so does the uk falling apart mean that johnlock is about to go canon or is that just for american politics
("he only got two eyes" voice) he only got 13 episodes
Being overly-familiar with a series is such a weird burden sometimes because like
you’ll see some theory being passed around that you instantly know is wrong. Like it’s surprising to see people supporting it because the flaws in its logic are so glaringly obvious. Until it hits you that, yeah it’s wrong, but only because you were able to immediately remember the 5 second conversation between two background characters 17 minutes through s2e13 that definitively disproves it. And no casual fan would have any reason to remember that off the top of their head and it’s you who’s the weird human encyclopedia with a shot-for-shot memory the entire damn series.
Like at that point you don’t even know anymore whether to argue your point or just…maybe go outside for a little bit.
That is a gorgeous song! I liked the album version, but this performance she did on Jimmy Kimmel was so good, I almost liked it better. Love the violin! I would happily listen to a whole album of her. Thank you for sharing that with me. ❤️
<33333 glad you liked it!

Full offense but sometimes fandom just totally make up the characterization of a character and then complain when that isn’t canon
Also full offense but sometimes fandom makes up characterization of a character and then guilt trips and shames any fan that doesn’t agree with that specific perspective in all fanon works.
Big supernatural even in 2020. Big doctor who news in 2021. I really think it’s best we all prepare for next year and the inevitable.

Sherlock attempts to show affection towards others. A+
Sherlock Holmes modern adaptation but the main characters (Sherlock, Watson, Mrs. Hudson, Irene Adler, and maybe even Lestrade) are all vampires and they’ve just been doing their thing since the time period of the original books
Irene gets to be from New Jersey like she is in canon and she’ll occasionally show up and help Sherlock with a case but they don’t ever date or hook up or anything
OR… Lestrade isn’t a vampire, but there’s been generations of Lestrades, and they all have to deal with this guy
the latest one isn’t even a cop she works nights at the 7-11 and Sherlock keeps coming in at 2am to slam two gallons of Monster Energy and ask her what what the fuck an “amogus” is (it’s case related) and tell her how much better she is at lateral thinking than her tragically straightforward ancestor and also is her girlfriend still going to school to be a defense attorney, how’s she handling the workload
okay, but who turned them and when? bc there is a lot of delicious angst and goofiness to be exlored if say:
irene has kids before being turned and is invested in her descendants
john was already with mary and has to see her age and pass
mrs. hudson is the vampire queen
the lestrades are like. the opposite of the vanhelsings. generational disinterest in vampires, but the holmes enclave keeps roping them back in.
1) Irene adopts and yes she is The Cool Grandma for generations of children forevermore
2) Mary is also a vampire, she got turned at the same time as John, she and Sherlock have Wine Wednesdays every third Saturday of the month
3) Mrs. Hudson is immortal but she’s not a vampire and nobody can figure out what her deal is
4) absolutely 100% correct
whenever anybody asks how they got turned the response is something along the lines of “that was like. Over five years ago. How do you expect me to even remember that.” or “idk man I just woke up like this” or “got bitten by a mosquito on a case” and it’s never the same twice
Yes the Sherlock Holmes books exist and whenever they’re brought up Watson gets very upset that this dude stole his writing and considers him his archnemesis despite the fact that Doyle is a totally normal human and dead as hell
imagine Watson’s frothing rage at the Doyle estate insisting Holmes can never be shown having emotions. like he didn’t personally watch Sherlock weep during the moon landing.
Holmes and Watson are embroiled in a legal battle against the Doyle estate and have been for almost 100 angry, angry years
this is only ever mentioned in passing for comedic effect
Every so often, I remember that like 80% of Tumblr (myself included) was completely enraptured by a show where the big twist was that the main character forgot his childhood friend was murdered by his sister, and for some reason only remembers his childhood friend ever existing as a dog.
And in that same episode it’s revealed that the same sister…..like…..hypnotized (?) the main character’s arch rival into hating him by, like, staring at him for a few minutes.
In our collective defense, this is when we all decided “hey we should probably stop watching Sherlock”
#Sherlock #I only watched the first two seasons? (via @raptortooth)
god i wish that were me
Wait What?
series 3 of sherlock: john marries mary morstan off-camera, the show mocks all the fans who kept the hype up during a two year hiatus, mary turns out to be an assassin who shoots sherlock, during which time he has a near-death-experience dream about his dog redbeard who was put down. also there’s a weird scene where john is revealed to be attracted to danger and so he dated mary because he was subconsciously picking up the fact that she used to be an assassin. also the series ends with sherlock committing murder in front of witnesses to save john and mary.
christmas special: sherlock goes on a bender where he hallucinates a victorian-era case, the episode ends with moriarty seemingly returning via social media and mycroft making a cryptic reference to “the other one.” oh, also any consequences from sherlock committing murder are immediately negated.
series 4: HOO BOY.
episode 1: mary is killed due to her assassin past, but no one really cares since she’s only been in the show for all of four episodes. she keeps coming back as a recorded voice/hallucination.
episode 2: john goes to a new grief counseler. also he keeps hallucinating mary. sherlock is told to solve a murder by the murderer’s daughter, but it turns out that while the murderer has a daughter, it’s not the woman who gave him the case to solve! eurus, sherlock and mycroft’s sister, has simultaneously masqueraded as john’s grief counseler and the murderer’s daughter and a random woman who keeps following sherlock because she’s a master of disguise! (to be fair, this is a legitimately cool reveal and I genuinely didn’t see it coming)
episode 3: HOO. FUCKING. BOY. eurus is sherlock and mycroft’s sister who’s been in a prison for the criminally insane for decades. mycroft has withheld this knowledge from both sherlock and their parents by claiming she died in a fire she started. turns out she’s able to hypnotize people with ???? her superior intellect ???????? and so even talking to her makes people want to do things for her like commit murder ????????? and so she’s somehow able to do things like escape from her scary island prison and then take herself back, blow up baker street, kidnap multiple people, and then pull Saw-esque morality problems on Mycroft and Sherlock and John where she just murders people for funsies with no apparent motive. IT IS DURING THIS SEQUENCE THAT IT IS REVEALED THAT SHERLOCK HAD A HUMAN BEST FRIEND THAT EURUS MURDERED BUT REWROTE HIS OWN MEMORIES TO IMAGINE IT WAS A PET DOG WHO DIED.
Y’ALL. IT IS SO DUMB. IT IS SO DUMB THAT THE FANDOM GENUINELY HAD A CONSPIRACY THEORY GOING FOR A WHILE THAT THERE HAD TO BE A SECRET FOURTH EPISODE - OF A SHOW THAT ONLY EVER HAD THREE EPISODES PER SERIES - BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WAY THAT SOMETHING THAT BAD COULD BE THE FUCKING FINAL EPISODE.
I am so grateful to this post for vindicating my decision never to watch s4

you’re not haunted by bbc sherlock
you miss it
Deleting my dating apps because I want to meet someone the old fashioned way (a mutual acquaintance introduces us because we both need a flatmate and eventually we grow close through their unique occupation as a consulting detective and I become their personal biographer)
the biggest thing that people get wrong about Irene Adler, even more than making her a love interest (Holmes respects her because she defeated him and then left) or a recurring character (she’s in one story) is giving her an English accent
it is 100% canon that she is from New Jersey
“A Scandal in Bohemia,” in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, 1892
i made 3 dozen sugar cookies
people describing BBC Sherlock like ‘a normal dude meets an extraordinary yet weird person’, meanwhile, John is killing men through windows and screaming in Tesco

Sherlock Holmes is one of the most romantic characters in literary history he takes Watson on dates to the theater and figures out which music is Watson’s favorite and plays it for him on his violin and takes him on walks by the sea and through the park and holds his hand when he’s scared…and still adaptations be like “hmmmmm cold and mean and distant hates everyone and tolerates Watson sometimes” Like sorry that you don’t understand love. Where is the adaptation that exaggerates his compassion and romanticism and affectionate nature instead of exaggerating the same boring “cold and pretty rude man who thinks emotions are stupid” thing that’s been done a million times??? Here’s a Hot Take: making something cynical is not the same as making it deep!!! Let Sherlock Holmes be gentle!!! Let him be gay!!!
YES. Although, I have to say that Howard Holmes pretty much is that adaptation. If you want a Holmes who is light-hearted, affectionate, and full of mischief and humour, then for the love of Doyle watch Howard Holmes <3
YES DO.
Seconding Howard Holmes, and might I also recommend the Soviet Sherlock Holmes series? It features lots of hugs and Holmes crying along with Watson once he comes back from the dead. He’s such a nice Holmes, if a bit of a prankster.
YES DAMN IT!!
Granada Holmes doesn’t nail this all the time, but there are moments of such vulnerability that they break my heart. jeremy brett does so much of that emotional heavy lifting – but i want more!!!
i was watching & thinking tonight – SO many adaptations forget that holmes is canonically kind to children & to vulnerable women. watson isn’t even the only one to receive holmes’ kindnesses – he’s not nearly as closed-off as he seems on first glance.
