🚨 ! MINOR SPOILERS FOR BACKROOMS MOVIE ! 🚨
Ok, so I saw the movie last night and I wanna have my little yap sesh about the theming because I thought it was interesting
I think the movie is inherently about mental health / memory (maybe to be specific deteriorating memories? idk) in its theming (I mean there was literally a song from everywhere at the end of time in it) BUT
I feel like there could be some unintentional themes about AI generation, AI usage, and the negative effects it can have on a person in it? The way the rooms fail to generate things & ESPECIALLY the people gave the same uncanny feeling of those early AI generated pictures from years back. Clark feeds info (or maybe memories?) to the rooms and it feeds into his delusions (someone in the reblogs mentioned it being similar to AI chatbots and YES, I absolutely see it), then him eventually wanting to stay there feels like him slipping into AI psychosis. I don't actually think it was intentional? Maybe they took inspo but the parallels didn't slip past me
Also, I really liked the sound design in the film, a lot of wacky, weird, noises that I enjoyed
