Ben is shown layering vests or a sweatshirt which I think is a nice nod to book Ben who wears an oversize sweatshirt. I can’t explain why but he looks like he would instinctively know how to build a damn based on his clothing alone, so I once again applaud Janie Bryant

Mike has the least amount of outfit changes and does the most amount of outfit repeating in the film. I think it makes sense for his character to have a pretty basic wardrobe, however I wish we got to see more of Mike and his personality in the film because he’s such an important character. </3

Bill has a very simple, classic style. I know a lot has been said about Bill’s jorts but I actually love that this was done. Bill’s parents canonically neglect him after Georgie’s death so it makes sense that he would have to cut some jeans to make shorts for himself and he also repeats outfits quite a bit; his parents clearly aren’t taking him shopping for new clothes.

Richie’s style is my personal favorite. iirc Finn mentioned that Richie’s parents are neglectful in some way, but I’ve always wondered where that came from. We see Richie’s mom in the bar mitzfah deleted scene, and Richie has a pretty diverse wardrobe compared to some of the other losers. He’s also the only one who wears acid wash denim, something that was more trendy in the time and therefore new, compared to Bill who’s wearing presumably old clothing. We know that Richie is canonically into pop culture - movies, music, video games, comedy - so here are some people/characters I think might’ve inspired Richie’s style:

Bev is subtly shown to be ~not like the other girls~

even in the background the other girls/women are mostly shown in light blue, pink, and yellow trendy 80’s style clothing

Bev meanwhile sticks mostly to earth tones

Eddie and Stan stick to mainly light colors:

with the exception of the final fight with Pennywise, where Eddie and Stan are both shown in red shirts and jeans - the only time either character is shown wearing jeans and the only time Stan has his shirt untucked
