"we detected a mature post" yeah I'm in my 30s
I don't care how bad life gets i'm not watching Love Island
i have understood so many things about online leftist culture by the fact that when i said "your local community has people you will morally and politically disagree with but you cannot lock them out of accessing any tangible service you’re organising" one of the tags responding said "this isn’t about proshippers in here you’re not welcome" like. folks. focus with me. some of us are homeless here.
There's a disconnect happening here because the primary function of social media for most casual users is to form a circle of friends around the usual things that friendships are built on: shared interests and lifestyles and ideas of what is important and what is unacceptable. When people are mainly doing leftism on social media, this encourages thinking of leftism as centered around establishing high-minded social clubs.
For anyone who still isn't getting it from someone who helps people IRL: There's a difference between whom you're helping to feed at the mealshare and whom you're choosing to hang out with for fun after the mealshare. You don't have to invite a hungry person with opinions you don't like to play board games with you, but you do have to help keep them from starving if you're serious about leftist organizing.

white people will literally be like if u arent nice to me Im going to become a nazi. and think they’re making a great argument
this stupid shit has been around for so long and it’s crazy to me there are still people with enough rocks in their brain to believe it. “Oughhhhh if you aren’t nice to you oppressors they’ll become bigots instead of allies” if someone’s support for marginalized groups hinges entirely on whether or not that group is niceys, they’re by definition not effective or useful allies and, by admission of this argument, an active danger to the communities theyre supposed to be allied with because they can Enter Bigot Mode the second they become displease
anon hate economy is in shambles they're sending me cartoon criminal with a striped black and white shirt and burlap sack with a dollar sign on it ass anons now
when you're mean to me online this is what you look like btw
Love that you’re making it clear exactly what physical demands this job has, but could you possibly, potentially, phrase it differently?

So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.
I got the idea from cowcatchers old locomotives used to have.
Anyways, yesterday I uploaded the model to Thingiverse, and just hours after uploading it, the Community Relationship Manager of the whole website left a comment suggesting I enter the model into a competition that's currently being held on the site.
So I did... and now it's in third place not even a day later. First place is $500, but the competition still has a month to go.
Then the Community Manager contacted me again, telling me they want to feature my model in an upcoming design promotion.
Just, what is happening? I mostly made this thing for myself in, like, an hour, and now it's suddenly super popular? This is all a little bit overwhelming 😵💫
Other models I worked on for weeks didn't get nearly as popular. I swear, it's impossible to predict what people will like.
Anyways, if you want to print the wheel guards yourself, you can get the model here or here.
I also made a quiet version you can stick furniture felt pads on.
People love simple, extremely practical things. I hope you win!

i’m going to be really honest with you guys i think the tendency to read the absolute worst possible intentions into every action you don’t agree with is getting too automatic and it’s eating you from the inside out
I think the psychology of Jeremy Renner is very funny, like not as an individual but as a specific location within society. I’m thinking about what Parkins (and Engels and etc) said about the petit-bourgeoisie being marked by a deep abiding terror over the instability of their own fortunes, that unlike the aristocracy there is not the same institutional guarantee of intergenerational class reproduction, and so the middle classes are terrified of every shadow on the wall for fear it could ruin them financially. So strong is this terror that this is a subjectivity inhabited by successful and unsuccessful people alike. And I’m also thinking about that Indigo F video essay about the gaylor phenomenon where they talk about how people who like extremely popular things (like the MCU) feel a deep insecurity over their own mainstream tastes and want to position themselves as being cool in the culture (thus a potential explanation for the gaylor phenomenon as a post-hoc justification for liking the most popular musician on the planet).
And so combining these two things together, to be an actor in something so dominant as the MCU, there also needs to be a similar bourgeois terror/hegemonic insecurity right ? We all heard what Martin Scorsese said about those movies. But at least if you’re Robert Downey Jr you’re something approaching a real actor on top of being one of the A-list stars in said hegemony, so there’s a certain level of security there. But Jeremy Renner is Hawkeye. You are marginal gentry in the McMansion kingdom, but you don’t even get the security of being gentry, you’re just bourgeois. So you create an app themed after yourself. The Jeremy Renner app. That is an articulation of a deep unshakeable terror at your own existence. Every time he appears on camera you can see the horror in his eyes no matter how well he tries to mask it
