And now, we return to the Villa Aurora, where Thaisha Lloy is attempting a Candescent Creed speedrun
The Liar’s Blade
*sobbing* i love em
Politically, Ingrid is an excellent match for Julien not only because of her position in Helvar and her vast fortunes or even her sorcerous might. It is also because she has a spine of fucking steel to stubbornly defy the likes of her father, flee his command, betray his motives, and agree to continue doing so for the sake of finding an out from a Tachonis marraige and her own attraction to Julien, and thus might be one of the few individuals in Araman who can weather having Maya Davinos as a mother in law.

King Gus and the coolest wizard in Dol-Makjar.
[id: art of king gus and murray. king gus wears a red coat and red-gold shirt that's open at the chest, as well as a tooth on a cord around his neck. he is covered in blood, and holding a wide-brimmed hat in his hand. murray stands in front of him, wearing her canon outfit, her hand protectively on his chest/the hat. she has a nosebleed; her hair flows out around her, and she is grinning as she brandishes a bloodstained knife in front of them both. end id.]
happy pride!

Truly, the level of reclamation and the build-up of Hal’s play is giving me chills.
The Pariah blades are no longer hidden away in a museum. They’ve been soaked in the freed blood and spirit of the people who forged and wielded them.
They are in the hands of Rungjani, clanging in the streets of Dol-Makjar, calling the people to witness a story.
The Hallowed Round is also covered in the liberated blood of Rungjani. Blood held captive for centuries now shapes the forms and faces of Rungjani, captives who strove and died, but did not fail, because their rebellion was a step forward on the path toward freedom.
The play is going forward, with no influence from the Creed. Everyone in the city will see it in its true form— a story of rebellion.
It makes me think of the Falconer’s Rebellion, another failed rebellion. Two rebellions that failed with the fall of a single great man.
But there were nine blades used in the Rebellion that succeeded. Decades later, the Lloy name is held in highest honor as the creators of the Blades, not the wielders.
It makes me think of Uli saying, “I know now that those who sang songs in this place, even if the words were meant to soothe [Azgra’s] wrath and keep our lives in propitiating his fury; the melody, the dance, the fury and the passion, that was always for us.”
It makes me think of Demodus, saying that things have to start as an illusion first.
It makes me think of Thaisha, speaking a Rungjani blessing, blessing the Conqueror, “for in his appetite, he saw Aramán forever changed from what it was to what it might be. A blessing to him, then, that the Rungjani reject peace in favor of a dream.”
Why do we tell stories?
I think I know. And I’m very excited for opening night.
I love how unsure and quiet Hal was when sharing information with the Seekers. The "I feel like I'm just along for the ride" thing was very poignant to me in relation to his arc so far. Especially after he had his own separate battle at the gala. Like, it's not really true. He's recruiting Rowena Roundtree, getting the food for the food bank, helping rob the Archanade, etc. But he clearly feels in over his head all the time. And Murray has taken on the role of chief puzzle solver while Azune is the point person on dealing with the Sundered Houses and the militia. So it feels like both a genuine moment of self-depreciation (Murray, Azune, and Bolaire all have a better idea of what's going on) and a comforting fiction for him to cling to (I'm not really that involved, I'm just along for the ride)

I'll admit, Azune purposefully changing his features to more resemble a mix of Harondus and his wife is an insane move, and I am HERE! FOR! IT! Nobody is doing it like him! No one is on his fucking level! The nobles are all trying to play the Game of Thrones, and Azune is playing circles around them. He is the star! He is the moment! He is smearing his sister's blood across his face to feel closer to her!
I love these idiots sm man
One of the things I'm most looking forward to is the look of betrayal in the Einfasen cop lordling's face when he realizes that Azune has never been by his side and has been using him for his own purposes the entire time. Both him and the other Hallovar want so much to believe Azune is that loyal simply because they expect everybody to be. They are so so pleased that they finally found help that acts how he's supposed to.
Azune's lies work so well because they are convinced that there is no way on earth that somebody like him would ever be able to lie to them without their notice. The subtle change in appearance is genius because Einfassen is never going to forget Azune's history but the closer he believes him to be like him the more he is going to trust him. As trustworthy competent people should be just as much like him as possible, of course.
I just really hope that when the penny finally drops it ends in their total ruin and we really get to linger on it.
Thaisha, finally back in Dol-Makjar: Look at this. Amazing. No sparrow swords. No getting chased by sky ghouls in an eagle carriage. No corpses devoured by spectral nightingales. No half-dying through a trauma parade in Bird Hell. No one is birds here. It's all behind us.
Soldiers: What's up, we're calling ourselves the Fanged Falcons :)
Thaisha: no
Schemers: What a coincidence, our network is a Mischief of Magpies. A Tiding of Magpies to friends :)
Thaisha, head in her hands: no no no

Yanessa's "death" obviously works incredibly well on a narrative level, but it also is actually an incredible move on the metanarrative/D&D level. It's pretty typical for a DM to rule that an NPC is instantly killed by something that would reasonably take a few rounds were they an NPC - think Thjazi dying as quickly as any commoner when he was hanged. And we accept this, because combat/death save rules are governing a very specific aspect of play and exist for PCs to be able to do their thing without dying instantly, but like, we all know that gets goofy around the edges, we know that L20 characters can just, rules as written, jump off a 20 story building and reliably live and that's how PCs work, but not NPCs. So sure, Yanessa mechanically has to be on par with Amariya Cormoray (who is almost certainly L17+) but the idea of a single bolt killing her is like, yeah, well, it's a special bolt laced with Narratively, It's Important To One Shot Kill Her, and it does 100+ damage. Except, of course, that it's not, and she wasn't, and she was faking the whole time. Incredible work playing with audience and experienced D&D player expectations there.
Thinking about how IMMEDIATE Bolaire's turn to give Azune a potion and immediately using that momentum to kill who killed Azune with a sword shoved so deeply in their skull that Bolaire didn't pull it out, just made a new one
That's his friend right there!!!! He is NOT gonna let Azune die on his watch!!!!!!
