The entire series is about how people who have copious amounts of power which rely on and are strengthened by their perpetuating of suffering, which they do whether they want to or not no matter how guilty they are. Hm, I wonder how this relates to real life. Yes, I understand Jon is not a terrible guy. He was tricked by someone with power over him into setting forth the apocalypse. But by season five he literally has more power than ANYONE in the world. He is the person in power, he is who caused everyone on earth except for people who are evil (with some exceptions and nuance, but this still reminds me of some real life happenings so i thought it important to include) intense suffering! And, when given a terrible choice which would be wrong both ways, he decides not to help the people he’s already harmed, the people who he knows he can definitively help! He instead decides to prioritize his guilt and a potential other person in power’s guilt and go on with committing a genocide! His decision was one made from spite for what hurt him rather than compassion for those he hurt. Doesn’t seem very moral to me. And since (at least in my interpretation) tma is a pretty blatant capitalism critique (alongside other things) this isnt so far out there.
