My thoughts on revenge porn as a plot device: in order to slow the Great Conversion, Armand needed to throw a bucket of cold water (so to speak) on top of the admiration the other vampires feel for Lestat. It’s not enough to kill him, artists often become even more popular after their death. They needed to scandalize him. Shame him. Disgust the other vampires to truly douse the flames of the great conversion.
