Rb if you wanna hear about the post-ancient-apocalypse fantasy magic world I created in my head where some people have wings through ancient contagious genetic editing programs but there's magic stuff from science and magic stuff from magic but they're different worlds.
Alright so to start off this world has a few different eras, the "modern" this era is very similarly advanced to ours, but has better social safety nets.
The next era was caused by two scientific advancements that acted as a catalyst,
1. The creation of large facilities at each of the planet's poles and certain other major locations (very sunny places) that electrify the atmosphere, giving free energy to all. They run off solar and wind.
2. A freak accident that caused such an amazing understanding of genetic editing that it's profitable and accessible to reliably get changes to your body through genetic engineering. Some people have glowing eyes permanently different hair color, some have bioluminesent tattoos or ones that are drawn in melanin, the adventurous will have an extra limb or two.
The third era was caused by two things. Some fucking idiot made a gene edit that was lethally non compatible with most of the population contagious. And the return of magic to the world. When most people don't know how to navigate a now fundamental part of life, systems are gonna crumble. These two issues tanked the population. After hundreds of years things got stable again don't worry.
