Something that I think we need to call out more in fandoms is the blatant racism towards black female characters, especially when they are love interests. I feel that everytime there is a black female love interest, the fandom completely neglects her and rushes to ship the MC with another character that is most of the time white. And then racist fans try to hide behind “oh well I just don’t ship them!” and it’s pathetic. Adding onto this I think that a lot of ppl in fandoms try to deny/ignore that female black characters can be feminine. People try to default being black as an inherently masculine thing when not only is it not true but it is just downright racist. Let black characters be fun and feminine and let them be loved!!!

As I said, quietly writing in my notepad, I was approached by a white male attendee. He did not ask if it was a good time to approach me; he did not seem to care that I was obviously working. He just sat next to me and said, "oh good, now I can talk to you. I have a question." The man did not wait for my consent to the conversation. He just dove in.
He described a few of the political activism groups he's involved in, mostly around environmentalism. ...And he was sure that, just like every other event he had attended, it would be populated exclusively with white people. He would love to see more people of color at these events, he said, but they were nowhere to be found. "Why," he asked me in conclusion, "don't people of color care more about important political issues?"
Many white men see a political landscape dominated by white men and think it is that way because white men are just more politically minded. They think that the absence of women and people of color from powerful rooms is due to self-selection.
They do not question how unwelcoming the room they have built might be. They do not question whether or not the discussions they are having in that room are inclusive and generate productive discussions for women and people of color. They don't ask if there are other, equally important conversations happening in other rooms. And they don't even bother to ask if anyone unlocked the door.
They look at the room and say that women and people of color aren't in it because women and people of color aren't interested. Then they cite this supposed disinterest as proof that women and people of color are too unqualified to even be invited in."
Chapter 6- Mediocre, Ijeoma Oluo
For a Tumblr-specific example, this is why if you don't "see" Black people in your fandom spaces, there's a reason for that. It usually means the space is unwelcome at best, actively hostile at worst. You just don't perceive it bc it doesn't directly affect your entertainment.

MINNOW PIN! TINY SILVER FISHIE! I'm in love with how these turned out. I want to wear like 10 on a jacket and have a school of fish with me wherever I go. Hard to photograph but they look amazing in person! Sometimes a simple design really stands out~~~~ In my shop!

you have to preface things like this with disclaimers that you are not pro-ai for people incapable of critical thinking but: its so awesome how much people post about AI having no soul and lacking humanity and merely mimicking some sort of innate Humanness while failing to address or contend with the fact that a lot of people are seemingly making work indistinguishable from the statistical average spit up by a computer.
ppl could ABSOLUTELY churn out bland slop that's trying very hard to scan as though it's legit way before AI showed up, and i stopped trying to tell if things were AI generated and started just...thinking more about whatever i was looking at. exploring citations rather than just looking at them, thinking about what's being said and if disparate thoughts connect to each other, trying to engage with the substance of the work. if there was little to no substance, then i could move on, and i'm sure a significant chunk of that was AI, but more importantly, it wasn't worth my time.
i genuinely and unironically hope that this is an unintended but positive outcome in a post-AI world. that people abandon attempts to determine if something is AI or not and are instead forced to think "what is there to like about this and why do i like it?"
