It’s funny but incredibly telling how entitled/ignorant/insensitive some of these people are… idk if it’s an education gap or purposeful ignorance.
The really bewildering thing to me is that I remember when you needed to get up and pull a dictionary off the shelf, or visit a library to look up the facts you needed. Now people have all kinds of information literally at their fingertips and they can’t be bothered to use it.
When you know politics but no facts

this website would greatly benefit from learning about the plights of swana christians
the merits of a religion being used as a clapback against the testimonies of its victims is deeply fucked up and should be shut down whenever possible but i'm gonna be honest some of these posts i'm seeing are straight up opposed to the existence of a progressive notion of christianity in any context and i would like yo remind people that there are regions where christians do not fulfil the role of an oppressive force (and never have) and are facing genocide and unspeakable violence for their existence and i would just like people to remember that.
OPs definitely did not have these peoples in mind when writing these posts, i know, they weren't saying "and swana christians deserve what happens to them!" but that's exactly what's depressing. it's that swana christians aren't something they ever think about or consider.
to be clear i'm speaking as a swana christian who is alienated from my religion and i sincerely don't give a fuck about "redeeming" christianity or making people like jesus or whatever. i'm saying regardless what you think of the religion you cannot be applying the same political context of christianity as a tool of colonialism and to, say armenia. not because they're "truer" or "good" christians (again that's so irrelevant) but because it simply does not apply in this context.
if you want to be an ally of ethnic minorities you need to get comfortable with supporting swana christians and not just in the sense of "fine, i'll overlook their christianity because of their status as an oppressed minority" but also be in support of their reclamation of christianity as something they love and are proud of in light of their oppressors maintaining that their christianity makes them dirty and that it should be wiped out. not all instances of people upholding their christianity is proselytizing. it is an act of resistance in some regions.
are western christians going to be annoying as fuck and use these instances to justify their own rhetoric? absolutely. should swana christians be thrown under the bus to avoid that? no. regardless of whether you stand by them or not, western christians are going to uphold their supremacy anyway, but you'll have silenced a group that you should include in your activism.
