My hate for the SSO medieval camp is ruthless I'm sorry. It hasn't been better since the far superior Marchenghast update came out π
A dark epic story involving nobles, witches, a cool functioning weapon, and badass-looking beastly creatures vs a lame Renaissance Faire, you tell me
a botanical survey of marchenghast + the dens of nicchus & mahr, because i think it's super neat that they designed unique dens for them and then scattered them through the forest. super fun detail.
this one was tricky because there's so much in marchenghast... so this is by no means exhaustive. it's really no wonder my game is so laggy there. it was actually marchenghast that first got me thinking about this, because as i was riding around i was noticing different recognizable species (eg. oaks, something like a huge hart's tongue fern, brambles with blackberries growing on them, etc).
my star rider runs out tomorrow and i plan to take a break from the game for a month or two, so i have no idea when or if i will get to doing more of these!
my fav tidbit of marchenghast is how we're warned about the dangers and responsibilities of wielding a pandoric spear only to have them used casually as obstacle bars in a race 10 minutes later

Thatβs it. Thatβs the post.
I was so excited to unlock the last quests in the Marchenghast storyline. But while it was exciting, I was also left quite perplexed, because like... that's it??? Does it really just abrubtly end there? I feel like it was so anticlimactic. The story absolutely DID NOT come to any cohesive ending. I know it's because sse have been so obviously teasing that there'll be more quests in the future and it's only "the end.. for NOW! oOoOo dun dun dunnn" but seriously, c'mon man. There was SO many interesting lore points that were just never explained (what could possibly be their connection to pandoria? Tf is the sixth hammer???) and there was so many exciting things that were teased in the dialogue (going in the castle; confronting the duke; finding out what's behind the numerous mysterious doors around the place, for instance) that we never actually got to experience. And now we're gonna have to wait FOR EVERRR again. Cuz they haven't even finished the bloody MAIN quests π
In summary: where's the rest of it? πππ
Now we know Marchenghast got its shield a bit after the blight started and gotten to spread.
That mean the castle was still open to rest of Jorvik during a big part of the conflict.
So why was it only the castle folk and witches involved in the war?
Druids dislike witches with a passion, but they care about the nature and wild life. So they might not have wanted to help people that tourtured animals for fun.
I still have the headcanon that at the time Marchenghast got the shield up magic was still an known knowledge across the country and it was after that time-period that keepers started to hide the existence of magic.
Maybe the knowledge about pandorian crystal and how to use it to make lances was given by the druids or their no-magic users allies in the beginning of the conflict to help against the witches.
And when the nobles used it agains the animals was when the keepers pulled back their support. And Marchenghast became social isolated.
Could also be because of Marchenghast that Keepers decided to keep magic a secret. The occupents are mostly german I think, so if they are immigrants it could be that at that time more and more people from outside of Jorvik started to move in. And they didnt fully understand Jorviks culture and would use magic and magical articfacts however they wanted and put humans, animals and pandorians in danger. So it was decided that pandoria and magic needed to be kept away from the common people.
I still think Marchenghast castle people somehow missused pandoric crystals and that casued too much of pandorian magic to enter the area and that is what causes the blight.
