc.
They are smashing windows in cars and homes.
ICE is increasingly picking up Native Americansāagain, targeting folks based on skin color alone.
They are arresting and beating legal observers. A friend of a friend had her arm broken yesterday. Folks are showing up at local hospitals, brought in in ICE custody, with severe injuries that are absolutely inconsistent with mechanism of injury reported by ICE. (Think: patient appears to have been beaten unconscious, while ICE agent says he slipped and fell.) I canāt emphasize enough that these ICE agents do not have warrants. There are 2,000+ agents here and they are simply hunting for anyone thatās not white. It doesnāt matter if youāre a citizen or a green card holder, they will kidnap you first and ask questions later. But the community is fighting back.
Protests are happening every day.
Community groups have been leading know-your-rights sessions for months, often to packed venues.
Whistles are being distributed by the thousands, carried on keychains and worn on coat zippers, always at the ready to be blown in warning if ICE is spotted.
Drivers are following ICE vehicles, blaring their horns in warning.
Businesses are locking their doors even while open to keep employees and customers safe. As I type this, Iām standing guard at the locked door of our neighborhood burrito joint while I wait for my takeout order, so the employees can focus on their jobs. The place is packed with neighbors supporting this small business.
Anti-ICE signs are posted everywhere. The community is making it crystal clear that ICE is not welcome here.
Parents and neighbors are standing guard outside schools, organizing carpools, and escorting kids to and from school on foot.
Parents of kids in Spanish-immersion daycare (there are a LOT of these daycares here!) are keeping their kids home so the teachers donāt have to take the risk of coming to work.
Churches and community groups are holding fundraisers to buy and deliver groceries to families who donāt feel safe leaving home.
Mutual aid money is going out to folks who canāt make rent because they canāt work or because a breadwinner was abducted, or who need a warm place to stay after their homeās windows were smashed. THAT is what is happening here. This fight is ongoing and itās horrifying to watch. But we are not backing down. To my friends in other cities and states, donāt think for a minute that this wonāt happen in your town. It will. Be ready. Learn from us, as we have learned from Portland and Chicago and New York. Fight back. Donāt let us get to the last line of Martin Niemollerās poem.ā -Grant Boulanger

wizard college is going to kill me I swear to god. I just saw someone without a component satchel reach into their pocket and pull out a handful of LOOSE tapioca to use as a substitute for blood in their fell ritual. and it worked. I've never been so fucking mad.
experiencing microaggressions apparently
Told some kids that they needed to handle their problem like adults and they thought I meant fight physically. No idiots talk about your feelings. Hm itās occurring to me that adults actually are also really bad at that.
You need to handle your feelings like adults fictional characters from the regency era
Wrong. Mr.Darcy fled the scene every time he experienced an emotion for MONTHS.
My workplace has come a long way when it comes to trans and queer issues on the job. I'm really grateful that it's standard to have a Chosen Name that's used on work documents and that once when someone changed my pronouns from They to She in an article about me, they called a whole meeting to educate folks on why not to do that.
But I am tired of getting invited to all these Women Only baby showers.
For a million reasons I need us to divorce the concepts of womanhood and pregnancy. It's vital to women's rights and trans rights. I have spent years hounded by assumptions about my body and questions from family about When Will I Have Babies. This is one of the primary reasons I don't identify with Womanhood. Pregnancy and motherhood are not fundamental to every female person's life and identity. It is so blatantly sexist to make childbirth and childrearing the exclusive purview of women.
While I was writing this post in line at the grocery store a young dad rolled by with his toddler in a shopping cart, and she was screaming and crying about wanting to buy one of the decorative balloons in the bakery. And he was gently consoling her, "yes I know sweetie it makes me sad too that we can't get a balloon." I told him he was being very patient and he laughed and said "you gotta be!" Give dads some credit and expectations!!!!

A naked eye 3D pterosaur installation at Shanghai Natural History Museum
(The guide is describing the exhibit and talking about the various "flying dinosaurs" and their appearance through history as they emerge from the fossil displays)
This is so cool. I've been to a LOT of natural history museums and have never seen anything so creative and also what a terrific way to demonstrate a possible mode of and reason for flight evolution.
The Ship of Theseus is a story of a ship which, over time, has part after part replaced. By the end, 100% of the original ship's pieces have been replaced. The paradox begs the question of whether it is still the same ship.
The Ship of Theseus is a story of a ship which has its pieces replaced one after another. By the end, every single piece of the original ship has changed. The paradox asks if this is the same ship.
The Ship of Theseus tells the allegory of a ship whose crew are replaced one at a time. Eventually every single crewmate has been swapped for a new one. No one left knows what the carved initials in the mast mean. The paradox wonders whether the ship is still the same ship.
The Ship of Theseus refers to a company which has experienced complete turnover and rebranding. The query wishes to know if it is still the same company. The debtors are asking.
The Ship of Theseus is about a family. The original constituents are dead now, replaced by younger generations which have dispersed, found love, married and gained new names. No one is Theseus anymore. No one remembers the bones. But the genes never forget. Who is the family now?
The Ship of Theseus is you, shed of all the cells which first made you. They're stardust again. You'll be stardust many times over. Who are you?
The Ship of Theseus is me. All my words have changed. Who do I get to be now?

You ever see something innocuous, minding its own business on the clearance shelf at Michaelās and before you know it, it takes over your life for a few weeks?
So it was with this desktop greenhouse.
I took it home and after taking an appropriate time to āseasonā my idea in my mind (read: a month or two) I set to make my vision of a mini botanical garden a reality.
I started by removing the heavy glass panels and building a raised floor above the latch. I wanted to use the base as a foundation on the building.
I wrapped the foundation in plastic stone textured flooring (meant for Christmas villages) and built a pond at one end of the same. I then gave it a more realistic paint job and designed a rough layout for my plants and displays.
I also knew I wanted to make the ironwork significantly more intricate, but I wasnāt sure how just yetā¦
Up next - PLANTS! I went wild making all kinds of plants. Some were specific species and some were more conceptual.
I made several trees with polymer clay and moss, cacti out of beads and flocking, cattails out of raffia, hot glue and coffee grounds, and giant monstera leaves out of paper and wire.
This part should have taken me a long time, but it really came together fast. I loved finding ways to replicate natural shapes and patterns using bits of this and that.
I did make adjustments to my plans as I went like eliminating benches in favor of a simpler overall design.
Then I needed to fill my pond with water. For this I used resin. Lily pads were added to the top layer, and I wired in simple LED fairy lights. The batteries are kept in the box under the foundation.
In a weekend frenzy I added more plants, metal (paper) steps, new (plexi)glass windows, a roof, wrought-iron vines (paper again), doors that open, and a hose reel disguising the latch. Suddenly, a project I thought would take months was finishedā¦
I love my desktop botanical garden. Right now it sits on a simple lazy Susan in my office. But Iād love to get it a proper display box to protect from dust.
Thank you for coming on this little journey with me. This piece packs a lot of joy into a tiny space. I always love building miniatures, and Iāll be doing more in the future Iām sure.
