My comeback to being told "you don't look autistic" is to say something like "yeah well I spent the past 26 years (or however old I am at the time) learning how to hide it"
I haven't really had an opportunity to use it on a stranger but the day is bound to come
That IS a good comeback
I once, at school, completely missed the rude intent of that question โ because autism โ and said something along the lines of:
"Well, yeah, because autism isn't a condition with distinctive facies. If I had Down syndrome, or Sanfillipo syndrome, or something like Turner syndrome, you would be able to tell from looking at me, because they all have distinctive facial features they cause!"
And the guy just looked at me as if to say
"Okay I see it now"
