sometimes when I get mad online I have remind myself that the coolest and most reasonable friend I have doesnāt know who dril is and asked me to explain what the acronym āMCUā stands for, because she spends most of her free time watching documentaries about industrial disasters with her girlfriend and going to quarries to collect rocks together. a better world is possible and itās out thereĀ right now
I reblogged this last month, tagged it, and said āmight as well see if it works.ā I used this video as a reference to find all the forms that i needed (which is A LOT, especially if youāre a dependent) and sent them through the mail, not really allowing myself to hope.
dude.
$2,714 of medical debt from my top surgery - gone. im shaking this was such a weight on me for 2 years and it fucking worked. what the fuck.
This is huge. Sharing for my US friendos.
Hospitals like to hide these policies under a lot of successive links in obscure places, so if you don't see anything right away, keep looking! Get friends to help! Make it a scavenger hunt. A game where you're assassins sent to slit capitalism's throat
Literally obsessed with this image.
mid-way pride month check-in
just saw someone comment under a videoclip of the sylvia rivera interview where she insists on the modern (circa 2001) pride movement being a capitalist smokescreen, a āstraight gayā movement that worships the almighty dollar, that:
and this person is likely quite young but this really really really captures the limited imagination of capitalist neoliberal indoctrination around freedom and liberation. radical queerness treated as a paintjob over a prison as opposed to the bulldozer that tears the prison down. we have to dream for so much more and endure the pain of dreaming.
#the queer owned small business third space community events venue posts a help wanted thing at least once a month #wherein they ask for someone to have availability ALL DAY six days a week. to work. a grand total of 15-20 hours during said week #the position is actually three jobs in a trenchcoat sounds extremely stressful and pays minimum wage #they also don't pay most of their artists because it's supposed to somehow be mutual aid to let people perform there #the coffee is ten dollars and their pastries are from Sysco
Liberals stress about what to buy because they accept that the only power they have is as consumers (which, under capitalism, is by default a subordinate position)

I wish all the āreligion is inherently badā people who go on to describe issues exclusive to Christianity would understand that their idea of Christianity being analogous to all religion is a very glaring sign that they are still steeped in the Christian hegemony they seem to reject so vehemently
Oh my goddddd if I see one more asshole with authoritarianism brain worms confidently declaring that we perform mitzvot to āget into heavenā or ānot make God madā just because āa book said soā

tom nook is NOT a landlord!!! he is a construction worker! he SELLS you a WHOLE HOUSE! He is not CHARGING YOU however many bells a month to live there! You PURCHASE a HOME that he BUILDS FOR YOU and then you PAY HIM FOR HIS SERVICE. He charges no interest he sets no time limit it is a relationship built on trust. the only penalty you get for not paying off your home is that he won't build more home until you pay him for the first one. A guy that builds you a house wherever you want him to and then charges you for the cost of construction is not a landlord you own the fucking home
He is, however, in the mafia

a MARSH is a wetland with other forms of vegetation
#A LITTLE LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK
a MANGAL is a swamp whose soil concentrates high amounts of salt and very low amounts of oxygen, supporting little else than mangrove trees
a PEATLAND is a wetland whose soil concentrates decaying organic matter, becoming peat
Oh yeah baby, keep coming at me with watery environmental states
As a former librarian I'm actually required to remind you that many libraries that subscribe to Libby are opted into a program that lets you subscribe and access magazines for free with no wait
And that this is actually a really fun, low cost way to not only access news and larger cultural magazines, but also to get free patterns for many different crafts that you can screenshot if need be and that lower the financial barriers to entry for trying new things
From my experience working in both academic and public libraries, many libraries are use it or lose it funding-- I have to say this because a lot of patrons feel guilty for how much they use the library and how often they're using it funny enough, but the worst thing you can do for libraries is not try out new features and not use what's already given to you as much as possible.
The numbers that come as a result of your patronage are how most libraries justify their continued existence in times of financial hardship, which sucks but, go check out some magazines on Libby!

Hundreds of small rural towns and several whole regions around the country - in addition to those in the South - became newly dependent on an industry that itself is dependent on the continuation of conditions under which ācriminalsā and criminality can be continually produced (āsocially constructedā). Norton offers an interesting case study of a rural prison archipelago that developed in upstate New York based on arguments by local officials that buildings constructed for the 1980 Winter Olympics would serve the prison industry in the future. New York State built thirty-nine new state prisons between 1982 and 2000, all of them in rural counties. But it was the forty-fifth state senate district in the far northern region of the state that built more than any other district, and by the turn of the twenty-first century, there were fourteen prisons located in the district, more than twice any other. Norton shows that a short-term opportunistic argument to win the Olympic bid depended on a vision of a future archipelago of prisons and, indeed, a steady supply of prisoners to fill them. [ā¦]
ā
[A]t the height of the US prison-building boom in the 1990s, a prison opened in rural America every fifteen days. John Eason studies this phenomenon in detail, documenting the proliferation of prison building in rural America - specifically in poor, rural, southern towns - for the past fifty years. During this time the total number of prison facilities tripled [ā¦].
Moreover, Eason found that from 1980 to 2006, nearly 28 percent of all rural prisons were built in just three southern states, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. [ā¦] Hurling also offered a nuanced, regional examination of southern rural prison town archipelagoes. She followed the development of four such archipelagoes [ā¦] [including] in the West Texas Plains (one out of every five new rural prisons in the 1990s opened in Texas, the state with by far the largest number of new prisons) [ā¦].
Anne Bonds, citing examples from the Pacific Northwest, has documented arguments by local community leaders that prison building is the answer to poverty and resultant decline in social service provision needs. [ā¦] Williams, for example, studied the development of the thirteen-prison archipelago in Florence County, Colorado, starting back in 1871. He shows that state and local governments depended on the lobbying āmythā that prisons would bring economic development in order to find communities willing to accept new prisons, even though the profits of those prisons have accrued to industries outside of the local community. [ā¦]
ā
It is not only prisonersā labor that is increasingly commodified by work programs on the inside; their bodies and lives themselves can be bought and sold as well. With prisoners, in addition to laboring for abhorrently low wages on the inside of prisons, the profits of which accrue to the state and private entities, many local and regional economies depend on the income generated from the āpurchaseā of incarcerated bodies from other jurisdictions to continue filling carceral sites that were built during the 1980s and 1990s construction boom.Ā

Cartoon Network posting Steven Universe promos for Pride Month will never stop boiling my fucking blood.
Cartoon Network cancelled the show. They viciously and intentionally fucked over Rebecca Sugar, Ian Jones-Quartey, and the entire rest of the crew. It is documented in the SU art books and in multiple statements from Rebecca Sugar that pushing for the Garnet wedding is what caused the show to get cancelled. The crew had to FIGHT to get any episodes past the wedding. There was supposed to be so much more.
I recognize that the social media team is not the same as the executives making decisions, but holy fucking hell is it a special kind of infuriating. The network won't support the show while it airs, they won't support the crew in their attempts to add queer representation, but the second they can use the cancelled show for corporate Pride promos? Better believe they'll try to take credit for being progressive and queer-friendly, never mind how many queer artists and workers the company fucked over along the way.

Luigi⦠thunder.Ā
This is still the most confusing post this blog has ever made
what have i done
the idea that this might have been made in 2012 is fucking terrifying because it sounds like itās supposed to be a parody of Thunder by Imagine Dragons
The longer this post goes the more questions it raises.
the only plausible explanation is that imagine dragonās thunder is a parody of luigi thunder
What the fuck
I do have an answer to this, by the way! Back in 2010, the musical production SPIDERMAN: Turn Off The Dark, was having demos done for their music. As we all definitely know, the musicalās songs were preformed by Bono and the Edge, and U2⦠but another band also recorded demos for the musical back then.
Imagine Dragons.
However, after recording Demons, and likely a few other songs (and also after coming up with the tune for Radioactive, though they claim itās not related to the musical) they decided that the songs were ātoo goodā to be just for a musical, and thus began re-working them for a non-Spiderman related album, which would become Night Visions, Imagine Dragonās first release.
WHILE I HAVE NO PROOF OF THIS, it is⦠utterly likely that Thunder is one of the songs originally intended for Turn Off The Dark, due to the fact that Electro is one of the villains in that musical, they just didnāt release it in Night Visions.
This would of course mean that whoever made this parody back in 2012 has some intimate familiarity with either Turn Off The Dark or Imagine Dragons, which. Isnāt 100% unlikely, I suppose.
