pussy got me beeping and honking
I hate the not like other girls trope as much as the rest of you, but I feel like there are certain people who use the annoyingness of that trope to justify their demonization of fictional women who have the audacity to be gender non-conforming. Like seriously, just because a female character doesnât like wearing makeup and heels doesnât immediately mean that she hates all women who do. It just means that she, personally, donât like wearing makeup and heels. Like there are already so few female characters who arenât hyperfeminine, so itâs extremely frustrating when the few who do exist are attacked for being ânot like other girlsâ simply because they donât personally want to dress and look a certain way. And I also feel like the line between that and full-on transphobia against transmasc and afab non-binary people is very thin.

friendly reminder that nicki minaj's anti-vax bullshit is an attempt to distract from the fact that the woman her husband sexually assaulted is suing her for trying to bribe her into recanting
what the fuck
I grew up culturally christian and went to plenty of church events, but never saw anything like this, what kind of dystopian bullshit
I was nodding the whole time
Thereâs a special flavor of âProtestants from the USA who are the same folks who would buy a picture of Ronald Reagan and White Jesus high fivingâ
And this sort of thing is pretty normal in those groups
Yeah honestly this seems pretty on par for stuff Iâve seen among that weird specific brand of American Protestantism
Yeah can confirm
One of the churches I went too as a child legit refused to acknowledge that the 31st of October even existed. I found out when one of the ladies mentioned that there was only one day left in the month and I corrected her, saying âNo thereâs the 31st itâs Halloween!â and the Sunday School teacher freaked out and told me that good Christians didnât talk about or celebrate Halloween because it was the Devilâs birthday.Â
These were grown ass adult women who were so enamored in their faith that they REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE AN ENTIRE DAY OF THE MONTH and just acted like it didnât exist. Like fuck to this day I wonder what they would do if they had kids?? Keep them home?? What if they had a doctors appointment and they had to say âNo sorry I donât believe in the 31stâ??? Do they just stay home with the windows and doors locked and the curtains drawn and pray all day????Â
I had cousins who were part of the same church(my mother wasnât christian and didnât raise us as christian and my mom only sent me there with them because they would give us a free breakfast and we were poor) so while my siblings and I got to go out trick or treating my cousins stayed home with my aunt and handed out little christian comic booklets about how Halloween is evil and if you donât love god you will burn in hell. They gave these books to CHILDREN.
Rural American Christianity is fucking balls to the walls insane and I cannot understand why anyone buys into it, let alone adults, and being raised around them while not actually being christian was a fucking trip.
iâm sorry they what
This is what happens when you let violent religious extremists start a country and then refuse to call them violent religious extremists
Barnes and Nobles is gonna start serving food and alcohol.
Everybodyâs cracking jokes about how itâs a desperate attempt to stay relevant in the age of Amazon.
But you know what? Props to them. This is exactly what Blockbuster didnât do. At no point was Blockbuster like âHey, movie rentals arenât the lucrative enterprise they once were. Perhaps itâs time we become known for our cheesy garlic bread.â
Okay butâŚif someone wants to take me on a date to a Barnes and noble and get me dinner and a drink and then let me peruse the stacks like Iâm not saying no. A sandwich, a beer, and 2-5 books on various topics I hope Iâll someday read about? Good night.
The Swedish equivalent of Blockbuster is now best known for its candy, snacks and sodas.
This is El Ateneo Grand Splendid, an old theatre turned bookstore in Buenos Aires:
The stage itself was turned into a cafe:
You canât even begin to comprehend the massive amounts of money this place makes, despite the fact that they turned the theatre boxes into reading nooks like this:
Iâve literally spent days holed up in there reading books for free while also consuming massive amounts of coffee and pastries.

Three Vibes.
Literally tried to think of the most recent time Iâd drawn a crow to figure out if this was true and
The crow from my Frog Habitat Bingo sheet is 100% C
If you are someone who likes to watch a lot of cop shows, I want you to ask yourself a few questions.
Why do all TV cops, even the good ones, hate Internal Affairs? Isnât the job of Internal Affairs to root out the âbad copsâ? Isnât their job to make sure police follow the rules? Why is that presented as inherently evil or antagonistic?Â
Why do all TV cops, even the good ones, hate defense attorneys? Isnât the defense attorneyâs job to protect the rights of all citizens? Isnât it their job to make sure police follow the law? Isnât it their job to make sure everyone is treated fairly under the system? Why is that presented as inherently evil or antagonistic?Â
Why do all TV cops, even the good ones, get upset when citizens invoke their constitutional rights? Donât those rights exist to ensure all citizens are treated fairly? Donât they exist to ensure innocent people are not wrongfully incriminated? Why are citizens who invoke their rights presented as dishonest, untrustworthy, or antagonistic?Â
To be clear, Iâve watched Brooklyn 99 and enjoyed it. I was watching Elementary the other day. But even when I watch shows I like, I make a mental note every time a cop lies, breaks the law, subverts someoneâs basic rights, or just generally acts like an asshole to the people the are meant to serve and protect.Â
How often are they called out on their behavior? How often are they punished for it? How often is it reinforced as correct by the narrative?
When I tell people to be critical of the media they consume that is what I mean. Not simply calling it terrible and moving on, but actually engaging thoughtfully, asking questions, and forming conclusions about what that media is trying to say to you. Then decide whether you want to keep listening, or if it will be better for you in the long run to move on.
Why do only the guilty people ever invoke their right to an attorney? I would invoke my right to an attorney.
Why are protections of innocent peopleâs rights only ever framed as âslowing the police downâ and preventing them from really catching the bad guy? Why is it that every time an officer has an instinct to break the rules, theyâre narratively vindicated?
Itâs the same question as âbut WHY do her superpowers require her to show so much skin?â A writer put that there.
Victor refusing to make the Monster a wife because he was worried theyâd breed is such a cop out. Like, youâre cobbling together body parts from charnel houses. You can just not give her any ovaries. You can just spay her like a cat. Why are you this dumb Victor. Youâre a doctor.
the implication that victor spend weeks giving the monster a working dick is also extremely weird
Something to remember is that Victor didnât just give the monster a working dick! He wanted his creation to be made of the best parts of men-itâs why the monster is made up of so many different pieces rather than one fresh corpse, why heâs so large, and why Victor is disappointed that he isnât beautiful.
So, what does this mean? It means that Victor looked at the dicks of various corpses, testing not only to make sure they work, but also to find what he considered to be the best corpse dick. Does this mean the monster was extremely hung? Or did Victor simply pick the dick that seemed most attractive to him? Did he memorize the appearance of the dicks, or did he line them up to compare?
Weâll never know, because the original story never touches on the subject, and itâs one of the few flaws in Mary Shelleyâs work.
I know I started this conversation but Iâm so sorry I did
Considering we know who Mary Shelley was spending time around I guarantee this was a CONVERSATION that she actively and adamantly refused to actually include in the text
Well, there is ONE adaptation which includes this very discussion.

I feel itâs my duty to make sure everyone sees this because the still images donât do the comedic timing of that pause justice.
Gene Wilder was a comedic master.
A rare example of a movie with absolutely NO poor performances, and every single member of the cast firing on all cylinders.
Thats just how Mel rolls. All his movies are great.
I think itâs a very girl thing to drink out of a mug like if you drink out of a mug youâre a girl in that moment and thatâs okay you can stop being a girl once you stop, if you want to not be a girl thatâs fine but you have to use your hands or lick it from the pot like an animal
