Fourth place is not a bad result, fourth place is not a bad result, fourth place is not a bad result. No matter how many times Robert repeats it, it doesn’t sound true. Nicola is flapping around him, as she is wont to do, and he’s really trying to keep a lid on his anger as he heads for his driver’s room, “Nicola!” he snaps, “Can you, please, leave me alone for like, ten minutes?” “I don’t want you destroying anything,” “I won’t. Promise.”  He smiles sweetly at her and watches her walk away. As soon as he opens the door he hurls his helmet at the wall with a yell. Aaron only just ducks out of the way in time, “Woah! What the fuck?”

Aaron's had it. He needs to get out of here before he truly snaps. Fists clenched around his plate, he makes the excuse that he'll take it up to his room. Instead when he gets to the landing, he goes to Robert's room instantly.

He doesn't knock just goes straight in, and hates the sight of his fiance looking so defeated as he sits on the edge of his bed, his head hanging low.

"I need to get out of here," Robert says. "Before I do or say something that I'm gonna regret."

Aaron nods, swallows a lump in his throat. "Where to?"

"Anywhere," Robert says. "Anywhere as far away from here as possible."

should be working on a very specific project, but instead i've started something so incredibly self indulgent that it's a little embarrassing. have a snippet

If anyone asked (and Alex asked a lot), then Aaron barely thought about Robert Sugden. The idea was ridiculous, since he hasn't laid eyes on the man in two decades and the way things ended between them should have put Aaron well off. But if Aaron closes his eyes, he can still see his face so clearly. Dishevelled blond hair, green eyes that sparkle in the sunlight, tanned and freckled skin. Aaron has forgotten his voice, or at least can't tell if the voice he remembers is what he actually sounded like, but he can still remember the words he said. I've never met anyone like you before. I wish every day could be like this. Why can't things stay as they are? Why are you doing this to me?

am trying to get back into the swing of writing so here’s a wee snippet that might not turn into anything but we shall see

“Endings are my favourite part,” Robert admitted, embarrassment tinging his cheeks as he spoke. It was cute, really - not that Aaron would ever admit it out loud, or God forbid, to Robert himself.

“Why?” Aaron found himself asking, before he could really even think about it.

Robert shrugged, thumbing at the pages of the book. “I like knowing that people get to live happily ever after, I suppose. That the story ends with them getting their happy ending,” he paused, for a second, looking at Aaron. “Do you think we get to have a happy ending?”

Aaron tried to ignore the way tears burned at the corners of his eyes, everything he knew and couldn’t tell Robert clawing at his throat, the truth desperate to escape.

“I think we do,” Aaron managed, his voice hoarse from the effort of holding back his tears. He wished it was the truth.

aaron: robert, robert, robert, robert, robert

"We need to talk to you about your husband," the DI had explained after they'd introduced themselves and flashed their badges. Then she'd told them, because Robert's still the next of kin and they have to inform him, that Kev had been found dead in his stupid cake van a few hours ago. She hadn't called it stupid. Aaron added that part.
