Look, I have characters I hate. I have ships I dislike very much. But I'm not the type to go onto other people's posts or into their inboxes to say that to them about the characters then like.
I don't care for it. I see it too often that trolling ass anons will come into someone's inbox to say stupid things like "this character should die, they're useless, they're only carried by shipping/or whatever else". I think it's really immature and pathetic and honestly that person has a really boring life.
If I don't say myself that I hate a character or ship, I don't care for your slander on said character or ship because 9/10 you're just going to be an ass.
If I put a positive Miruko post out, don't need you to come in with "well, she sucks" and some other bullshit.

These notes make me so fucking sad dude. Yes, this behavior is rooted in homophobia, but it's also rooted in the fact that men are socialized to never seriously express emotional vulnerability or affection for one another. They must make it into a joke to avoid being taken seriously and therefore made fun of. It's all rooted in homophobia, of course, and the fear of seeming gay, but it is also extremely damaging. The lack of nuance or sympathy in this conversation is highly disappointing.
Yes, even adults are affected by the messages that society sends to us. Turning into an adult does not automatically mean that you suddenly understand all of your internal biases or behavioral patterns.
Also, unlearning shit is HARD even when you know you have to work on it. The fear of ridicule doesn't go away just because you know it's fucking stupid. That's not how being a person works.

My Korra rewatch is almost over, and I'm up to "Kuvira's Gambit". I've always loved the moment Korra comes up with a plan to kidnap Baatar Jr and, for the first time in the show, Tenzin agrees to it without protest. This was the moment we finally saw Korra become the leader she was born to be. Also, that stealth mission on the airship? 💙💙💙 One of the coolest scenes in the show.

it feels like the effort to categorize slang as AAVE and not 'gen z' or 'gen alpha' slang has really petered out. it feels like we stopped talking about digital blackface in an era where the administration is posting ai-generated videos of black women who speak and act like exaggerated stereotypes and it frustrates me because we all have a responsibility to understand our generation's role in normalizing this type of racist shit for kids today. this needs to be addressed!
Black people will never stop talking about this, but when we are on sites such as Tumblr, where so many of the white people feel that not only are they not racist, but that calling their racist behavior racist is emotional warfare on them, they will make sure to keep Black voices as silenced as possible.

So I was only 4/5 years old when the Queen of the Damned movie came out, so I never really bothered to watch it. Never heard too much good out of it other than Aaliyah.
But from my bare understanding of Akasha's motives, I do think it's hilarious that Anne Rice wrote the worst men on the planet for two whole books, and then wrote a female character whose antagonistic role is "eradicate all men" 🤣 she said "look! She's gonna kill your blorbos! You don't want THAT do you??" 🤣
And we get to watch said antagonist be Black not once, but twice 🤣 oh the fandom misogynoir is gonna be unreal when that full season drops, huh 😭
The thing is that they never even established what her plans were in the movie. I watched the movie first and was like "Oh, that's a pretty fun movie, I'ma read the books." And I got the books, and I spent many years fascinated with this universe, but watching the movie after reading the books, it was one of the worse movies from a book. Mostly, I was pissed off that Akasha wasn't fully realized and the relationship she had with Lestat wasn't at all covered fully, AND they never explained why and how the vampires that were gathered were gathered.
And also, just forcing a Lestat and Jesse romance? Oh, that pissed me off, after knowing the real story and how they didn't even fucking know each other AND that they didn't give me Lestat ABSOLUTELY DOWN AND DEPRESSED when Akasha was gone! I get mad every time and loving Aaliyah never rectified that for me.
I have this unpopular opinion that Anne Rice stories need to be full of white people. At the very least, they need to be whitish for these stories to feel good. Everyone is horrible and you get to pick your favorite terror. Mine was Akasha and Lestat.
This gets really tricky getting into the show and adding in so many POC. Louis becoming Black was a bit of a self inflicted bullet wound to their heads. You can't treat Black Louis like Book Louis, because his fan base is Black people who will call you to the carpet. You can't treat Black Claudia like Book Claudia. You... need to treat Akasha closer to the book than the movie did, but it is a bad look when you got a writers' room problem when it comes to these characters you turned Black without knowing how the Black fan base would respond to a story full of villains and victims.
I don't think many Black people cared before they cast Black actors, and they thought they could do something colorblind with them and that's just not possible after having intoduced the racism that was created when they made these characters Black.
Back to MY most important thing about Akasha sitting for thousands of years and coming to the "fuck these niggas" conclusion that she does... I didn't like how the movie just made it like she wanted to be running around doing murders juat because she could, when she literally not only felt strong conviction that culling the population of men would help the world, but also she was caring enough that she wanted to protect Lestat's loved ones, along with hers that she still had.
They really made my girl act like some bloodthirsty tyrant. And she was IN HER YOUTH, but by the time she got up and went out on her mission, she had got her shit together and had a whole plan and even sat down with the vampires that she intended to share her world with. Now... some of them had good reason to be like "Girl, hell no," but I detest how against Akasha that movie put Lestat, and also how bad that man was at acting. Ugh. That fucking movie.
Look, I always tell people just be honest about the material they love, if they absolutely must stomach issues from the creators or something else while loving it... It sounds like this is your One, Auntie 🤣
