Semi-niche character archetype that I really like is The "Hedonist". Guy who has a decadent and ostensibly pleasure-based lifestyle but is very clearly not actually enjoying themselves. Guy who treats themselves to only the finest wines and refuses to spare any expense, but doesn't actually like wine. Guy who is doing all the stereotypical hedonist behaviors and is pretending to be a stereotypical hedonist because they don't actually know what they want but they want to feel Something and are trying to fill that void in them with the stuff that's Supposed to work, the stuff that works for other people, makes them feel something, and then privately wonders or worries about why it isn't working for them. Or else they do very much know what they want but it's scary or in some way not acceptable for them to want, so they indulge but only in the things they think they're supposed to indulge in. Hedonism as an act to cover up the fact that they're denying themselves something else. Can anyone else hear me is this thing even on.
