On the point on building a better future, which is what this post explicitly mentions, reducing poberty is good and knowledge of the early universe doesn't fucking matter.

Dog shit take. We've gotten advances in material sciences (e.g. ceramic composites), imaging, computer processing, optics, robotics (which then is adapted into things like prosthetics), human interface systems, and cellular biology all out of the space program. It should be publicly funded. I've got less nice things to say about private space ventures which should be illegal.

underappreciated also: in the wake of high profile disasters resulting in loss of human life, nasa put a TON of work into developing effective safety & risk management processes. ones that prioritize people's lives and health over profit. and they've also developed really good systems for organizational resiliency and knowledge management - meaning how to document what people know and make sure it's incorporated into the org so people can build off of it effectively even as others retire. and infosec - protecting sensitive information and dataflows from being the corrupted or used against the org. and environmental impact evaluation/climate science, again without being profit motivated.

Let's say I really wanted to reduce the number of children who die in car accidents. Car accidents are really bad, right? Nobody disagrees about that. And it would be much better for both the environment and the kids' health if they spent more time walking, or taking the bus. Perfectly reasonable. More cars off the road, safer roads, fewer kids getting hurt, healthier kids. A win-win!

Googled something about quick hydration and it suggested big jug of water, couple tbsp pickle juice, dash of lime juice.

Pleased to report that after a day of this i am not longer craving caper brine and my mouth is not dry as usual. There's some good suggestions in the notes too that I want to try.
