Okay this is not part 5 but I couldnât get this concept outta my head
N2N- Best Friends Brother!Gabe Goodman x fem!reader (Ik most people hc him as gay but in my mind he is a LETHAL bisexual. No I wonât elaborate. Also I donât think the Goodmanâs would let Nat have boys sleepover. Anyway let me shut up and get to business.)
After dinner I head up to my room, turning on the TV for background noise while I do my homework. Just as I start my English essay, Natalie comes barging into my room.
I roll my eyes and turn towards her, âUhh do you knock? What do you want?â
âJust letting you know (Name)âs staying over tomorrow.â
I tease her, âAww look at you actually having friends over- wait (Name)? Like hot (Name)? Sheâs staying over?â
âDonât even think about it. I canât have you embarrass me. Donât talk to her, donât look at her, donât even breathe near her. Tomorrow, you are to make yourself as scarce as possible. (Name) is off limits.â She glares at me.
I scoff out a laugh, âOh Natalie, you donât need me to embarrass you, you can do that all on your own.â I mock her before sighing, âBut fine, Iâll behave⌠maybeâ
âIâm serious! Off. Limits.â
âYeah yeah, I heard you the first time. Get out of my room.â I wave her off.
She huffs before leaving, shutting the door behind her.
I mutter to myself, âSheâs not the boss of me. Iâll talk to whoever I want.â
I wait for Natalie outside the band hall, scrolling on my phone.
She walks out holding her backpack, Gabe behind her.
âLetâs go loser and⌠not loserâ he walks ahead of us. We follow after him and Natalie sits in the backseat with me, âYay, Iâve always wondered what itâs like to be an uber driver.â He comments sarcastically.
I stifle a laugh and Natalie just shakes her head, âDonât laugh, you canât let him think heâs funny.â
âIâm hilarious actually so she can laugh all she wants.â He responds smugly.
She rolls her eyes before turning back to me, âSo, did you decide if youâre going to homecoming?â
âOf course Iâm going to homecoming.â I answer immediately. âI mean Iâm not going with Zach but it was never a question of whether or not I was going.â
âYouâre going to!â I point out.
âYeah but youâre going because you want to, Iâm only going to shut Henry up.â She defends herself. âWhy arenât you going with Zach?â
âApparently he only asked me cause Stella said no and also Iâm straight up not into him.â I shrug, âHave you decided what youâre gonna wear yet?â
âYeah my dress is like a dark green, Iâll show you when we get to my room.â
âI havenât decided if I want this pale yellow one with the off the shoulder sleeves or this maroon one with no sleeves.â I show her pictures of the two options on my phone. âThe yellow one is like cutesy fairy princess vibes but the red one is super hot and I love the bow.â
âWell do you wanna be cute or do you wanna be hot?â
âI donât know. I love the color of the yellow one but I feel like itâs gonna make me look box shaped. The maroon one I love the style of but I think itâs too dark.â
âWhy donât you just get the maroon one in a different color?â Gabe chimes in from the front seat.
âThey donât have my size in the other colors.â
âSo get it altered? Youâve got a month.â He states in a duh tone.
ââŚYouâre right. Thanksâ I hum.
âDonât know why youâre worried anyway, you could show up wearing a literal garbage bag and still look better than half the girls there.â He compliments me but he says it like itâs a fact that heâs annoyed he has to point out. He even rolls his eyes when he says it.
âUhh thanks? I thinkâ I tilt my head slightly, a bit confused.
âIgnore him, he was dropped⌠a lot.â Natalie waves him off.
Eventually we make it to their house, walking inside.
âHey Mr and Mrs Goodman.â I greet them politely.
âHi (Name), good to see you again.â Dan responds.
âThanks again for having me.â
âOh youâre welcome anytime, weâre just glad Natalieâs finally coming out of her shell.â Diana waves off my thanks. âWhy donât you guys head on upstairs, weâll call you when dinnerâs ready.â
We nod and head up to Natalieâs room. We change into pajamas before sitting on her bed to keep up the conversation. Of course, we start with gossip.
âDid you hear Maliaâs pregnant?â
Natalie gasps, âReally?! By who?â
âApparently some guy from Mayfield.â I shrug
âDamn, you know Khloe and Elijah broke up?â
âYeah, she was talking to his homeboy, Miles, behind his back.â I shake my head. âYou know whoâs still together though?â I roll my eyes
âPayton and Zoe?â She guesses
âYes! I canât even feel bad for her at this point. What do you mean heâs continuing to fuck girls behind your back- not even behind your back cause you know heâs doing it, and then heâs playing in your face constantly, donât even treat you good, and youâre still with him.â
âShe should take a page out of my book. I break up with Henry like once a month.â
I scoff, âBullshit, you say youâre breaking up and he says, âNahhh, love you though, talk to you tomorrow.â and then you do infact talk to him tomorrow. You and Henry are locked in, you just donât wanna admit it.â
ââŚOkay maybe you have a point.â We both burst out laughing.
After a few hours of talking and laughing, Gabe comes in to tell us dinnerâs ready before walking downstairs. We get up and go down too.
Sitting around the table we all have typical conversation. Blah blah blah how was your day? Blah blah blah plans for the weekend/ rest of the night? Blah blah blah âGabe if you donât stop staring at my friend I will stab you with this forkâ.
âIâm not doing anything. Jeez, and you said I was dropped a lot.â He responds defensively.
âYouâre practically drooling.â Natalie argues.
âMom, you asked if I was snorting coke but clearly Natâs the one you gotta worry about.â He gestures at her mockingly while looking at their mom.
âIâm not on drugs!â She defends, exasperated.
âFine, maybe you just âslippedâ out of my hands a few too many times during my Lion King obsession.â He shrugs, still taunting her.
She groans, looking at their parents, âHeâs not 18 yet, itâs not too late to put him up for adoption.â
Dan sighs, âYou two, be nice and eat your food.â
They stop arguing and go back to eating, the rest of the meal goes by normally and Natalie and I head back up to her room. We curl up in her bed and start watching Saw.
âI will literally never not be pissed that he didnât go back for him. My goat Adam didnât deserve to die, literally all he did was be broke.â I complain after we finish the 3rd one and take a break.
âYeah justice for Adam. The 3rd one is probably my favorite, itâs just super well written.â I nod in agreement and she adds, âHey, go get snacks before we start the 4th one.â
âWhy canât you go get em, itâs your house.â
âYeah but I donât wanna⌠ooh make popcorn.â
I roll my eyes, already getting up, âFine.â I head downstairs, her parents are already in bed and Gabe is sitting on the couch watching House.
He glances back when he hears footsteps and I notice him perk up slightly when he notices itâs me. âNatalie kick you out already?â He jokes
âNope, she sent me to grab snacks because she didnât wanna get up. Apparently Saw 1, 2 and 3 left her too emotionally distraught to use her legs.â I answer, walking into the kitchen.
The first thing I do is put a bag of popcorn in the microwave like she asked. While thatâs cooking I walk back over to the snack cabinet, thinking of what else I need to grab. Caught up in snack gathering, I donât notice Gabe approaching until heâs right behind me, leaning against the counter.
âSo⌠you really donât have a homecoming date?â He tilts his head slightly
Damn heâs fine- No, no, no. I turn back to the snack cabinet to avoid looking at him. âNope. Who are you going with?â
âI dunno, I havenât asked anyone and no oneâs asked me. Iâll probably end up going as a group with friends.â I feel him step closer.
I nod, wishing this popcorn would cook faster.
He continues, âWhy donât you have a date? I mean sure you donât wanna go with Zach but thereâs no way heâs the only person whoâs asked you.â
My breath hitches when he moves even closer, his chest hovering just inches away from my back. I shake my head, âIâm not nearly as popular as you seem to think I am. I mean Iâm popular enough to be asked but not enough to be anyoneâs first choice. The only people who have asked me so far are only asking because someone else said no and Iâm not about to be a backup option. Iâd rather go alone than be asked in a âhere, damnâ way.â
He physically recoils in surprise/ confusion, âThe only guys who have asked you to homecoming are rejects? Thereâs no way.â
I shrug it off, âIâm not popular in the same way you are, Iâm only popular by association. Guys look at me as the âclose enoughâ option.â The microwave beeps and I go grab the popcorn. âOh look at that, guess I better be heading back up now.â I walk past him but he catches my wrist.
I freeze, thinking to myself âDonât even think about it (Name), this is your best friendâs brother. Get it together. Keep it casual.â
He smirks slightly, âWoah, your heartâs beating pretty fastâ
Lie! âUh my heart doesnât beat.â Lie better than that!
He laughs at that, turning me back to face him and dropping my wrist, âReally? Thatâs what youâre going with?â
âYup.â I nod with fake confidence.
He brings up his other hand up to brush a bit of hair out of my face, âYour face is burning up too.â
ââŚnoâ I answer hesitantly
âNo.â I double down. âNo itâs not.â
He hums, âI wonder whatâs got you so flustered?â
âI just get really passionate- about popcorn. It really⌠it really butters my biscuit, you know?â Oh my gosh someone shoot me.
âOh does it? Popcorn? Butters your biscuit? Really?â He tilts his head, leaning closer, inches away from me.
âMhm, butters it right it, tickles my fancy if you will.â I nod, failing miserably at acting casual.
He leans past my shoulder to whisper in my ear, âYouâre a remarkably bad liar.â I think I feel my heart stop, âDidnât your parents teach you about âhonesty being the best policyâ?â
I stutter a bit before opting to just stay quiet. Maybe itâs like Jurassic Park and if I donât move or make noise he canât see me.
He leans back, still standing in my space just enough to keep the tension. âYou know, Natalie isnât down here, you donât have to worry about her right now. Itâs just you,â he moves his hand to ghost over my waist, âand me.â
I shake my head, holding onto my last bit of resolve, âNo, no, no. I am a good friend.â
âSo? What does that have to do with anything?â His hands firmly rest on my waist now.
âSo Iâm not gonna do anything that would majorly upset her. She nearly had a stroke over you looking at me. This- she might actually murder us.â I explain
âDefine âthisâ?â He tilts his head coyly
âThis- whatever is happening right now. Or not happening, this is not happening.â
âWell nothing is happening-yet.â
I falter for a second before shaking my head again, âNo, no yet. No ever. Sheâs my best friend, sheâs your sister, we- I-â
âYou know, Iâm hearing a lot of âI canâtâ from you but I havenât heard a single âI donât want toâ.â
Shit. âI- donât⌠want to.â Nice one (Name), that sounded totally believable.
âOh yeah?â He gives me that cocky, annoying(ly hot) smirk, âThen pull away.â He even pulls his hands back, crossing his arms.
My feet stay planted to the ground and I let out a deep breath, âYouâre awful.â
âAnd youâre still standing here. By your bullshit logic, that makes you just as awful.â
âItâs not bullshit logic, itâs very rational-â He cuts me off with a quick kiss to my lips.
He pulls back and feigns a shocked look, âOh my goodnessâŚSee how we didnât both instantly die?â He looks around, âNatalie?⌠I just kissed your best friendâŚâ He pretends to be listening for a response, âHey Natalie, donât say anything if youâre cool with me doing it again.â He turns back to me with a smug smile, âSee, weâre good. She clearly doesnât mind.â
âYouâre an idiot.â I cave, pulling him back into another kiss, much longer this time.
I feel him smirk against my lips, drawing me closer. One hand slides to the back of my neck, deepening the kiss. I pull back for air, muttering against him, âNatalieâs totally gonna murder us if-â
âNatalieâs not the boss of me.â He leans back in for more. My mind goes blank of everything outside of him. âAlso, Iâm pretty sure you just heard her agree that sheâs cool with it.â He jokes between kisses, I feel him press me against the counter, crowding into my space even more.
Finally! Iâve thought about this more times than I can count since the first time she came over. Natalieâs lucky I waited this long.
This, this is better than imagining, this is real. I can feel the softness of her skin beneath my fingertips. Iâm actively breathing in the scent of her hair product and that lotion she wears all the time, not to mention tasting her lips on mine.
My head is swimming and it feels like Iâm drowning in her but honestly, I canât complain. My hand on her waist slides down to her hip as I press her against the counter, being as close to her as physically possible.
I pull back when I feel myself starting to get carried away, resting my forehead against hers instead. âSo hypothetically if I asked you to homecoming what would you say?â
âAre you crazy?! You know how that would go? âHey Nat, I know I said I didnât have a homecoming date but Iâm actually going with your brother. Oh how did that happen? Well he asked me after I made out with him in your kitche-why are you reaching in your pocket?â And then she literally murders me.â
I shake my head in disbelief, âOkay let me rephrase. What would you say if I asked you in real life and not crazy town which is the only place that would happen?â
âI keep the same answer, are you crazy?â Sheâs so stubborn, which I gotta admit, itâs kinda cute.
âNope, my parents had us tested.â I half-joke before rolling my eyes when she doesnât budge, âFine, since youâre sooo scared of Natalie being mad at you, what would you say if she was cool with it?â
âPsh, in some alternate dimension where Natalie is even remotely okay with that, I would say yes.â She concedes, rolling her eyes like i asked her the most impossible hypothetical ever.
âOkay, great goodnight.â I nod, heading back to the living room before she can change her mind. I get Natalie to tell (Name) sheâs not going to murder her and/or never talk to her again if she goes out with me and boom sheâs all mineâŚ. Not in a creepy possessive misogynistic way, ew.
I stand in the kitchen for another minute before rushing back upstairs with the snacks. I stand outside her bedroom for a moment, stealing my nerves before I walk in. Fortunately for me, Natalieâs completely knocked out when I walk in. I sigh, scrolling on my phone and stress eating the popcornâŚ
What have I gotten myself into?
Okay this was so much fun to write. I lowkey wanna make this a series but idk if I should start another series without finishing the other one.
