Out of curiosity why can't mods explain bans in dms (/gen)? Is it simply a formality/professionalism thing or is there a deeper reasoning? I guess I can imagine its good to not set a precedent of it so that you guys don't get harassed by every single person who gets banned but is there more to it than that or have I just answered my own question lmao.
Idk I don't really understand a lot about how being a twitch mod works so I'm curious (and I'm sure a lot of other people are too, if so many people think its fine to send a dm asking why someone's banned).
yeah for sure, i can explain!
the first reason is what u said- its kind of a slippery slope situation. we cant really fairly pick and choose telling only SOME people, and it is to prevent us from getting bombarded on our personal accounts with people asking
the second reason is a little more serious. sometimes, there are victims involved. not every ban has to do with in-chat behavior, and sometimes we get reports of people who have made others feel unsafe, or worse. when that happens we simply can never disclose information for everyone's privacy and safety.
the third reason is yeah, professionalism. it sounds over the top for twitch modding, but its just bad practice to go around leaking private information on what someone did to get banned. sometimes the people asking what happened is OTHER people asking about someone else's ban and thats just awkward for everyone
reason number four is that we have been explicitly told to never discuss official mod business in private channels, so communication is always avaibale for other mods to look over and approve. keeping communications somewhere visible to everyone in charge is just part of the checks and balance system
and finally: this is a twitch chat. ultimately the goal of mods is to make the chat a safe and comfortable space for both chatters, yes, but also for the streamer. and the streamer NEVER has to justify the boundaries set in THEIR personal space. sometimes u fail the vibe check and u just gotta live with that
ik it sucks feeling like information is being kept arbitrarily, but you just gotta have trust that if you absolutely need to know something, you will, and every decision made is in the best interest of everyone here
i hope that clears things up! <3
