Endearingly strange beasts
Bronze newborn puppy
332-30 BC
Of Greek or Roman craftsmanship, discovered in Rome
The Walters Art Museum
[neolithic hottie who's been easing back into the modern dating scene]: so when he said he was a pot caster i thought he was a good artisan with a reliable income. But turns out he just talks to himself all day mostly. People don't even come to listen and he doesn't know shit about ceramics. Sometimes one of his friends is there though.
[One eyed priest-king who's been frozen in the ice for 10 000 years next to a mammoth but is starting to thaw]: girl no wayyyyy. What is slip casting a pot btw. The use of that technique (not to be confused with slipware) purportedly only dates back to the Tang Era (618–917).
[cornish tin miner from 3000 years ago]: my deposits may have played a key part in the advances of sophisticated kingdoms and states more than 4,000km (2,485 miles) away. #myDeposits.

unsolicited star stable opinions before my star rider runs out because they are fresh in my mind at the moment.
i love that the soundtracks in different areas often have their own unique musical signatures which defines the whole area in my memory. my personal favourites are the harvest counties ('on the greydew coast') and the valley of the hidden dinosaur ('the valley of the dinosaur' and 'the mysterious people of the forgetten legends'). mistfall is a close third place ('the village by the foot of the mountain'). these titles are all real mouthfuls... i also love the original starshine legacy music for nostalgia reasons. epona's soundtrack is kind of basic to me and not memorable, but i also haven't spent a lot of time in that area recently considering i only unlocked it on my new account like.. last week.
i haven't played through wildwood + tailtop village recently, so don't quote me on this, but i feel like mistfall is the last area to release which actually felt like a more grounded real place. those which have come out since lean a lot more heavily into fantasy and perhaps reflect the shifting ideals of the game. irrc the general shift sort of began around the time of mistfall's release? i am enjoying marchenghast for sure, but i've also been replaying the mistfall questline and the place feels so so different and more like other areas my comparison (silverglade, harvest counties, epona, goldenhills etc).
...thatse all for now i think.

a botanical survey of marchenghast + the dens of nicchus & mahr, because i think it's super neat that they designed unique dens for them and then scattered them through the forest. super fun detail.
this one was tricky because there's so much in marchenghast... so this is by no means exhaustive. it's really no wonder my game is so laggy there. it was actually marchenghast that first got me thinking about this, because as i was riding around i was noticing different recognizable species (eg. oaks, something like a huge hart's tongue fern, brambles with blackberries growing on them, etc).
my star rider runs out tomorrow and i plan to take a break from the game for a month or two, so i have no idea when or if i will get to doing more of these!
a botanical survey of mistfall...
been playing star stable lately and got to thinking about the different areas in game and how they are characterised by a variety of different plant species. this is a study of how many different plant models (give or take) this actually boils down to, with the view of maybe applying this kind of principle in my artwork! will do marchenghast next i think.
doing a botanical survey of marchenghast and UUUH. you see. i had assumed these cages were for beasts. but there is also straight up a human skull by this one. so uuh. hm.
