They want to build this in the zoo parking lot and act like its no big deal

1) there is no meaningful way to tell if a person is cis-het just from looking at them.

2) even if they are cis-het now, it doesn’t mean they won’t be some day. There’s no need to make someone’s potential coming out more contentious by being openly hostile at a community event.

3) if they aren’t causing trouble, then having supportive cis-hets at pride is exactly the end-goal of events like Pride… and if they lack some etiquette, the other point of Pride is to expose the world to queer identities and culture anyway. I would rather they learn from seeing their neighbors than just from watching Drag Race or Heated Rivalry.

Resist the push for generative AI. Make art.

the past few days my mind has been consumed by an ongoing story about Bricks and Minifigs, a second hand LEGO store, stealing $200,000 worth of vintage Star Wars LEGO sets from an old man, and using several police departments to illegally obstruct any investigation into it. Police harassment escalated so badly Reckless Ben, the youtuber investigating, was jailed a few times and is now in Mexico. (wikipedia page if you don't want to watch a video)

this story has police corruption across states. healthcare costs. mormons. it feels like a modern day tintin adventure lampooning america. or an episode of south park

Loving yourself when the world wants to hate you is the greatest power the world has ever seen. I have so many feelings about this film. For personal context, before I went to the '98 Burning Man festival, one of the things I'd read from a couple different journalists was that "everybody" runs around naked. Which, fine by me, I'd already spent a lot of time in clothing-optional spaces, I'm not fanatic about it but it's nice.

So I got there early and set up a public shade structure on one of Black Rock City's main roads and spent most of each afternoon just watching the crowds go by. I don't remember seeing more than one actually naked person the whole week. I think a topless woman passed by my intersection maybe every half an hour, sometimes once an hour. So why in the hell were people, normally pretty smart and observant writers, coming away with the impression that everybody was naked?

Then I remembered an unrelated passage from Joel Garreau's great book about the history of the outer-ring suburbs, Edge City. Mall developers told him flat-out that they tried to keep the crowds in their malls less than 5% black. Not because they themselves were racist, but because they had determined, experimentally, that if more than 5% of the people in the mall are black, the median white shopper will wrongly describe the mall as at least half black, as mostly black. And not a few of them would describe it, at 6% black, as a mall where "only black people go." Why?

Because, emotionally, they were still upset over the last one when the next one came into view.
