the fall of the word "romanticised" is so saddening, i hate that it's just become a buzzword. "idealising" is one that i haven't seen many antis use, however, so i can appreciate the variety. sigh.

no, "romanticising" does not mean that something's been made romantic and/or sexual. that's eroticising.

"romanticising" simply means to make something appear better or more appealing than it actually is, and it's a common writing technique. fiction is valued for it's escapism, after all, and escapism requires romanticisation. so, yes, the dark themes you're reading about in classical literature are romanticised — and most-likely eroticised, actually! claiming that these things aren't romanticised (and eroticised) is ignorant. claiming that "if [something] hurts someone, it's shamed and framed as harmful" in classical literature (modern literature, too, but these people tend to view classical literature as more "valid" than modern literature, probably because they like the aesthetic of classical literature) is just ignorant misinformation, needless generalisation, and intellectual dishonesty.

❝ One thing I notice nowadays is how fast people in general move on from fandom. And I’m not sure if that’s actually the case or if it’s just me. What I’m talking about is:

1. New media gets released. New popular show. Everybody’s talking about it. Every fanfic and fanart of that fandom gets loads of kudos and comments.

2. Time goes by. Not that long. Maybe a month. Maybe a couple of months. People stop talking about the show. Fanfic and fanart of that show get less kudos and comments. And if it’s been, say, a year—which is still not that long—fanfic and fanart about that show barely get any kudos and comments anymore. It’s like almost everybody has moved on to newer fandoms. And the circle continues. ❞

1) I feel like I'm not following the crowd and when I actually do something (with everybody else or no) I know that's at least 90% my choice

2) Fandom already has enough fan works for me to consume

3) I can support fans who made some media a long time ago and remind them about the fandom and their work
