i found the tonal shift between the charity storyline and the sam/lydia - laurel/ross storyline so jarring. idk i think it would've worked better if there were more storyline, otherwise it could've been a special episode. i don't think we needed to cut between charity reporting a sexual assault and lydia and kim glaring at sam next to a big bowl of peas.

I'm watching a random 1988 episode and I think Jack and Barbara met at Jackie/Kathy's wedding?? Jackie and Kathy are on their honeymoon and Caroline (Kathy's mum) wants to hear from Barbara about the Jack/Barbara situation, so it seems like she's friends with Barbara as well. The idea that the Sugdens didn't know about John until 2024 is a little ridiculous given Kathy was around until 2001 and Eric was on Christmas card terms with Barbara. Though I guess Caroline and Barbara could have fallen out of touch some time before John was born or Jack knew about him the whole time and never said anything (though I don't think the show wants us to think that).

The other thing is imagine meeting John Jacob Sugden at his son, John Jacob Merrick's wedding, getting pregnant by him and naming your child John Sugden. I hope Barbara appears on screen in this episode because I really need to see if she's as crazy as modern Emmerdale makes her seem.
