Immemor of Orpheus
An interpretation: Orpheus was destined to look back. The ascent from the underworld was a metaphor. Without that final backward glance, his journey back home would never end.
This was no cruel game devised as a test by Hades or Persephone. Eurydice was never meant to return to the living. In varying tellings of the myth, she is called a shade the moment she steps back into the tale, already belonging to the realm below. Every step of that long, silent ascent, every second he kept his eyes locked ahead and refused to look, was but grief pretending not to know what it had always known. It was Orpheus’s own illusion, spun from sorrow, to hold the truth at bay a little longer.
To turn and look, then, was never a failure. It was the moment acceptance finally arrived. In that single glance, she was no longer lost. She became eternal, enshrined in memory that even death cannot touch.

I don't think anyone has cross-posted this but I need everyone to see this gorgeous animation by snen_ks on Instagram
the creative ways that his face is covered... the beautiful art... the theme of Eurydice's memory fading... and the last shot is Devastating
I think about their story a lot lately, why does he turn? “Because he loves her, because what is love if not to turn” etc are not really satisfying nor explanatory and i cannot find any logical (both emotionally and rationally) answer. Without totally romanticizing or altering the story, why do you think he turns?
An extremely sad fanfic I would write if I were still writing longform fanfic
90s AU: Orpheus is the lead singer of a grunge band, Eurydice is the terminally ill flower shop girl that he's in love with, Hades is the callous medical bureaucrat that denies her coverage for life saving surgery. the chorus/workers are his friends in the band, Hermes owns the bar where they play and Persephone frequents. The fates run a tarot shop next to the flower shop and the bar. Eurydice does not survive but there will be some magical realist woo woo bullshit throughout so that it is somehow not the end. Maybe more explicitly Morgan and Jack than my minific but maybe more vague depending on how I feel.
