It's a shame I never got to watch any other of his shows or movies, yet still ever since I first saw Anthony Stewart Head as Rupert Giles back as a teen I was immeadiately captivated by his talent and energy. I was kind of in the middle of a BtVS rewatch when he passed and it makes me so sad in such a selfish way, because I clearly didn't knew him personally but one feels like the character you loved so dearly died too.

And I know it's selfish and dumb, but that's how I feel in most of the cases.

Harley: Are you on medication?

Harley: should you be on medication?

Tony: probably

Me: That’s okay.

Person: Yeah I see them as only friends verging on siblings.

Me: Hey to each their own. You do you my dude.

Person: And when you think about it, Bob is depressed or like schizophrenic or whatever. He’s sort of mentally defective so Yelena would just have to be his caretaker/mother figure. She deserves to be with someone mature enough to have fun with her and who can understand her.

Me:

I would bet my ass that these people really think they are defending a woman when they're actually infantilizing both Yelena and Bob!

1: by assuming that it would be Yelena who would "take care" of Bob by proxy if they're in a relationship, and

2: by assuming that Bob could never take care of Yelena and support her through her own issues, reducing him to a completely useless manbaby with no responsibility.

But it’s the ableism of it all.

Bob is constantly infantilized in fandom (honestly from his antis and his fans alike) because of his mental health struggles.

Yelena is severely depressed. Yelena is an alcoholic. She was drinking herself to death. It is a serious enough struggle for her that it is one of her Shame Rooms.

But many fans conveniently forget that. It’s a very common thing in fanfics to have Yelena just casually drinking with no comment on it or it being framed as something harmful to her own mental health.

Yelena has her own struggles and issues and traumas. So why can’t Bob be there for her in the same way she might be there for him?

And again putting aside that Yelena also struggles with mental health: why should Bob being mentally ill stop him from also deserving love? Or being capable of growing? Is every person in a relationship with someone who suffers from mental illness just their nurse or caretaker. No.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that many people who make this argument, are using it to prop up the reason why they ship Yelena ( even Bob weirdly), with different characters. I saw one person, in the same breath, claiming Bob was “too immature” due to his illness to be in a relationship with Yelena, while also saying of the character they did ship Yelena with “when they mature a little, they will be the perfect person to be there and understand Yelena”
