Im rewatching turtles in time/tale of the yokai and
his eyes are so big
so round
(pls ignore the quality I took pictures of my tv 😭)
HIM IN THIS SCENE AHSGDJADGHJASGHDHJAH
HE'S JUST A TINY LITTLE GUY REACHING OUT TO HIS MOMMY
He barely takes his eyes off her for their entire interaction-
He's like a begging puppy asking for her understanding
Also the fact that he's holding his hands in fists near chest level is a sign of tension or anxiety, which means that he's just a nervous little guy!! He's standing right next to the lady who stole his daddy's heart!!
I felt you needed a video of the tiny little hand movements because they didn't need to animate that, but the fact that they did makes it look so natural, and I will NEVER get over their subtle animation choices
How is it just now that I’m thinking about any of the guys having mother issues? Well, not issues because they love Splinter and their family. Yet I’m sure at least one of them has looked at Splinter’s photo of Teng Shen and wondered what it would’ve been like to grow up with a mother.
Splinter did everything he could and the love of a parent is unconditional — yet the love of a mother, y’know?
This is separate from the idea of growing up with their father having the love of his life, his daughter, and his four sons. 100% certain they’ve all thought of that and then became sad bc if Splinter had Tang Shen + Miwa then he never would’ve bought four turtles etc. An impossibility.
I’m talking about when they were wee ones. Little turtles, wondering what it would be like to meet the lady in the photo their dad stares at sometimes for hours. Where she’d make them sandwiches with the crusts cut off after they’re done training and give them hugs before bed.
Imagine meeting the person who’s essentially haunted the narrative you’re entire life, the person who’s kindness you only knew from stories, who was—in some ways—the only material figure in your life….
….and fully knowing that not only are you about to witness their death, but that what you are doing right now—encouraging her to stay put—is pushing her closer to her death.
Donnie can’t save her. Her death needs to happen. And he’s essentially leading her to her own death. Talking her into her grave and she doesn’t even know it. That must be brutal.
;n;
Why couldn't it have been different?
Au, where they would have been just in a different timeline, and they could have changed everything. They told Tang Shen and Hamato Yoshi that they, together with their daughter, had to flee to New York, convinced them somehow. And then, they direct them to a little pet store. They tell them they had to buy the four turtles inside there. Then they had to go into that alley and wait for strange men. Told them that they were sorry for what was about to happen, but that was what had to happen. There were threats for the world and someone had to be able to defeat them.
And then the turtles of that timeline grew up with a mutant rat dad, a mom and a daughter (whether they too got mutated or not idc, I just care about them not loosing them!!!!!)
Tang Shen and Hamato Yoshi arriving at the NYC pet store only to realize there are a lot more than four turtles in the tank:
“Do we—do we just get them all and hope for the best?”
“I—I guess?”
