I wanted to write a coherent comment on the 'Hornblower' books I've read so far but I don't think I can?? I just finished reading 'Hornblower and the Hotspur' and I'm honestly surprised by the differences in lt. Bush's and Horatio's povs(?). In 'Lieutenant Hornblower' Bush's behaviour is like a teenage girl's guide on how to obsess over your crush. I thought that it would be constant? To some extent? Maybe to show how glorious and amazing is the British Navy (all of the officers are good people = they adore each other?? I honestly don't know).

But then you see Horatio's thoughts and they're pretty normal. As normal as they can be at least. Bush is just a Freak. He's just like that. I don't know what's his problem but I support him.

Hornblower thinks about the ship or his orders or his duty, sometimes about how the others (including Bush) must (!!) think that he's a weirdo. And Bush just stands there giggling and kicking his feet or whatever?? ??
