1.) Men are obviously going to have higher combat fatalities because they aren’t the gender that is more actively barred from combat. Women not being barred from combat is a newer concept, and I’m not really inclined to pity men as a whole here because it’s not women that have sought to keep themselves from the front lines. It’s dudes. How classism and race affects which dudes end up on the front lines is another topic entirely that is worth discussing.
2.) I mean, it’s also because women are more likely to actively seek custody. When men seek custody they are more likely to win even with evidence of being abusers because “at least the man wants to be involved.” If anything, men that want to be involved in their child’s lives have an easier time than women by courtesy of the bar having been lowered for them by their male peers.
3.) Also it’s worth point out that while men are more likely to succeed in suicide, women are more likely to attempt it. This is dude to the suicide methods often taken by these two methods. This doesn’t negate the seriousness of suicide in men, but mental illness in men is going to be helped by dismantling toxic concepts of masculinity, not some dudebro on the internet going “lmao gotcha feminists,” and if anything trying to pretend this somehow erases male privilege is not helpful. At all.
4.) The higher college graduation rates is a newer thing, but from the studies that I went through in my diversity and sociology courses it sounds like a major contributing factor is the differences in how women and men are socialized. Which makes sense, traits that women are expected to emulate just do better in educational environments. But that also goes back to toxic masculinity as the core problem, not male privilege. And that’s a problem that’s going to be helped more by men addressing the problem because it’s largely men that socialize other men. Y’all gotta stop with the “boys will be boys” bullshit when boys act up, basically. Boys need to be taught better self-discipline if they’re going to catch back up with girls in educational environments.
5.) Workplace deaths is a result of the same misogyny that leads to the gender gap in combat deaths. Men shouldn’t cry that male privilege doesn’t exist because of these gaps when they’re the ones that enforced these gaps to begin with. This one in particular strikes a nerve because I work a job in which fatalities are possible. Go figure, working around power equipment and pallets of heavy shit can cause injuries and fatalities. And my nb ass cannot do my fucking job around a dude that does not know me without him running up and trying to be chivalrous. Like no, back off and let me do the job that I am paid and trained to do, the job that you are not. And yeah, some of those dudes have consequently gotten hurt. Like it’s that fucking ingrained into dudes. And yeah, it’s fucked up that’s ingrained into dudes, but again it’s not women that made up those stupid rules to begin with. It was dudes.
The other ones I’m not too familiar with. I can offer speculation, but that’s about it. But I’m also getting the impression that this infographic just cherry-picked whatever will be convenient for their agenda. It doesn’t mention higher rates of sexual assault for women. It doesn’t mention wage and education gaps on a global scale (which would render that college graduation gap kind of irrelevant). It doesn’t which gender is more likely to be married as a child. It doesn’t mention medical fatalities, especially on a global scale.
Like this is a bad post that’s insulting all around. People need to actually take a minute to think about why this shit affects men the way it does if they’re going to actually help men. Otherwise they’re just kinda being boring little edgelords that are contributing absolutely nothing to the problems they claim to actually care about.
