I need to be manhandled.. but like.. by a woman
Beleaguered best friends.
If the crew of Voyager had a tumblr:
Janeway posts coffee, dogs, space phenomenon and every once in a while a drunk post that Tuvok deletes immediately but Tom always reblogs first.
Chakotay posts Quotes of the Day, mindfulness tips, pictures of nature and photos of himself with old Maquis friends.
Tuvok claims to not have one but secretly follows everyone from a tumblr called āask Voyagerās Senior Staffā that answers asks for the Bridge crew and memes. He can also hack into everyone elseās, as necessary.
BāElanna changes her username every 90 days or so, routinely deletes posts or her entire blog on a whim, has been accused of being a Social Justice Warrior despite at least 80% of her posts being about robotics and engineering.
Tom posts gifs from 20th century TV shows, cars, and shuttlecraft races. And heās the meme king.
Harry posts performances of Jazz musicians, pictures of Earth, and things he knows the others like tagged with their usernames.
The Doctor posts daily health tips and weekly articles on disgusting medical issues that could happen to the crew if they DONāT COME IN FOR THEIR DAMN VISIT. Also political statements about being alive.
Neelix posts candid photos of the crew, fairy tales from various cultures, recipes, and images of Kes that walk the line between cute and creepy. He also reblogs all of Chakotayās quotes and The Doctorās tips.
Kes posts photos of all the interesting species theyāve encountered as well as flowers and plants. Also kittens and kitten equivalents.
Seven doesnāt understand so she just posts her official logs. Janeway tries to explain so she starts posting coffee, dogs, space phenomenon. Janeway sighs and tells her āSeven, NO, things YOU likeā so then Seven posts pictures of Janeway.Ā She also posts about Janewayās service record, which Tuvok promptly deletes starting a war of tumblr attrition because Seven doesnāt like her things being tampered with, even by Tuvok. Eventually he explains to her why her posts are inappropriate and while she disagrees, she stops out of respect for authority.Ā

During Parallax
Kathryn: As most of you must realize by now, I've asked Captain Chakotay to be my new first officer.
Chakotay: Why are they looking at me Like I'm a zoo animal??
Tom: Well, Captain Janeway acts as sort of the mom of the group, so emotionally this is kind of like being told that you're our new dad.
Chakotay: But you know it's nothing like that right?
Harry: Absolutely. Do you cook macaroni?
Chakotay: Be the bigger person.
Kathryn: No? I'm 5'5 and bitter. You be the bigger person.

I was thinking today about Leverageāas one doesāand about the various grifting styles we see the team employ, and how most of them have a very particular grift strategy that they rarely stray from when they have to be the main one in the spotlight. And what I think is really interesting is how their strategies are often exact opposites.
Eliotās syle of grifting is to flatten himself, to make himself seem simple. He plays nerds, āmanipulate-ableā fighters, awkward librarians and accountants and basically people itās easy to dismiss or to pigeonhole as one thing (whereas in reality heās anything but that). In direct contrast, Sophieās entire grift style plays up her mysteriousness. She draws people in because they want to know more about her, because sheās intriguing and fascinating and thereās the suggestion that if only the mark were worthy of her time and attention, she knows things they could only dream of.
Nateās style is to be incredibly obnoxious. Which, letās all congratulate him on playing to his strengths, first of all. But second of all, itās a really interesting grift style, because basically it manipulates people by annoying them. While Sophie draws people in and directs their attention and clouds their judgement by making them want her around, Nate directs peopleās attention and clouds their judgement by making them want him to leave. Theyāre both very effective at getting a person to do exactly what they want!
And while Eliotās grift style almost always involves him pretending to be bad at something (physically harmless alien nerd, unsophisticated boxer who canāt people good, etc), Hardisonās grifts almost always involve him being an expert at something (Iceman, FBI agent, even conspiracy theorist) and using his expertise to gain access, authority, etc.
And then I was thinking about Parker and trying to pin down her style, and I realized that another reason why she was an excellent choice of leader is that she can kind of do them all. Every grift she does has that tinge of āweirdā to it, because thatās who she is, but sheās able to switch between strategies in a way that the others never really employ. She can be unassuming and underestimated (Alice, baby reporter), off-putting and upsetting (that pop star with the duck), an expert who comes in and takes over (FBI agent), or intriguing and enticing (that scene with the diamond necklace, you know the one, we all know the one, you whispered āoh no sheās hotā at the screen donāt lie). I wouldnāt say sheās the best grifter, thatās definitely Sophie, but she might be the most versatile one.
Basically Parker is the best, Leverage is the best, we all knew that, thank you for your time.
letās all congratulate him on playing to his strengths
this is gorgeous
all this is really true but also the way Eliot gets people to underestimate and pigeonhole him is interesting
like he pours all of himself and all of his passion into whatever the role at hand says he is good at
and the reaction is usually likeĀ āokay he canāt possibly be all of that and ___ā (whatever the mark needs to think heās useless at)
like if you look at the way he played the part ofĀ āchefā in the french connection job
heās not underplaying anything, thatās all the power of Eliot Spencer right there
he even does the thing with his eyes
but itās so focused intoĀ āchefāness that the mark dismisses him as anything else
āWhich, letās all congratulate him on playing to his strengths, first of all.ā
Hello 911? Iād like to report a murder.
Thereās a greatā¦podcast? I think, where J Rogers talks about how Eliot goes for a social power position where he is the lesser power role in the situationā¦
I love this show.
things i am going to teach my children later: theĀ āpick one favouriteā syndrome embedded in our culture is stupid and useless
it starts at fucking pre-school, in those little get-to-know-me books, and it never ends. favourite colour? mother tongue? favourite character? best friend? favourite sport? song? movie? book? series? band? toy? no you can only pick one
and i am deeply convinced that this is intrinsically linked to one of the things that annoys me the most, which is that in our society, itās considered a sign of maturity to prioritise one thing, and often specifically one person, above everything else. i mean, priorities are definitely important, but you are also absolutely allowed to equally enjoy/love/feel connected to different things without constructing some kind of hierarchy where one of them always wins out
āyou can only like one gender, you can only be one (of the twoĀ ābiologicalā - ha) genders, you can only have one partner, you must have one best friend, you must have one favourite activity (preferably your job, bc that makes you a functional member of society) because clearly if you love multiple things, you must love them less than if you spent all that love on one thingā
this rhetoric creates so much guilt and jealousy -Ā as if love is a finite concept.
(incidentally it is also possible to genuinely love something without it being one of the things you love the most, and that doesnāt make that love any less valid, but thatās another discussion)
#love openly and limitlessly
Recovery isnāt the destruction and absence of your negative emotions/symptoms, itās learning to express and deal with those negative emotions in healthy ways no matter how or when they arise

Knowing that trans women of color started the movement in the united states and were literally immediately erased and excluded from what they started is the most deeply jading knowledge.
It is the original sin of the so-called queer community and it damns it from the cradle.

Without Stonewall, without the efforts of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, the LGBTQ Community wouldnāt be where it is today. Donāt forget the roots, donāt forget the catalyst.
and then TERFs wanna be like, āhmm well the LGBT community existed before Stonewall!ā
but likeā¦Becky, of course LGBTQ+ people existed before Stonewall. Weāve all existed since the beginning of time. But the movement got a shock to its senses, a jump-start, a rocket-into-space when that glass shattered via Marsha P. Johnson, and when Sylvia Rivera was up on-stage protesting guess who was on the sidelines heckling her?
The same fuckers who wonāt ever reblog or acknowledge this
My apologies to the original poster as I photo captured this post to add to the thread-I reposted this last year for pride and expect to repost it every year I have left-itās our history people.

Help!
I officially start college classes in a few weeks and for the first time in my life Iāve decided to go in and talk to disability services about requesting an interpreter.
Does anyone have tips or experiences to share about using a terp for the first time??
Being single sided deaf, no one really notices my deafness until I tell them, so Iām trying to get over the fear of judgment of everyone thinking Iām faking it because I can talk to them normally, but I want a terp in class to make sure I clearly understand the professor and class discussions.
Any input is appreciated!
I had a deaf student last semester in one of my classes. In talking with the interpreter, had was the main interpreter for our student, so she went to all her classes (and would let us know if she had to have a sub for any reason). This allowed them to create a good working relationship, and she could learn different sign 'quirks' of the student, because there are some signs we all just do slightly differently.
Smthe interpreter expressed how she wished more people would take advantage of interpretation services instead of struggling so much. They understand deafness comes in lots of varieties, and can generally meet you where you are at level of sign kmowledge and complexity if school material. The interpreter was also a great advocate for her student, making sure we knew how to obtain a variety of services available through our accommodations office, including last minute subs if she came to a speaker program and the database of movie/video transcripts through our library.
So, as a college instructor, please PLEASE take advantage of these services and figure out how they can best serve what you need. We want you to succeed, and most of us are willing and ready to help in whatever ways are needed to do that.
As a HoH individual, please PLEASE get the assistance you need. They can also arrange for lectures to be recorded (audio only most of the time, but not exclusively) so you can have access to that help as well, as well as notetakers in case you miss things. Please use everything they've got, even if you don't think you need it, as you figure out what serves you the most and what isn't really useful... because you never know what will help you more than you ever thought possible!
When I become president of AAA, this will be on the t-shirts
I can help with that. Give me like two days.

While I like the concept, using Papa Johnsā logo style etc just hits me wrong. That company and its former CEO are no good, folks
Thatās fair. But art still good, yeah?
