swifties always going on the "you just hate women" defense like first of all Taylor Swift is not a woman she's an unskippable ad
Thereās a reason I call the āyouāre just criticizing [famous woman] because you hate womenā the Swiftie Defense.
Didnāt realize that all of my actions were free from judgment because Iām a woman. Guess that applies to the likes of Laura Loomer and Caitlyn Jenner, too. /s
"the Hadestown proshot exceeds box office expectations" truly, who could have predicted fans going repeated times, to see the musical whose entire concept is about the musical repeating
Hating how Nolan's Odyssey looks on the basis of being into Classics, but chuds have made it a culture war thing, so now I'm fighting for my life arguing that the issue isn't that Nolan cast trans and black people as gods and heroes, it's that he cast those people and then put them in dogshit costumes

reading a historical romance novel and reflecting on the way these stories often present woke nobility for the contemporary reader. a big thing is servants. you canāt not have servants in those times but many modern readers think ābut I would never have servants. it would be so weird to have servantsā and in order to make the protagonists of the story more relatable they are actually friends with the servants. but flip your perspective and think of it from the side of the servants. wouldnāt it be so awful if your boss was always trying to be friends with you. a really common thing youāll see is the woke baronet having tea in the kitchen with the servants bc heās not like other baronets. but what if your boss wanted to hang out and talk during your lunch break every day. not so charming when you think about it that way

ātwo peopleā put some respect on my mothersā Beatrice Michelle Mattel and Yekaterina Petrovna Zamolodchikovaās names, thank you very much
and you know what? i am REALLY sick of these ads that are openly mocking people for being concerned about the products theyāre selling.
Amazonās super bowl ad where the Alexa mocks Chris Hemsworth for being worried about giving spy software control over his entire life. Waymoās ad with the intro āthe robots are coming!ā mocking people who are rightfully extremely concerned about sharing the road with, or riding in, self-driving cars.
i donāt know, itās just genuinely insane to me. āOh, you have legitimate concerns about our shitty product? sounds like youāre just lame!!!ā like what kind of āquiet part out loudā marketing is that?
I joined a CSA this summer, and while the prices are unbeatable for the volume of produce Iām getting, Iām fucking drowning in fresh vegetables. (First-world problems, amirite?)
So Thursdays have become something of a crazefest for me, what with photography class and sewing class and CSA pickup. Thatās how Iāve come to be making zucchini salsa, tomato jam, basil syrup, and yet another batch of pickles⦠at 10pm.
Itās more fun than Iām making it sound.
This weekendās pursuits:
Zucchini jam - oddly enough, all immediately available online recipes called for Kool-Aid, and I had a long-lingering packet in the pantry, so it turned out to be āstrawberryā jam sans the big gummy bits of fruit that I loathe.
Tomato sauce, as opposed to tomato jam. I cannot recommend straining out the juice beforehand to make passata more highly.
Watermelon-basil sorbet with last weekās syrup. The rind on this one was kinda crappy, so Iām going to make pickles out of the next melon rind.
An attempt to replicate the āthicklesā made by a local home pickler. These spicy-sweet pickles are about 3/4 of an inch long.
A massive quantity of vegetable broth from freezer scraps.
Red currant ice cream.
Zucchini butter.
Pickled peppers; Iām hoping for the shishitos to come out more or less like pepperoncinis.
Potato salad.
forget everything anyone has ever told you on the matter the truest marker of adulthood is starting to hear the siren call of high quality kitchenware
to be clear you SHOULD buy that cast iron pan and you SHOULD buy that knife set and you SHOULD buy that fancy rice cooker and you SHOULD buy that novelty mug. high quality kitchenware is always worth it youāre literally gonna be using that almost every day
This seems like a good post to include this link on:
One buyout firm quietly collected Pyrex, Corelle, Instant Pot, and Oneida. Farberware is a name on a 200-year lease. And the pans still wort
Talking about popular kitchenware companies undergoing enshittification, and gives you a list of brands towards the end that are more reliable.

hot take possibly? but i actually think itās okay for things to be marketed for adults. itās literally okay if things arenāt suitable for children. i feel like we are losing the plot
Correct. Furthermore: children bending or breaking the rules to get a peek at something that's not intended for them is a part of growing up.
It's so weird when people are at the point of chronically online-ness that they think kids trying to get into stuff for Adults or Teens is like. Abusive or traumatizing. I mentioned getting into Camp Camp (FUCKING CAMP CAMP) at age 12 once and someone went off on how I must have been groomed or some shit and that was unacceptable. No man I just was 12 and wanted to be edgy. Also CC is like the most heartfelt and tween-friendly of the adult comedies typically talked about so idfk why that one esp was a big deal.

you used to be able to go into a tag after you watched a little movie and find a gorgeous little gifset or photoset or 12 and now you're lucky if you can wade through all the xreader posts to find even one we used to be a website
Felt like this shouldnāt be left in the tags:
Image Description: a series of tumblr tags. For this ID, hashtags are replaced with punctuation for easier reading. The tags read:
I feel like the xreader crowd⦠needs to be told theyāre in the wrong site. Tumblr is not for people with main character energy. Tumblr is for people who would watch another couple argue down the street and then when the couple hit a breakthrough and the tone changes, the tumblr user grabs the hand of the person next to them so they can watch the strangers together. To see if they kiss or rob a bank or something.

While I sort of get the impulse, it does always get my back up when people talk about something like Animorphs with this attitude of 'omgggg remember these books, how on EARTH were we allowed to read these books, they're so grim and dark and violent and tragic, no adults could possibly have known what they actually contained or they'd have been banned.'
And like. Allowing for the fact that there absolutely are adults who think every distressing topic ever should be banned from children's literature - they're children's books. You were allowed to read them when you were a kid because they were written for kids. Bridge to Terabithia is also a children's book. So is Where the Red Fern Grows and Old Yeller and Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry and The Giver and loads of other books that deal with heavy, difficult topics. It is appropriate and good for children to have books about these things that are tailored to their reading levels and it genuinely really bugs me when people act like they're somehow not really for kids because bad things happen in them or they end tragically.
