yeah I like bloodymary, but not because I think Grace needs to have a relationship to be valuable as a character.
I like that Simon and Grace are two half’s of the same coin.
I like that both were betrayed by the person who meant the most to them.
I like that despite everything that happened, they both chose to hope, against all odds, that they could make it out.
I like that despite everything, they chose to give themselves up entirely for something bigger than just them.
That despite having every valid reason to give up and quit, they chose to do the hard thing, not for themselves but for others. They’re both such hopeful characters that just want to live, and both their lives mattered. They didn’t matter because they had partners or children or family, their lives mattered because they’re people. Because they just did. And I think however you want to read into that dynamic: Romantic, Platonic, Queerplatonic, Aspec, Asexual, etc, is valid and beautiful in its own way.
It’s beautiful that two people who were forced to give all of themselves for everyone else, have someone who relates and shares that burden of forced choice.
