(There is only so much time you can spend doing housework or looking for work and I’ve replayed and replayed the games I’ve already got so many times)

It’s funny you should ask. Folks often ask me how the hell I have thousands of games in my Steam library, and the answer is, well, a substantial chunk of them are free to play. Many of them are very, very bad, but there are exceptions – I’ve placed links to the 120 or so that I’d actually recommend to other people under the cut.

A lot of these games are quite short (i.e., average playing time in the five to fifteen minute range), but they're free, so really that's good value for your money! Note: owing to the length of this list, I will not be including descriptions or content warnings – be sure to check the writeups and reviews.

I don't wanna get involved in the mess and I'm not active on twit so I don't know the people behind this event and I'll try to keep it short.

The drama from the last few days was over the rules of the Caitvi Kinktober event that were restrictive and looked more like a legal document with lots of stipulations for what is allowed and even had a template for how certain things should be written. The themes were rather tame and yet some of them also conflicted with their own rules. They did this instead of saying 'XYZ is banned cause we don't like it, so if you do write XYZ we won't promote it', and had an overall puritan/fandom policing/corporate vibe that just doesn't match with an event that's supposed to celebrate kink, and for that they got criticized.

Unfortunately it breached containment so non-Arcane/Caitvi people started clowning on them. I wish I could say they were listening to actual criticism before that happened about the rules, but from what I've heard the account was blocking a lot of Caitvi writers who write kink (I believe they even blocked people who write kink without interactions/reason given).

I read the rules a few weeks ago and decided the vibes were off, especially with the creatively limiting scene requirements where you would break the rules if you came up with a more elegant way of including consent. I do feel bad for the people behind it for being clowned on en masse cause I don't think anyone deserves that (and also that it's unhelpful and inflammatory with one side (fandom outsiders) saying 'this is why F/F fic isn't popular', and the people defending the rules going 'sorry you freaks can't disguise rape kink behind CNC'). But I don't understand how they didn't realize ahead of time or during the creation of the event that they weren't the right people to run it, or realized their version would work better as a private event ran on a discord server rather than a public event.

It's a free, no sign-up, no ads fitness resource created by professionals who view this as activism (fitness should be accessible to everyone), and it's very thoughtful and thorough.

Features I really like:

- all instructions for workout routines are diagrammed on single pages with a clean, easy to read layout

- there's 30 or 60 day programs you can follow if you, like me, don't know what to do. they take you through a rotation of workouts so you're working different muscle groups on different day for a specific purpose

- there's so much variety and there's a filter so you can find the level and your goals and type of workout you wanna do

- you don't need any equipment

- some of the programs are RPGs or adventure stories! How's that for motivation. There's also badges and achievements or something but I haven't looked that closely at how that works yet

- they're nerds. they name workouts after D&D classes. There's a Lannistrr workout, a batcave workout, a witcher workout

- I've only scratched the surface

straw animals design (etsy store) plushies and accessories, including some knitted patterns. beginner friendly!

green frog crochet (website store). mostly doll patterns, very pretty and totally worth the time and effort. they also sell full kits for some of the patterns, that include all supplies except for crochet hooks and fiberfill. also, youtube channel with tutorials.

moonlight crochet (etsy store). mostly doll patterns, lots of clothes you can adapt to dolls of similar sizes

yan schenkel (website store for individual patterns) has several books out that i really love. it took a bit of digging to figure out if this online store selling the pdf versions is legit and i found that the publisher sells directly through them. there are three pattern books (1, 2, 3) with animal plushies.

natura crochet (website store) has colorful animal and holiday themed patterns, plus two books of aquatic themed patterns. same publisher/seller as above.

hanichan (website store) has a distinct and minimalist style that i think is very beginner friendly. there are also useful general tutorials for amigurumi.

aquariwool crochet (etsy store). a lot of colorful and fun animal patterns. i haven't bought anything from them yet but i have a few saved and honestly just looking through the patterns makes me happy.

make me roar (website store). one of the more unique styles i've seen out there, especially these.

jo handmade design (etsy store). both plushies and more realistic toys, the patterns are very well written and illustrated.

The next size up is only $5 a month and you get 200 listings, and the topn you're at $15 gives you 1,000 product listings and a whole ass customizable store front website. That's cheaper than anything else on the market rn.

Current downsides that will not remain downsides: they're only available in the USA but they're planning on expanding into Canada soon. And they've been mostly focused on growing their seller side, so not a lot of buyers know about them yet. But!!! That why I tell everyone I can! Shop with them! List your products with them! Use a platform that has a dedicated mission for community good and is there to support sustainable creator markets, not create endless bloated corporate growth!!!!

Many of the visible mending hacks one sees are designed to be aesthetic and not structural, as OP points out, but this technique is different:

1) you’ll notice that the mended area is larger than the actual damage. All of the stitched area indicates where additional fabric is added for strength.

2) the pattern of visible stitching is PRACTICAL in this work. The reason pants wear down along the inseam is that the fabric is constantly being rubbed against the other leg. Here, the stitching is what’s rubbing against itself, and the embroidery will fail first, meaning the fabric underneath will last longer.

3) this technique is very, very simple once you draw your grid, and there are plenty of places online that sell water soluble graph paper that you can sew into as a guide and then wash out.

Back and forth and up and down straight stitches, in a color that matches the current color of the area you are mending.

(As my mom always says: if you're torn between two colors that are close, pick the darker one.)

Not as pretty as sashiko, but flatter and quicker.

People have been mending the crotch of pants since the moment we had pants. And we had pants for a few centuries before we ever got the ludicrous idea to try and walk in them.
