AITA for using my coping strategy even though it inconveniences my Roomates?
I (22 M) and my 4 roomates (21-24 F) all share an apartment with 1 kitchen, 5 rooms and 2 bathrooms. We tend to get along but we argue over the bathrooms more than weād like
They tend to take a long time to get ready in the mornings, and I tend to take a long time at night because of my coping mechanism.
Basically once or twice a week, I take a few edibles, turn off all the lights, and shower while on the floor in complete darkness, rolling around in soap. I call this my Olm time after the blind cave salamander. I basically roll around in all the soap and just pretend Iām a little cave dwelling salamander while high as shit, and then rinse off and crawl out of the shower and head to my room.
Itās like meditation. I go to a completely different state mentally. This is the only thing that has significantly helped me with stress, while allowing me to incorporate all of my self care duties into my routine. Becoming one with the Olm is my only option.
My roomates donāt know about Olm time but they have realized I take a while in the shower some nights, and they have tried to argue by saying that everyone needs to get ready for bed too. Iāve told them that they take a really long time in the mornings, and I often have to brush my teeth in the kitchen sink because the bathrooms are basically locked from around 6:30-8:45 every day because of how long they take.
Basically theyāre all pretty frustrated with me and Iām pretty frustrated with them. That self care time is pretty much what keeps me going through really hard days, and they donāt seem to get that, even when they tell me how important their getting ready time is for them in the mornings. I donāt know if Iām being an asshole or if Iām genuinely standing up for myself here. AITA?
AITA?

finding out this post only has just over 8k notes has been a devastating blow to my ego. i reference this constantly and nobody ever knows what im talking about. i go āoh, you know, the olm time post. where someone sits in their bathtub off a few edibles and pretends theyāre an olm, the blind cave salamander.ā as if every single person on the internet has also read this post. this is a classic to me. a heritage post, even. my entire worldview has been shattered.

When I was training to be a battered womenās advocate, my supervisor said something that really blew my mind:
āYou can always assume one thingĀ about your clients; and that is that they are doing their best. Always assume everyone is doing their best. And if theyāre having a day where their best just isnāt that great, or their best doesnāt look like your best, you have to be okay with that.ā
Any now whenever anyone in my life, either a friend or a client, frustrates me, disappoints me, or pisses me off, I just tell myself They are doing their best. Their best isnāt that great today, but I have days where my best isnāt that great either.Ā
Op Iād like to thank you for sharing this. Ever since the first time Iāve read it Iāve held it in my mind and it really has helped me to be kinder to others and to myself.

I'm in the middle of some calibrations.
Garrus Vakarian from Mass Effect, made as a Subscriber Suggestion pick for May 2026!
I donāt know if this is an obvious take or a hot take, but I think people need to start re-framing feminism as the fight for body autonomy as opposed to whatever this second wave revival gender essentialist bullshit we have going on right now. Once you reframe it in this way, itās easier to understand intersectionality and why cis women are not the only people who need feminism. The lack of body autonomy effects cis women, trans people, intersex people, disabled people, poc, homeless people, sex workers, etc. and your feminism needs to include and prioritise all of these groups of people (which will include men btw) because feminism is about autonomy, not about establishing a matriarchy. Body autonomy is the biggest threat to the patriarchy, both with reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and even the right to not be drafted into military services. Once body autonomy is established for everyone, the patriarchy no longer has a leg to stand on.
And body autonomy does include things that you donāt personally like either. I was prompted to write this post after a series of bad takes from progressives, but one of them was re-hashing the Sabrina Carpenter album cover drama with āI donāt think itās conservative of me to think that the album cover is a bad look when weāve seen images of women being abused in this wayā because I do actually think youāve failed to understand feminism by projecting your morals onto a woman who was consensually expressing her own autonomy just because she expressed it in a way that you didnāt like or that made you uncomfortable.
Body autonomy also means unhealthy choices. Body autonomy also means regret rates. Body autonomy also means freedom of sexuality. Body autonomy also means mutilation. If you believe body autonomy has limitations and exceptions, then your feminism is most likely surface level.
TERFs are some of the biggest opponents to body autonomy, and if you find yourself thinking āoh people can do whatever they want with their bodies as long as it doesnāt harm them or make others uncomfortableā then you are far more susceptible to TERF propaganda than you think.
ooooh the radfems are BIG mad about this one
Authors, agents, publishers: every part of the industry is seeing the strain of five years of escalating anti-LGBTQ censorship.
if you'd like to show support, here are some upcoming queer books:
When Life Gives You Corpses is a brilliant YA about a cursed praying mantis who falls for a young witch. Yield Under Great Persuasion is a raunchy, but surprisingly sweet story of two men repairing their relationship. Fabulous Bodies is a horror story about a queer rockstar rising from the dead.
This is Where the Future Bleeds is a fantasy set in a vividly imagined land, where two women (who happen to kiss) are the key to healing the broken sky. You're No Better is a story about a teen struggling in the shadow of his murderous parent. Oil on Canvas is about a woman who finds disturbing paintings in the home of her dead mother.
and then here's a list of 26 queer books by Black authors set to publish this year, and a 10 upcoming books by trans authors. if you want to fight back against queer censorship, use your wallet! or (if that's not an option) you can contact your local library and ask them to stock a copy.
Another wip uhhhh
Longtime readers may be aware of how much I relish an excuse to bully a company, so I'm sharing the wealth;
Clothing company Patagonia is currently sueing drag queen Pattie Gonia for "irreparableā harm to their brand.
To be clear; Pattie named herself after the region in South America.
So Pattie is asking people to politely ask Patagonia to drop the lawsuit.
I'm extending the invitation to all of you, because sueing a drag queen for 'infringement' in the current political cultural landscape is vile. Especially a drag queen who has raised millions of dollars for non-profits, uses her platform to raise awareness for climate activism, and fully aligns with Patagonia's apparent climate-conscious mission statement.
They're claiming they're sueing for $1. They're actually asking her to stop using her name, and pay over $1 million in legal fees. They're straight up harassing her.
In contrast, drag queen Jan Sport has a Jansport bag line. It's that easy to just... work with a queen.
Anyway. Be respectful(ish), but feel free to be annoying on Patagnoia's socials, asking them to 'DROP THE LAWSUIT'
I think they have a twitter and tiktok too!
This is being discussed heavily on Bluesky, such as here.
Patagonia is suing specifically for trademark infringement, and they're suing for the sum of $1. If they don't sue, then that means they could lose the trademark. They aren't trying to "silence" them or prevent them from using the name, they're specifically protecting their company trademark. They'd have to sue *anyone* who was using such an obvious knockoff of their logo; in this case it happens to be a drag queen.
you'll have to forgive me for not weeping for a billion dollar company's trademark being violated
Go nuts. The point is that this isn't a company trying to dogpile on a drag queen, it's a company following a standard legal practice to protect its trademark. Disney does it all the time.
... yes, and I also hate Disney? I don't understand what you think you're selling me on here
If you get a soda out of a vending machine and it has a Coca-Cola label but it's actually a knockoff made with ditchwater, that's obviously okay because Coca-Cola is a huge corporation and it's thus fine for someone to violate their trademark.
You can hate Patagonia all you want, but the lawsuit is about anodyne trademark law, not specifically that a drag queen is involved.
and what part of Miss Gonia's schtick is doing the harm equivalent of tricking someone into drinking ditchwater exactly?
...the trademark part.
right, okay, I forgot that she's singlehandedly putting Patagonia out of business by using a silly joke name
if Patagonia loses their trademark, which they would if they didn't sue and win (again for one dollar), there would be no assurance against people putting a Patagonia label on amy dogshit
well I hope Amy Dogshit enjoys wearing the label I think she'll look very nice
Oh my fucking god yāall bootlickers are driving me crazy.
Iām a law student specializing in Intellectual Property, which includes Copyright and Trademark. Iāve studied these subjects and the law is clear that everything yāall said about Patagonia ālosing the trademarkā if they donāt sue Ms. Pattie is absolute bullshit.
Trademarks are only lost if they are abandoned by the user or if the product made by the company becomes so ubiquitous, everyday, and common that people start calling all types of that product by the trademark name. This is called genericide, because the trademark has become so generic, it is no longer an indicator of one singular source. Think Band-Aid or Thermos; we use those terms to refer to the generic products theyāre associated with. We call pretty much all sticky bandages Band-Aids and all containers used to keep things warm in Thermoses.
What Patagonia is doing is actually closer to suing for trademark infringement based on tarnishment, which means the infringer is using the trademark name in a way that makes the company look bad or associates the company with things like drugs or pornography. Queen Pattie Gonia is someone who raises awareness for climate and environmental activism. Nothing about Miss Goniaās use of the name tarnishes Patagoniaās brand.
The only possible argument the company has is that Miss Goniaās queer identity could be seen as not āadult-friendlyā but that very quickly slides into homophobic and moralistic territory that will absolutely be shot down by the court based on First Amendment rights. People are allowed to use ānot safe for work names,ā based on caselaw that states that ālabels that are disparaging or morally offensiveā are a violation of free speech because itās peopleās choice to say and use those names. For example, an all-Asian band applied for the trademark name āThe Chinksā because they were taking the racially disparaging name and reclaiming it. The Trademark Office attempted to refuse to grant the bandās trademark, and when the band sued, the Supreme Court sided with the band.
That got off on a little bit of a tangent, but the long and short of it is this: Patagonia has absolutely no basis for a trademark name. Any IP lawyer would say the same. The reason Patagonia is getting away with a frivolous suit like this is because they know their target is a member of a vulnerable minority. Miss Gonia is 100% correct that they are trying to bully her because they know she doesnāt have the money to withstand a years-long expensive lawsuit.
Itās because of idiotic bootlickers who kiss companiesā asses like this that big corporations can get away with hurting independent creators. Patagonia does not have any chance at winning, but they know that just by filing and announcing their lawsuit against Miss Gonia, they are putting pressure on her to give up. If this lawsuit goes on, even if it doesnāt make it to court and just goes to a judge for a quick summary judgment, Miss Gonia would still have to pay for a lawyer to defend her and lawyers cost more money than the average person has. Miss Gonia would win, but because Patagonia set the damages for $1, even if she did win, sheād still end up in debt because in America, the typical rule is that each party pays for the cost of their own attorneyās fees. The only time the opposing side would pay your lawyerās fees is if you have a contract with them that says so, and thatās usually only used in contracts between businesses or high profile individuals.
What Patagonia is doing is capitalizing on societyās hatred for queer people and anyone resembling a trans woman. Miss Gonia is a drag queen, not trans as far as Iām aware (though please do correct me if Iām wrong) but itās not like a big company cares to differentiate; theyāre just mad that a queer person is using their name in a way they donāt like. Patagonia knows that this particular population has been facing harsh discrimination in society currently. By siding with them, people are actively harming the queer community. Donāt pretend to hide behind trademark law to cover up your prejudices.

Rough Draft of a Genesis Amended Chapter
Garrus can tell by the look on his bondmateās face that she isnāt too happy with being given the placeholder title of āSpectreā by the Council.
Thereās just a bit of a tightness to her lips as she stands at attention, feigning a sense of accomplishment and acceptance. He knows her and can see that sheās uncomfortable with such a heavy position being handed to her. She probably doesnāt believe she deserves itāwhich is preposterousābut thatās just how Jane is.
He hates that she seems so uncomfortable with the congratulations that encompass her, from the claps sounding from the overlooks in the Chambers to her own human squadmates. Her gaze catching his and her expression asking for some solid ground and a chance to catch her breath hurts even worse.
Sheās never been good at praise when she thought she didnāt deserve it. For him, sheās done enough to be worthy of standing here and seeing herself as one step closer to becoming a fully authorized Spectre.
