TADC FINALE SPOILERS!!!
guys guys guys guys guys
maybe i missed this in the finale (because i never did get the chance to go through and dissect the episode, and i probably won't get that chance in the forseeable future) but uh
did we ever get an explanation on Jax's key thing?
i'm (painfully) aware that a lot of things were left unexplained, assuming im not missing anything (which is entirely possible) but like
the keys??
i saw so many theories floating around; jax couldn't get into ribbit's room when she abstracted so she has keys for everyone just in case, she was collecting them to create an exit/unlock an exit once she found one, she just liked sneaking into people's rooms to pull pranks n stuff, etc. but we never get explicit closure and these all lack plausibility in my head
i mean;
the theory about jax keeping keys to everyone's room in case of an emergency seems highly unlikely. with the added context from the finale, we know that she took one look at abstracted kaufmo and dipped immediately. she also was insanely ignorant and apathetic surrounding ribbit's abstraction, and acted indifferent when pomni asked about her own. it may have affected her deeply, but she wasn't going to do anything anyways.
the idea of trying to find and exploit an exit also seems uncharacteristic. the biggest evidence to the contrary is when jax, panicking, presses the button that would leave all the characters in the circus. we also now know that jax was homeless and afraid of being hunted/arrested for possibly murdering her mother. if anything, jax literally sabotaged everyone else just to get out of going back. so, working that hard just to find and escape seems insanely unplausible.
however, i don't think the narrative would have jax collect keys for something as mundane as pulling pranks. we now know this theory is much more in character for jax, sure, but something like this almost fits with the idea of kinger (and eventually the rest of the characters) being able to do basically anything with just their minds.
a huge unanswered question regarding this whole thing is "where does jax get her keys?". the only plausible answer i can see is that she just wills them into existence herself. as seen in episode six, jax does understand the fact that characters can do things with their minds. the only one to truly understand it at this point is, of course, kinger, but he isnt sane enough to pass along this information. we know he didn't do so to jax, because ragatha was incredibly confused when kinger just created a healing butterfly out of nothing, and we know now that she was the first to arrive at the circus after everyone besides kinger abstracted. also i think kinger loves ragatha way more than jax and would've already told her everything if he had been sane enough to do so lol
im wondering if it has anything to do with jax's irl home life, as a trauma/abuse response? there's a thought there but i can't really place it
so, in summary: (tl,dr i guess lol) why did jax collect keys? im very unsure because all the big theories are too easily debunked, but the trait seems like it has huge potential to have been a big conspiracy or something and i can't figure out what it could be
