This is a map of the range of all giraffe species. By my count that puts them in just 16 countries out of the 54 in Africa (of which 5 are island countries with no territory on the continental mainland). That's 30%, quite a long way shy of all, and as you can see many of those countries that do have giraffes only have a tiny portion of their territory within giraffes' habitats
Wow, I knew they weren't in "every African country", but I didn't realize just how restricted their range was
Good teachers don't mind saying "I don't know" or that they need to look it up and will get back to you.
Not only that but giraffes in different areas have different patterns and it's so cool

I would be the worst spy of all time because on one hand I overshare like hell, but on the other hand I also have THE shittiest memory so itâs really a lose/lose scenario for everyone involved.
guy interrogating me: Whatâs the passcode?
me: Ah fuck. I think it might be 792.....4?
me: Actually no I think it starts with a 2.
me:
me: Yeah I usually just rely on muscle memory for it. Do you think you could get a keypad in here? That might be faster.
guy interrogating me: who do you work for?!
me: Okay, so this is super embarrassing. I know he told me his name when we first met but I forgot and at this point it would be weird if I asked him for his name again, right? So I just kind of go with âsirâ whenever I have to talk to him. It might be David though. He looks like a David.
me, after being extracted: bad news guys, I totally blew Daveâs cover.
my boss: Wait, what?
me: Yeah, like they had knives and shit and it was kind of stressful so I just told them that my contactâs name was David Johnson. Really sorry about that.
boss: We donât have a David Johnson working for us. Are you thinking of James?
me:Â
me: Good news, guys, I did not blow Jamesâ cover!
Enemy 1: So, how did the interrogation go?
Enemy 2: We got nothing. All they did was ramble on about their childhood trauma for two hours.
Enemy 1: Hmm. maybe lower the dose of the truth serum next time.
Enemy 2: We didnât use truth serum.
It's end of May, yall know what that means
if you say any queer identity is not part of the lgbtq+ community, including but not limited to people with neopronouns, bi people who just happen to be in a straight relationship, and anyone on the ace or aro spectrum, i curse you with the gayest tapeworm you've ever seen
PSA:
âAsexualityâ is a sexual orientation describing little to no sexual attraction
âAyyyyy, sexuality!â is a guy at a bar imitating Chandler from Friends while talking about sexuality
âAye, sexuality,â is a pirate giving his kids âthe talkâ

Happy Pride Month!!
Letâs have a serious talk.
To the LGBT+ community. Stop invalidating other people in the community. Actually just fucking stop.
Bisexual people are valid. Pansexual people are valid. Asexual people are valid. Demisexual people are valid. Aromantic people are valid. All of you are valid. And this isnât to say lesbian people arenât valid, or gay people arenât valid, or trans people arenât valid. You. Are. All. Valid. Okay?! Stop trying to invalidate other people in the community.
For everyone that keeps saying terrible things about aro/ace people or try to say they arenât real(?!?!!!) remember that sexuality is based on preferences, behaviors, and attraction. So actually just shut the fuck up. For people who call bi and pan people âswitchesâ or invalid. Fuck you. Just because a bi or pan person is with someone of one gender doesnât immediately mean they arenât attracted to any other gender anymore.
This month should be all of us celebrating our identities. Not trying to silence anyone or invalidate anyone. Fight against the corporations that want to capitalize off us.
I didnât want to start pride month by telling some members of the community to absolutely go fuck themself and shut the fuck up, but yâall are out here telling tons of people theyâre invalid and insignificant or donât have a place in their own community. So absolutely shut the fuck up.
When my mother forgets a wordďżź, she is the queen of coming up with new words. Words that would take a third National Treasure movie to fully decipher.ďżź I was talking to her yesterday, and she said this: âYou know the time for los jibbities is coming upďżź. You must be so excited!âďżź Oh, is it time for los jibbities already?ďżź I must have missed it on my calendar. ďżźAre we celebrating something? âOf courseďżź! We should all be celebrating, shouldnât we?â ďżźOK, so los jibbities is a happy thing.ďżź Itâs not like something is giving you the heebie-jeebies, which would have been my one and only guess.ďżź âLos heebie-jeebies? Now youâre making things up.ďżź..and this is my show.â Youâre right. The time for los jibbities is coming upďżź. Is this a season? âYes, the season for love. The season for pride.âďżź OK, los jibbities. âYeah, sound it out.â LosâŚjibbities. LGBTs! âSĂ, mira cuz youâre gay!â âYou couldnât just say pride season? You couldnât just⌠*laughs*
HAPPY LOS JIBBITIES EVERYBODY!!!

Hi. Idk who needs to hear this.
Gas prices are not controlled by the president. Gas prices are controlled by oil and gas corporations, and world events.
And before you start spewing your âbut gas prices were so much better under Trump. Biden shut down a pipelineâ blah blah fucking blah. Shut the fuck up. Close your mouth. Read.
So letâs first discuss the gas prices during the peak of the COVID pandemic.
1. There was a global pandemic that resulted in government and societal shut downs.
2. Because people werenât leaving their houses often, the demand for gas was lower.
3. In 2020 there were 4226 drilling permits for gas on federal land. The average gas cost per gallon in the US was $2.17
4. In 2021 there were 4914 drilling permits for gas on federal land. The average cost of gas per gallon in the US went from $2.42 to $3.27 in that year.
So what does this all mean??? There was an over abundance of gas in 2020, so the prices were lower because there was a really high supply with very low demand. In 2021 there was still a high supply of gas, BUT the demand for gas increased as society began to return to normal. High supply, high demand.
Side note: there was no pipeline shut down, an extension of an existing pipeline was turned down. The extension of this pipeline would have risked the contamination of drinking water (Ogallala Aquifer) for millions of Americans including 340 perennial bodies of water. And do I need to remind people that gas and oil are non renewable resources?
Anyway. Letâs look at 2022.
1. There were 2852 approved gas drilling permits. Which is pretty well in line with average permits from 2013-2019
2. Average cost of gas per gallon in the US was $3.43 to $3.87
3. There was a removal of almost all COVID restrictions.
4. There were tons of wars and armed conflicts. Russian invaded Ukraine A LOT.
5. More oil is being exported now than ever before. Averaging 3.6 million barrels a day. This is a record.
What does this mean? Well. Our supply is lower and more is being exported. Wars impact the worth and value of oil. So demand is higher and supply is lower. Meaning prices will increase.
Thanks. Thatâs all for now. Go educate yourselves. Read some scholarly articles. If youâre going to read biased material, look at the sources for their counter arguments as well. If they have no sources then donât read them.

Iâm not missing it this year.
Happy Birthday buddy!
Iâm not too late!
Noooooo Iâm a day late. Happy belated birthday lil guy!!
fun funeral facts
embalming, the process of chemically preserving a corpse, is typically not required by law. unless you need to transport the body long-distance or postpone the burial, itâs 100% a vanity thing.
a body still rots in air-tight conditions. so âprotectiveâ or âsealedâ caskets are basically a scam, and anything fancy like metal is a waste of money.
want a beautiful casket for a viewing, but think burning or burying an expensive piece of hardwood is a waste of money and trees? rentals exist.
you donât need a coffin for cremation. the minimum requirement is that the body be in a âcremation container,â which is a simple cardboard box.
home funerals are an option. you donât need to hand the body over to a funeral home, and you can keep their involvement to a minimum.
natural burial sites exist. you can have your unembalmed body straight up thrown in the dirt to be tree food, if you want.
there are a lot of funeral homes that will prey on your ignorance and vulnerability in order to get as much money out of you as possible. they may imply optional certain services are legally mandatory, steer you away from cheaper options, charge additional costs for whatâs supposed to be all-inclusive services, etc.
one personâs death is another personâs profit. know your rights, do your research, and apply the same scrutiny you would to any other business.
For those of you interested, the youtube channel Ask A Mortician does a lot of videos on taboo death subjects, answers questions and is a huge advocate for natural burials and being present during the actual funeral process so you donât get taken advantage of by the funeral industry. Sheâs one of my favourite youtubers and I highly recommend her videos.
Iâm not OP, but as a fellow Ask a Mortician fan (Iâm even on the Patreon, Caitlyn is out here doing G-dâs work), HERE IS AN UPDATE:
âcremation and burial are not your only options. Some states now offer aquamation (basically your body is put in a special brine that breaks it down into nothing in a few hours) and terramation (aka human composting; your body is put into a dedicated pod with plant matter that accelerates the decay process and turns you into nutrient-rich soil in about six weeks). You also have the option to donate your body to a body farm or medical school. Check your stateâs or countryâs laws, and if you donât see the option you want, contact the Order of the Good Death to find out whoâs advocating in your area. If the answer is nobody, YOU can always be the person who starts the ball rolling.
ââbury your cremains in this fancy urn and youâll become a tree!â is a scam. Cremains contain no organic matter. If you want to be a tree, go for terramation or natural burial.
ââturn your loved oneâs cremains into a diamond!â is a scam. While you can technically turn cremains into a zircon (artificial diamond), the result is likely to be EXTREMELY ugly due to the amount of inclusions. If you want to wear a loved oneâs cremains as a memento mori, youâre far better off speaking to an artisan jeweler about getting a modern version of one of the glass rings or pendants that were popular in the Victorian era. There are likeminded people out there who will absolutely do this for you in a beautiful and compassionate way, but the âitâs diamonds!â techbro startup thing is not the way to go.
âwhat is and is not respectful to the dead will vary based on culture, but the one constant should be consent of the deceased. What do THEY want to happen to their body? Have this conversation with your loved ones while theyâre alive, and make sure the answers are written down. I know my sister wants a traditional Jewish burialââjust put me in the dirt and forget about it,â in her wordsâand she knows I want to be terramated. I know my dad wants to be buried next to my mom, although I need to check in with him if he wants his body buried or if he wants to be cremated first. Destigmatize this talk. It doesnât have to be uncomfortableâmaking sure your loved ones know exactly what you want takes a burden off them in the future, and making sure YOU know what THEY want will both help you when the time comes and provide the comfort of knowing youâve fulfilled their wishes.
And finally:
The reason Iâm such a staunch Caitlyn evangelist is because there is a nonzero chance one of her videos saved my life. My mom died sometime in the night between the first and second of January, 2021. Because travel for large amounts of people was off the table, my dad opted for two small funeralsâone here with a funeral home that refused to handle her body without a showing (unfortunately this was part of Covid price gougingâthere was literally nowhere else capable of taking her), and one with our proper family funeral home in our hometown. Because of Covid, this meant it took A FUCKING MONTH for my mother to be buried, and that shit is absolutely scarring. Iâd recently watched Caitlynâs âwhat does a full embalming look likeâ video, and her partner for that video said she likes to bring the family in to assist in helping with the deceased personâs hair, makeup, clothing, any part of the process theyâre willing to do, because she feels it helps with the grieving process. I was ready to grasp at anything that would let me feel like my mother wasnât stuck in an episode of American Horror Story, especially after the shitshow that was the funeral home here in Arizona. With this in mind I called the family funeral home and asked to do my momâs makeup; while I personally shudder at the thought of a traditional American burial, itâs what she wanted. Nancyâour familyâs mortician for the last 40 yearsâreadily agreed.
And so I went in, put on some of my momâs favorite old country singers, and did her makeup exactly the way she taught me when I was sixteen, with her own cosmetics instead of what the funeral home had on hand. Her hair was thin and fragile from her last illness and I couldnât curl it, but I fixed it up as well as I could, and painted her nails.
And let me tell you something.
The other mortician lady was right.
It was a massive comfort to me when Nancy took one look at my mom and said âoh, when you said she did her makeup differently you were right. I never would have guessed to do this.â (I donât know where my mom learned to put on blusher, but she did basically the exact opposite of every makeup tutorial Iâve ever seen, and her method of doing eyeshadow was extremely 1940s.) Every single person at the service kept saying she looked exactly like they remembered from so-and-soâs wedding, such-and-suchâs graduation, this-and-thatâs honorary party. It wasnât a vague âoh she looks so goodââshe looked LIKE HER to those who remembered her. People who knew Iâd done her makeup said they could tell it had to be someone whoâd known her well. I remembered her horror at seeing unfamiliar makeup on her own motherâs face, and it was a massive comfort to me to know she was turned out exactly as she would have liked. And my dad? My dad hadnât even cried yet. But he cried when he saw her in the same makeup style sheâd worn at their wedding. He was finally able to cry and connect to my mom, his wife and beloved, and begin to find closure, seeing the woman he knew instead of a tired, worn body that bore little resemblance to her. It mattered. To him, to me, to my momâs friends. It mattered a lot.
I donât know that I would have ended up suicidal if not for that hour alone with my mom and Charley Pride and a stack of Bare Minerals compacts. But her death hit me hard and the month that followed was a special circle of hell, and I think I might have. Every time I think of her death and her burial, I think of that video and Iâm insanely grateful it exists. (Incidentally, Nancy agreed. She said she thought she might make it an option for other families, after seeing both my response and the response of others in our family circle.)
Caitlyn knows her stuff. Watch, learn your rights, teach others to be death-positive. Life is the only occupation with a 100% mortality rate, so we might as well do it the way we want.
JUST A MINOR UPDATE:
Had lunch with my dad today. He wants a casket, and was surprised when I asked if he wanted embalmed because itâs not actually the law. He said heâll have to think about it and get back to me later, because he had no clue it wasnât requiredâit was necessary for my mom because of the long delay between her death and an open funeral/burial date, but those were extenuating circumstances.
HAVE. THESE. CONVERSATIONS.
