what reading 90% of historical opinions on this website is like
me: haha oh god this is so bad im making so many unsupported claims and pulling all this analysis out of my ass
my prof in the margins: excellent analysis!
me:Â
when i was in high school i used to write my papers thinking wow iâm just bullshitting all of this. then like a week before my senior year ended after all the grades were set, i was talking to my english teacher and told him you know i just bullshitted every paper i wrote. he told me that while i may have thought i was just pulling it all out of my ass, i genuinely knew what i was talking about and made well-supported analyses. i only thought i was bullshitting because it didnât take much effort and it all seemed obvious to me. if you do well on your essays even though you think youâre just making it up as you go, chances are youâre not pulling it out of your ass. youâre just a genuinely talented analyst, even if the analysis that youâre making comes from a subconscious understanding of the material rather than a conscious effort to study it. give yourself some credit.Â
sorry, professor whats his nuts
I canât stop laughing
it blows my mind when high school teachers think college professors are super professional when this is a literal email i got from my stat professor an hour ago

The real college experience
- Depression nap at noon - âI havenât been to that class in 2 weeks lmaoâ - sometimes ya just see ppl crying and thatâs okay - sometimes ya just see ppl napping and thatâs okay - DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG SOMEONE IS WALKING THEIR DOG ON CAMPUS THIS IS NOT A DRILL - âIs it free?â - âwill there be free food?â - profs walking in late, hungover in pajamas - profs saying the fuck word and the freshies being surprised - *prof walks in 15 minutes late* ây'all want some milk dudsâ - a second Depression nap - finding a lost temple in the middle of the campus gardens and using it as a study and napping spot - seriously why has no one else found this spot - accidentally getting locked into a building because you studied until 3am and you have to escape through a fire escape on the second floor - Hammock Squad⢠- witnessing a mental breakdown at least once a semester - IHOP at 2am with the squad - having to throw away your favorite water bottle because it smells like the alcohol you drank that one time you almost died on homecoming week - the apartment 2 doors down is having a party and they saw you walking to get your mail and invited you and now youâre drunk and sitting on the floor with their dog - The Weed Smell - The First Crossfaded Experience - everyoneâs gay - that one prof you become best friends with and ppl wonder if y'all are fuckin but in reality y'all are probably just chillin and watchin cowboy bebop or some shit

How to Write a Cover Letter Someone Will Actually Read
Okay, so when applying for jobs, youâre generally going to need 4 things: 1) a completed application, 2) your resume, 3) a cover letter, and 4) a list of references. The application you need to do on your own and itâs just filling in boxes, you can handle that. Resumes Iâve already covered! Now, itâs on to the joy absolute gut-wrenching hell that is writing a cover letter.

sure i guess sex is okay but have you ever closed a dozen tabs after finishing an academic paper
Since once in a blue moon I actually discover a decent rule for adulting, and since I know I have followers a few years younger than me who are just entering the workforce, I want to tell you about a very important phrase.Â
âI wonât be available.â
Imagine youâre at work and your boss asks you to come in on Saturday. Saturday is usually your day offâcoming in Saturdays is not an obligation to keep your job. Maybe you were going to watch a movie with a friend, or maybe you were just going to lie in bed and eat ice cream for eight hours, but either way you really, really donât want to give up your day off.
If you consider yourself a millennial youâve probably been raised to believe you need to justify not being constantly at work. And if youâre a gen-Z kid youâre likely getting the same toxic messages that we did. So in a situation like that, you might be inclined to do one of three things:
Tell your boss youâd rather not give up your day off. Cave when they pressure you to come in anyway, since youâre not doing anything important.
Tell your boss youâd rather not give up your day off. Over-apologize and worry that you looked bad/unprofessional.
Lie and say youâve got a doctorâs appointment or some other activity that feels like an adequate justification for not working.
The fact is, it doesnât matter to your boss whether youâre having open heart surgery or watching anime in your underwear on Saturday. The only thing that affects them is the fact that you wonât be at work. So telling them why you wonât be at work only gives them reason to try and pressure you to come in anyway.
If you say âI wonât be available,â giving no further information, youâd be surprised how often thatâs enough. Be polite and sympathetic in your tone, maybe even say âsorry, but I wonât be available.â But donât make an excuse. If your boss is a professional individual, theyâll accept that as a ânoâ and try to find someone else.Â
But bosses arenât always professional. Sometimes theyâre whiny little tyrants. So, what if they pressure you further? The answer isâpolitely and sympathetically give them no further information.
âAre you sure youâre not available?â âSorry, but yes.â
âWhy wonât you be available?â âI have a prior commitment.â (Which you do, even if itâs only to yourself.)
âWhatâs your prior commitment?â âSorry, but thatâs kind of personal.â
âCan you reschedule it?â âIâm afraid not. Maybe someone else can come in?â
If you donât give them anything to work with, they canât pressure you into going beyond your obligations as an employee. And when they realize that, theyâll also realize they have to find someone else to come in and move on.

how to include Dungeons & Dragons on your resume
I normally donât comment on posts like this but HOLY SHIT I can tell you that this sort of thing is EXTREMELY helpful if you need to buff up your resume a bit.Â
Ever customize a tumblr theme? BAM! You have HTML experience.Â
Taken on commissions, even if it was for something like, I dunno, Gaia gold back in the day? BAM! Professional artist.
Create your own graphics for your blog? BAM! Image editing experience/junior graphic designer.
Roleplay? BAM! Working collaboratively in a creative capacity.Â
You gotta look at your hobbies and boil them down to what youâre really doing. Everything you do gives you experience in SOMETHING, you just gotta figure out how to word it in different ways.Â
