These series of pictures was taken last year for a photography class I took as part of my studies. The topic was “Human” but very open so we could get as creative as possible. I went to the Landungsbrücken (piers) - one of my favorite places in Hamburg. The title I had in mind was “Was den Mensch bewegt…” (What moves the human being). Here in the harbour of Hamburg are almost all types of transportation. There are busses, cars, bikes, boats, trains and humans walking. Only planes are missing. These are all physical aspects that can move humans. However, why are they moving? What motivates them internally? Some people come here or pass the Landungsbrücken to get to work. They need to make some money to be able to buy food, to pay rent, to survive. Other people are tourists. They came to see a new place and try different foods. They might be here to visit a friend or partner. Or they are traveling with a friend or their family. They travel to have a good time and make great memories with people they love. The Landungsbrücken are also a place where people leave for adventures. Nowadays it’s not so common anymore because people take the plane more often. However, it used to be a place where a lot of people started their adventures. The longer they are about to leave, the harder the goodbye. When the travelers come back home, their family is waiting at the piers with open arms and full of excitement to see them again and hear all their stories. They go there because they missed them. They go there because they love them.
