Introduction

Hello, I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m here for the c!Dream angst. So, you know there is going to be plenty of good old prison arc and mature content though I’ll try to be mindful of profanity if not in dialogue. Obviously, I’m a c!Dream sympathizer. And not that you need to know but I am also autistic, as well as an artist and an alliteration addict. ;) I was previously a poet before I very recently started writing fanfiction so I’m a sucker for flowery writing and analysis, even though I’m actually a transportation engineer.

and ye, joining in the 2026 does feel pretty wild at times. like traversing the lands of a once great empire that has since been crumbling away and meeting all these people that still live here, among the echoes of what once was. but it's pretty chill so far so i'm glad i joined

also, it'll definitely take me a Long Time to write the Dream Angst fic i planned for a multitude of personal reasons, but i can yap to you about the idea and future plot of it, if you don't mind ^^

That’s a good fandom analogy lol, certainly an empire with a lot of inner fighting. Which yeah on one hand it’s a lot more peaceful nowadays, but on the other hand it is certainly more desolate. It’s also interesting because I think while in the past people were probably more open to different points of view and speculation, now it seems like people can become set on how they’ve perceived the characters and unwilling to consider beyond that. This aided by fading memory, people joining late who didn’t watch all of the lore, repeated conversations newer people are aware of, and fanons so ingrained into the fandom the truth can get lost. Which I get, people like that version and don’t want anyone challenging what they have found they enjoy. And I say all that with absolutely no shade to anyone, just simply stating an observation I’ve had in general.

Though to be fair that isn’t strictly true. I feel like my opinion on things has actually shifted over the years instead of staying stuck, and I wouldn’t be surprised if others have too (actually know of people who it has also) which makes sense as we age and learn and grow. Views on life change especially in the younger years of life as we gain more experiences to form opinions about. And in this fandom, so many started out rather young, but now that it’s been 6ish years that means theoretically fans who were in elementary school (which I really hope isn’t super common because there is some seriously vulgar and dark things in the story told by 20 year olds…) are potentially in high school, people in middle school have likely finished high school or are close to it, people who were in high school are in college or already graduated college, and people who were in college (like me) have graduated or in grad school. And I can say even just those changes of academic levels makes a big difference on how you see things and how your life changes. Like for example going from high school to college is a big step in independence. Going from college to work force is a big change out of the school grind. My schedule is not the same it was 6 years ago and I certainly am not the same person I was. It’s really so wild to think about how we’ve all grown to be honest… I mean if I were like my friends I’d be having kids who then might grow up in the next 6 years to like Minecraft…

Hmm I’m not sure I mean part of why I leave their descriptions lacking in fics is to give people free rein to imagine their own version. And that’s something I think that is really cool and unique about the dsmp fandom because you have these often derpy skins that then people get to translate into something more real and that can take all types of forms.

Right?!

And I’m not saying that word alone is proof as it is just a cuss word that can be used in multiple ways that aren’t all just derogatory towards women (tho not to diminish anyone who has been hurt by it of course it can be seriously harmful and demeaning), but his frequency of use combined with other things certainly doesn’t help how he comes across. And I mean I’m not saying he is literally sexist or a misogynist as far as hating women or thinking them beneath him, but he certainly doesn’t go out of his way to treat women with respect to counter all of his misogynistic and disrespectful behavior/jokes. Even if they are suppose to be funny/lighthearted, it gets to a point when it starts to become uncomfortable for me watching his pov and hurtful for the women like Alyssa he is harming on the server.

Sorry for my delay in response, I wanted to find the signs you mentioned because I remembered them too but always like to verify and then that sent me down some rabbit holes…

But you are correct, Dream did put up those signs to make fun of Tommy and L’manberg, with Alyssa even joining in on the joke, which is another aspect that I think changes how the joke comes across because for Dream’s women bits in this stream that could come across wrong, Alyssa is participating in a lot of them rather than fighting back making it much more obviously a joke rather than making fun of her/women in general.

And that to me is a relevant point, because it becomes less of a joke when the person is getting hurt rather than laughing along. As you said, that’s more so bullying. And yeah, I didn’t even think about how much they are strangers vs her friends saying it (honestly this is kinda applicable to c and cc to be fair because Tommy wasn’t friends with Alyssa before) which is probably also why the attitude of similar jokes is different even beyond whether Alyssa is joining in (that and I think Tommy just drags things on too long and too far but that’s just my opinion). And boy does that change things because it’s one thing to make a potential offensive joke with a friend and a whole other to do so with a stranger.
