“Was it casual when you took off your cross necklace to kiss me?”

Mello had a hard time knowing he liked men. It was wrong. It was unnatural. It was against the Bible.

And yet?

He couldn’t stop himself from loving Matt no matter how hard he tried.

It was 2 in the morning and they were both high. Matt was on his back with his arms propping him up on couch. Mello straddled his torso and started to lean in. Their lips just barely brushed against one another before Mello abruptly pulled away.

“This is so gross. So wrong.” Mello whispered. He pulled off his rosary necklace before closing his eyes to place a small kiss to it and muttering, “I’m so sorry” against it. He let out a sigh and reached past Matt to set it down on the side table

“Do you really have to do that Mells?”

“You wouldn’t get it Matt. You just don’t understand that what we’re doing is a horrible thing.”

Mello got himself comfortable again before finally leaning back down and kissing Matt. He felt starved. This felt so wrong but so right. Why does something that makes him so happy have to also make him feel so guilty? So scared? So disgusted?

I love the idea of Mello dragging Matt to church and forcing him to partake in religious activities. I head cannon Matt as an atheist but I also think that he wouldn't really care where Mello brings him because he enjoys the quality time. The problem always arises when Matt can't keep himself from being a distraction or breaking rules he deemed as stupid.

As Matt's stepping out of the car he reaches to grab his

DS but is stopped with a slap to his hand.

"What the hell was that for, Mello!?"

"You're not bringing that shit to church."

"Why can't | bring in my DS? What if I only play when the leader dude isn't talking?"

"Because it's disrespectful! And you shouldn’t refer to the pastor as ‘the leader dude’"

"Well I need something to do with my hands. And you’re the one always dragging me to this stuff when you know how I get, so really this is your fault.”

“Matt, you better shut the fuck up before I make you.”

“Damn, no need to get so bitchy Mels.”

Mello lead the way to their normal spot in the very last row. He looked to Matt before sighing.

“Take that off.”

“Take what off?” Matt asked defensively, raising his hands up.

“You know what.”

“Fine” Matt said as he let out a dramatic groan before taking his goggles off and setting them down next to him

“No goggles in church has gotta be one of the stupidest rules in the history of fuckn’ ever,” he mumbled, which Mello being as close to him as he was he heard. Mello gave Matt a harsh kick.

“Ow! What the fuck!”

“Don’t yell swear words in church!” Mello whisper yelled”

“So swearing and wearing goggles is some big bad blasphemous thing but when you kick me as hard as ya fuckn’ can everything is all sunshine and rainbows?”

People were starting to stare.

“Yes. Now shut up and stop being obnoxious. You’re drawing attention to us which is the last thing we need right now.” Matt rolled his eyes but figured it wasn’t worth arguing and just started fidgeting with one of the small pencils provided.

During the sermon Matt kept bouncing his leg which drove Mello absolutely insane. Every time Matt would do it Mello would stop it by putting his hand on his knee, but that would only be effective for so long. Eventually Matt just couldn’t stay still. This felt like hell. So he got up.

That was it.

He just stood and walked out to the parking lot to do a few laps before returning and sitting back down by Mello, and at this point he was livid. Mello was never heavy on respecting others, but when it came to religion? You would think he’s a different person entirely.

As soon as they left the building and started walking to the car Mello shoved him.

“Why the hell are you so difficult? I don’t ask for much! I just need you to do your job and show up to church every once and while so maybe, just maybe your soul can be saved!”

“Have you ever thought maybe my soul doesn’t need saving!? Maybe I don’t care because I don’t believe in all of your stupid make believe shit!”

“Matt get in the fucking car now. I’m driving.” Mello opens the door, slides in, then slams it shut. Matt follows but is a lot more careful with shutting the door, after all his car is his baby.

“You know I didn’t have to do all of this for you. I didn’t have to follow you all the way here to help you out with the Kira case and risk my life. I didn’t have to lose countless nights of sleep to run from cops and track down a guy who seemingly kills with magic. And I certainly don’t have to show up to you’re stupid fucking cult ceremonies!”

“Yeah well this is what you fucking signed up for Matt! Sure you didn’t have to but this is what you chose you wanted to do when you came here with me in the first place!”

“God I’m so fucking done with your shit.” Matt lights a cigarette and they don’t say anything for the rest of the drive. It’s just smoke, tension, and speeding.

When they get back to the hideout Mello just storms inside without even turning off the engine. Matt takes care of it himself and makes himself comfortable on the couch, opening up a new game on his DS. He’s finally starting to calm back down when he hears footsteps. Something small is thrown at him.

“Got this for you a while ago. Don’t know where the case is so don’t fucking ask me.” Mello’s voice sounds a lot calmer now, but also like he’s trying to make himself sound like he’s still holding some sort of grudge. He walks over to a nearby chair and pulls out his computer to start more work.

Matt looks down to see a game card for his DS. It’s the new platformer he’d mentioned wanting to try out recently. He picked it up and smiled at it.

“Aww Mells! You DO listen to the things I ramble about!” Matt runs over to Mello and tries to give him a kiss but Mello pulls away.

“Tch. Shut the fuck up before I take it back.”

Mello tries to mask his emotions with anger and pretend like he doesn’t feel anything else. But at the end of the day? He can’t stay mad at Matt. Even if he can’t get Matt to care about religion the same way he does. He just cares way too much about Matt.

Pt. 1 (Meeting Choso’s Brother)

Choso x Reader • No Curse AU • College Choso • fluff

Description- You decide to go home with Choso for spring break so you can finally meet his younger brother and celebrate Yuji’s birthday. After mostly getting over initial nerves on your first day, it’s time to celebrate Yuji’s 8th birthday.

8:11 A.M.

You wake up to what sounds like a yelling Yuji and the faint smell of bacon and something sweet. You try to sit up but are met with a groan from Choso and his arms tightening.

“Nooo don’t leave,” he whined softly into your neck.

“What time is it?”

“Dunno. Too early for you to leave though.”

You guys stay there, laying limp with your legs tangled until you hear a knock and a small voice. “Choso guess what! Wait, you have to open the door before you answer!”

Choso gives you a quick squeeze and groans before getting up, grabbing a shirt, throwing it on and opening the door. “What’s up kid?”

Yuji latches onto his leg, “It’s my birthday! I’m this many now!” He pulls away from Choso’s leg to hold up 8 fingers.

“That’s cool buddy. You’re getting so big. I remember when you were only 5 years old and it was your first day of school. You didn’t want to leave me and you wouldn’t let me put you down. Now you’re 8 and all independent and you’re doing fine with me at college,” Choso starts tearing up and goes to pick Yuji up.

“I love you buddy.”

“Love you too Choso! Can we play now? I tried asking Uncle Kuna but he said no because he’s busy.”

“Yeah, just give me a minute.” He hugs Yuji a little tighter then sets him down. Choso shuts the door and turns around to see you making your way out of the bed. He walks over to you, wraps his arms around your waist, and buries his face in your neck.

“Are you crying baby?” You run your hands through his hair.

“He’s just growing up so fast,” he lets out a sniffle.

There’s a loud knocking before Yuji’s voice yells, “Hurry up! You’re taking foreverrrr”

Choso pulls away and opens the door again. Yuji snatches his hand and pulls Choso away to his bedroom. You decide instead of following them to go to the kitchen to see if that’s where the good smell was coming from. You walk in the room to see Sukuna making pancakes on one pan and bacon in another.

He goes to poor one of the pancakes and it goes down the side of the pan, “Fuck fuck fuck. It’s too fuckn’ early for this shit.” He turns around to grab something to clean it up with then sees you, his eyes narrowing, “the fuck you lookn’ at?”

“Nothing. Just smelled something good so I walked in. You need help?”

“Nah I got it. What’s Choso up to?” Sukuna grabs a rag to clean up the spilled batter.

“Yuji woke him up to go play. I think they’re in Yuji’s room”

“I’m surprised the brat didn’t make you go with him too. Seems to take a liken’ to ya. Then again I have yet to meet someone he doesn’t like.”

“He’s really sweet. Choso said one of Yuji’s friends is gonna get dropped off here today, is he like that too?”

“Ha! Fuck no. I dunno how they even became friends in the first place. His name is Megumi and he’s pretty quiet. He’s really fuckn’ angsty for an 8 year old but he’s a good kid. Actually he should be here soon.”

“Opposites attract I guess. Even in friendships.” You take a seat at the kitchen table and scroll on your phone until you hear a knock on the door. Sukuna looks over at you, “Can you go get that for me? Hands are full.” You give him a nod before heading over to the door.

You open it to see a short boy with spikey black hair, an uninterested look on his face, and a gift bag that’s obviously birthday themed in one hand. You look around for an adult but don’t see one.

“I don’t think I know you. This is Yuji’s house right?” The boy asks.

“Yeah it is. I’m his brother's girlfriend. Did you come here alone?”

“My dad dropped me off outside and I came up here on my own.” You weren’t sure if this was normal or if you should be worried, but you decided to not comment on it any further.

“Come on in and I’ll bring Yuji to you,” you flash him a smile that he doesn’t return. Megumi steps inside and slips off his shoes as you go to the back of the apartment to fetch Yuji. You open his bedroom door to see him and Choso on the floor, a dinosaur toy in Choso’s hand and a spider man toy in Yuji’s.

Before you can tell him his friend is here he runs over to you, letting his toy fall to the floor. “Hi y/n! Do you wanna play with us? Oh guess what? It’s my birthday! I’m 8 now! That means I get presents, and cake, and Uncle Kuna is letting me choose what we eat, and everyone has to listen to me!” The whole time he’s saying all of this he’s bouncing in place and you can’t help but smile.

“Actually you have a friend over. I think Sukuna said his name is Megu-“

“Wait, Megumi is here! I knew Uncle Kuna would let him come over!” He yells before pushing past you to run to the kitchen. Choso walks over to you and pulls you into a hug, resting his head on your shoulder.

“I think Sukuna’s almost done with breakfast if you’re hungry,” you tell him.

“It’s so hard to stay energetic for Yuji. Normally I can do it just fine,” he pauses to let out a yawn, “but it’s 8:30 in the morning and I’m not used to being up and around this yearly. I wanna go back to bed,” Choso always gets clingy when he’s tired and right now was no exception.

“Foods ready!” Sukuna yells from the kitchen. You let out a groan as you two reluctantly pull away from each other.

Yuji and Megumi are already in the room lined up with empty plates in their hands. Yuji is restless as always as Sukuna helps them get their food, “I get 8 pancakes because I’m 8 years old now!”

“That makes zero sense. If you got a pancake for each year you’ve aged then Sukuna would have like 60 pancakes, and there’s clearly not enough for that.” Megumi says dryly

“The fuck did you just-” Sukuna takes a deep breath, clearly trying to stop himself from swearing out the young boy. You can’t help but snort at the interaction, which Sukuna hears and instantly turns around to shoot a nasty glare at you.

After everyone gets their food Yuji runs to the living room, holding his plate with one hand, and Megumi’s arm with the other. You and Choso decide to sit in the living room with them while Sukuna stays at the kitchen table claiming “it’s too early to be around the kids or their bull shit.”

11:47 A.M.

Sukuna walks into the living room where you’re all on the floor doing coloring sheets and Yuji is going on about spider man. He takes a seat on the couch behind you guys, legs spread, before speaking up.

“What do ya want for lunch yuji?”

“McDonalds!”

“Fuckn’ nasty,” he mumbled. “You good with that Megumi?”

Megumi doesn’t say anything, just shakes his head up and down while continuing to color.

“Come on! Let’s go! I wanna get a happy meal,” Yuji shouted as he stood up, grabbing Megumi’s arm and pulling him up with him. Megumi didn’t say anything, instead opting to let Yuji drag him to the door to get their shoes on. It looked as if he was used to this and just giving in to it.

Sukuna looks to you and Choso, “Just so you're prepared, one of you has to sit in the back with the brats.”

“I’ll do it. Plus they’ve both known me years longer so that’d probably be more comfortable,” Choso says.

As soon as the car comes into view Yuji runs to it waiting impatiently for Sukuna to unlock it. Yuji is sitting in the middle and Megumi is behind the driver's seat by the time you reach your door.

“McDonald’s, McDonald’s, McDonald’s, McDonald’s!” Yuji chants.

“Shut up or I’ll turn this car around,” Sukuna threatens.

“That’s not nice! It’s my birthday, you have to be nice. It’s in the rules,” Yuji said seriously.

When Sukuna finally pulls into the parking lot he looks back at Yuji. “No runnin’ through the parking lot. I don’t care if you’re excited, don’t need ya gettin’ hit by a car.”

“I’m gonna get a happy meal filled with toys! Megumi can I have your toy too if it’s a cool one?”

“No it’s mine! Also I don’t think you’ll be very full if all you get is toys, at the very least you have to eat the apple slices.”

Inside you give Choso your order before taking the kids over to the play room because Yuji insisted on that being the first thing they do. When the food gets brought to the table you chose you see that Sukuna ordered 2 Big Mac’s, a large fry, and a soda.

“Is that what he gets every time? How the hell does he stay so fit?” You ask Choso when Sukuna leaves hearing range.

“Pretty much. I guess he just works out a lot? But honestly it makes no sense to me either.”

1:23 P. M.

After McDonalds, the park was the next stop. Yuji and Megumi spent the first 10 minutes running around on their own but then decided that they needed Choso too. That left you with Sukuna only.

“Want one?” You look over to see Sukuna with a carton of cigarettes, holding one out to you.

“No thanks. I don’t really smoke.”

“More for me”

The smell of smoke fills your nostrils as Sukuna lights his first cigarette of the day.

“Love that brat to death but he’s fuckin’ a lot. Never met a kid that energetic and always in a good mood in my whole fucking life. Things seem to be goin’ good with you and Choso.”

“Yeah, he’s super sweet. He’ll come over and cook for me if I ever mention being tired after classes. If I ever need help with preparing for a test he’s right there. He’s basically taught himself the curriculum for all of my classes just so he can help me out if ever needed. Or when I’m sick he’ll even take off class if it’s a day he can to get me medicine and soup and make sure I’m okay throughout the day.”

“Hah! You’re just like him.”

“What do you mean?”

“He does that same thing you’re doin’ right now. Choso don’t shut the hell up ‘bout you. I ask how things are goin’ with his girl once and I get a whole ass monologue about how much you do for him and how much he loves you and blah blah blah.”

“Oh. Sorry.”

“Why the fuck you apologizin’?”

“I-I don’t know. Guess you just seem annoyed that you had to hear me ramble.” You feel like a piece of meat under his gaze. You start fidgeting with the hem of your shirt.

“Don’t go ‘round makin’ assumptions. Never said I was annoyed. Just thought it was funny. Ya know, I think you care way more about other’s opinions than ya should. If someone don’t like you for something you said then they don’t like you. It ain’t the end of the world just somethin’ you gotta accept.”

You didn’t expect something so… reassuring? To come from Sukuna’s mouth. You just sat in awkward silence after that. Well awkward for you, Sukuna seemed to be doing just fine with the quiet and his cigarettes.

7:38 P. M.

It’s after dinner now. Yuji and Megumi are out of breath on the floor after hours of running around and playing. Yuji’s body is half way under the coffee table. A kids cartoon Megumi had chosen was playing on the TV but somehow you and Choso ended up more invested in it then him. Choso had an arm wrapped around your waist and you had your head leaning against his body. Sukuna enters the room and looks down at the boys.

“Alright brats, time to get back up.”

“Can’t.” Megumi said.

“We’re dead.” Yuji added in a time that was both matter of fact and almost sounded disappointed, as if that didn’t add more questions.

“Fine. Guess I’m openin’ all your gifts.”

“Ahh! No! I’m not dead anymore! Do I get my cake too? Did you get me a pet tiger?”

“Yep. And he’s hungry. You know, now that I’m lookin’… you’re the perfect size for a tiger snack.”

“No I'm not! Tigers don’t want to eat me, they wanna be my friend!”

“You sure? This one’s pretty hungry. And mean.”

“I don’t wanna go over there anymore!”

“Don’t scare him. Yuji there’s no tiger, your uncle is just getting a kick out of you being scared,” Choso said.

“Whatever. Cake and presents are in the kitchen.”

On the Kitchen Counter there was a store bought chocolate cake that said “Happy Birthday Yuji” in piping on the top with 8 candles. The table had all of his birthday gifts on it and he excitedly started opening them.

Out of everything his favorite seemed to be the stuff tiger Choso got him, which he insisted on keeping in his arms to blow out his candles.

9:52 P. M.

At the end of the night you and Choso were laying on the living room floor, your head on one of his arms and his other arm around your waist. Yuji was on the couch in what has to be uncomfortable and possibly the weirdest position to fall asleep in with his tiger in his arms. Megumi was curled up next to him with a drawing from Yuji on his arm. The Lorax is playing on the TV and there was microwaved popcorn all over from a fight the four of you had.

Morning clean up will suck but at least Yuji had a good birthday, and that’s all that matters to you.

(This mostly focuses on Mello and his sexuality)

I think growing up in wammy’s house Mello really struggled with his sexuality, always telling himself he was straight but never being able to find an attraction to girls. By the time he finally does leave he starts realizing he might like boys too and that thought scares him.

When Mello joins the mafia he tells himself he’s just bi, because that has to be better than being gay, right? Despite being free and able to do whatever he wants I think he’d still feel guilty about it though and instead of trying to work through it he would take it out on Matt.

It would be something like a small, soft, funny moment and the two would be laughing over it. Mello would look over at Matt and think “I love him so much” and that would disgust him. All of the sudden Mello would change. He’d stop laughing and push Matt away and maybe yell at him which would lead Matt to saying “what the hell is wrong with you?” Which would only piss Mello off more, leading him to temporarily leave.

Again.

During times like these, he’d try get over it by hooking up with older men but it was never the same. I think he’d also try to force himself to enjoy hooking up with women but he could never do it. He’d try but he just wouldn’t like it and then that would just be another thing to feel guilty over.

Eventually he’d find some sort of way to track down Matt again and try to act like it never happened. It could be days later. Maybe weeks. There was one time Mello didn’t return for a whole 8 months. Mello isn’t the type to apologize though, so he’d just show up with a pack of cigarettes and maybe a new game, before handing them to Matt and making himself comfortable somewhere near the other boy.

He always loves winter because he gets to have you curled up on top of / against him with a hot chocolate and some cheesy movie playing. He gives the best hugs and at night there was no separating you two. He’d be right next to you while brushing your teeth before bed and changing into comfortable clothes to sleep in and as soon as you hit the mattress his arms are wrapped tightly around you. If you wake up first in the morning and try to move (even if it’s just to stretch or turn the other way) his arms will tighten and he’ll start whining into the top of your, saying “it’s too early” and “just give me a few more minutes” and “you’re not aloud to leave me”
