bro my mom and I just do NOT like each other...π« which tbh I'm usually pretty accepting of, but we're both acutely aware of the fact that in 2 weeks we're going on 6 day trip to the East coast, where we will apparently be SHARING A ROOM at the air bnb!!
(was not my idea and she knew I'd be opposed but she didn't ask me before telling her siblings that was fine. I think space is going to be pretty tight, so maybe it's unavoidable, but. π Also maybe examine why none of your closest family members WANT to room with you???)
And I'm pretty sure it will be the longest continuous amount of time we have spent together since I moved out in 2020.
She's like, "you didn't offer to help your brother with [quick, one-person task] π’" and I'm like, "yeah, he didn't seem to be struggling? And he didn't ask for help?" (we were in the same room and he was talking to me about other stuff while he did it) And she's like, "that's the point, we shouldn't HAVE to ask."
Like???? No? Talk to me like an adult?? It's cool if I can intuit your needs, but it's not a failing on my part if I don't!
And then she's like, "don't bother asking Elise for help, she only helps her theater friends." And I'm like, "wdym 'don't bother'? I would obviously help you if you asked." And she repeated, "we shouldn't have to ask, that's the point!!!" Which doesn't really make sense.
Like the insult of having to ask for help at all is so large that actually doing the task without help doesn't make a meaningful difference? That makes no sense.
(Also she likes to use "we", meaning her and my brother, instead of "I". i.e. "We worry about you when you don't answer our texts!", "you never help us", etc. Even though usually he doesn't give a shit. I think she just thinks it makes her whining more justifiable.)
And like, yeah, maybe I don't proactively volunteer to help her personally very often, but that's for the extremely clear reason that she is miserable to be around! She is usually criticizing my appearance or implying I'm a bad person!!
Also making these sweeping generalizations when in the past I have helped her with a lot? But I'm not being as "helpful" as she wants right now, so none of that exists anymore, apparently. I'm fundamentally unhelpful as a person.
At one point i was like, "okay, i just won't tell you about my theater projects anymore." And she was like, "that's not it! It's just that if you spent even a FRACTION of your time and energy on your family as on your theater stuff..." blah blah blah. I was like, "yeah but if you don't know then you don't have to worry about it!" which i don't think she even listened to well enough to think it wasn't clever. (I DID refrain from telling her that any amount is a fraction of an existing amount, due to how fractions work.)
Anyway I'm a little concerned we're gonna fight in front of all my cousins in the first few days i meet them π
