I went back and re-listened to Fuyu’s voice lines and it’s always so striking how Aggressive he was in the beginning. Frightening! and imposing! and he’s 7 feet tall, so you know he’s towering over absolutely anyone no matter who the player is!

I don’t know How Elijah would respond to this other than being upset at being threatened. He’s unbelievably terrified, but they 100% have to butt heads at the beginning. Thinking about the timeline, Elijah is probably stressed out of his mind by the time he meets Fuyu. He’s failed a sealing spell at his job at least once (with the way he fears looking incompetent and incapable in front of others, it’s such a blow by itself bc he needs to impress these people the most), and he’s about halfway? through helping Aki and Haru. He’s running out of time, there’s probably only a matter of months left in the year, and while he is SURE he can survive putting himself through everything he’s taken on, the wear is showing.

Fuyu’s accusations that Elijah is being insubordinate for not snapping his fingers and freeing him is probably SO maddening. At the start Fuyu won’t even entertain that that’s Not How It Works. The threats, specifically, just. I want to see Elijah angry more, and I think this is the spot. If Fuyu threatens his life, there’s little holding Elijah’s composure together to say “Do it, Then. Let some other magia come and help you, however long that takes.”

I kind of want it to be bad enough that Aki and Haru worry that they’ve sent Elijah into genuine danger. For the drama.

But the thing is that while Fuyu is Pissing him the hell off… Lij is not going to abandon him that quickly. He’s too deep in it now to leave. Fuyu doesn’t understand that his magic only works if he knows what he’s trying to do (or undo) and for that, he has to understand the situation. Which is FANTASTIC when he’s gotten himself into a situation where NO ONE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED!

To help one of the Kitsune, it’s clear that Elijah has to help all of them. And really does want to! It’s not just about “proving that he can” anymore. He cares. But really, everything is putting him through the wringer and he might have to learn his own lesson about asking for help, or knowing his limits at least.

Washington Post is paywalling the article but it looks like Taylor Farms — a consumer bagged salad brand that also supplies produce to grocers and fast food chains like Taco Bell, Walmart, McDonald's, Chipotle, Burger King, KFC, and Meijer —may be at least one of the sources of the current cyclosporiasis outbreak.
