When I was a teenager and still on Neopets I was part of a pretty big Star Trek guild and eventually became part of its council, with the solemn duty of creating weekly polls. Well one day I created the poll "Which would win in a fight? Borg Cube or Death Star?". Naturally, since this was a Star Trek guild, the answer was overwhelmingly "Borg Cube", but someone did have the rationality to point out we were biased.

So I look up a pretty prominent Star Wars guild and message one of their council and ask them to poll the same question and get back to me in a week. They do, and naturally the fuckin geeks said "Death Star".

So then I look up a Stargate guild and messaged the lead council member, saying the same thing, and they get back to me almost immediately saying that the Death Star would immediately one-shot a Borg Cube but they would never be able to do it again to another Cube. And I took that wisdom back to my guild and we were mollified, and for one moment the Nerd World was peaceful.

I think if the defenders of AI were just honest on god I wouldn't be so annoyed.

It's about profit. It's about maximizing profit. Not accessibility, not empowerment of creators, not improved work-life balance of developers, not relief of human suffering, not making fans happy. Profit.

It's about reducing labor costs and running skeleton crews and producing products faster and meeting quarterly goals and pleasing investors.

AI is a product like any other! It preys on the consumer's insecurity and lack of resources, promising instant gratification and discouraging you from thinking too hard about the origin or side effects. That's literally all it is. Like why are we bullshitting so hard about it. Pure diarrhea blasting on the feed in the name of defending capitalism. What happened to us?

As someone who's been a lifelong nerd for behind-the-scenes early development/concept art shit, its fucking wild to me they thought "oh no don't worry, we're just using AI to build the foundation for the art. The finished product won't be AI" would go over well

Like no that's...that's not how that works. You can't use AI as a fundamental building block for concept art and then say the art in the game isn't made with AI. That's like saying "Don't worry, I traced somebody else's drawing but colored it in myself, so really if you think about it the finished product is an original piece by me :)"

The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.

Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.

So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.

Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

the Nanotyrannus debate is finally put to rest. Paleohistology reaserchers have confirmed that the animals hotly debated on whether they were dealing with a new species or if it's a juvenile of Tyrannosaurus Rex through the growth rings of their bones that the specimens in question indeed passed to adulthood/sexual maturity, as well as things like fewer tail vertibre and skull nerve patterns.

Tyrannosaurus and Nanotyrannus were not in direct competition for food having ecological rolls known as niche partitioning. Wolves and coyotes for example. Nanotyrannus was more agile and limber which suggest it was a pursuit predator rather than an ambush predator like T. Rex.

It looks like Nanotyrannus is finally here to stay. Yippie!!
