Over the last few days, I've been thinking about just how stupid this whole idea of "fictional thing x normalises thing y!" actually is and how very limited the intellectual horizon of antis has to be.
Lolisho isnβt normalising child abuse. Incest fanfic isnβt going to normalise incestual abuse, and a mafia AU isnβt going to normalise murder and violence either because all those things depicted in a fictional setting are β¨οΈconceptsβ¨οΈ. Thought constructs and ideas applied to something that is otherwise entirely inanimate.
Fiction can not normalise anything because it is not real. However, if you pick a fictional scenario and apply it to the real world, you are the problem and not the media you consumed. If you pick up a shooter game and then think it's okay to pick up a firearm and harm people, you are the problem.
Antis completely disregard fact that, at the end of the day, the choice of doing or not doing something lays with the person, and if the person in question is unable to separate fiction from reality they are, in fact, the problem.
